6.3 Rollups

• Released every 4 months • Able to patch against specific Rollups • Include more robust enhancements:

– Incremental DB additions – Incremental XML additions – Property / Parameter controlled enhanced functionality

• Improved upgrade experience – Due to more focus on incremental controls – if current – Working on reducing downtime for Rollups – if current

Page 14: Product Development Update - otmsig.com · Product Development Update . Jim Mooney . Vice President, Product Development . August 11, 2014 . Oracle Confidential – Internal . 2014

6.3 Rollups

• While we will have the ability to patch back: – Backports of bugs will still be on an exception basis – No backports of enhancements

• Same advice from Development: Stay Current! – No official line on Rollup age, but similar to current

approach we will not be able to patch back too many Rollups – they age!

– Likely no longer than 1 year (match other Oracle products)

• This will likely be the same approach we will follow with 6.4 Rollups and beyond.

Multiple Equipment Improvements Description

22

• Planning – Shipment Building

• Execution – Fleet Assignment

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Multiple equipment can be called different things. They can be called "multiple equipment", "combination equipment", or simply referred to as doubles (as selected in the red box above) or triples (blue box above) etc.. Individually, they can be referred to as "pups" and a set of pups is also a fairly common label. Whatever they may be called, they come in many varieties, to include multiple trailers, (5 or more in some cases) linked together by "dollies”; sometimes called "con-gear".Functionality was added to model multiple equipment from two main perspectives. The first is a planning perspective and the second is an execution perspective. These will be discussed in greater detail in subsequent slides. Note that OTM does not explicitly model dollies or con-gear. They are assumed to be available. To the extent that the shipment requires a dolly, it is to be manually managed as a reference or flex field.

Multiple Equipment Improvements Setup and Process

Ensure the GEG is Included on the itinerary leg equipment

Run execution Actions as needed

Specify Header CEG information

Specify child CEG detail

Configure combination equipment group (CEG)

Process Ground Schedule Setup and Processing

Plan shipment Using CEG

Configure rating as required

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Here are the steps to use this functionality. First, configure the combination equipment group. In order to do this, you must first add header detail to the new combination equipment group. Then, specify child equipment group detail. Once done, that combination equipment group must be included as part of the itinerary leg’s equipment group profile such that it can be considered for planning. If required, rating can be configured to rate for combination equipment. Next, plan the shipment using the combination equipment group. Once done the actions can be run.

Oracle 12c: Stores Data in Both Formats Simultaneously

Optimizing Transaction and Query Performance Row Format Databases versus Column Format Databases

Row

Column

ORDER

SALES

SALES

• Transactions run faster on row format – Example: insert or query a sales order – Fast processing of few rows, many columns

• Analytics run faster on column format – Example: report on sales totals by region – Fast accessing of few columns, many rows

REGIO

N

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Row format is optimized for OLTP workloads. OLTP operations tend to access only a few rows but touch all of the columns.A row format allows quick access to all of the columns in a record since all the datafor a given record are kept together in-memory and on-storage. Since all data for a row is kepttogether, much of the row data will be brought into the CPU with a single memory reference. Row format is also much more efficient for row updates and inserts. Analytical workloads access few columns but scan the entire data set. They also typically require some sort of aggregation. A columnar format allows for much faster data retrieval when only a few columns in a table are selected because all the data for a column is kepttogether in-memory and a single memory access will load many column values into the CPU.It also lends itself to faster filtering and aggregation, making it the most optimized format for analytics. Up until now you have been force to pick just one format and suffer the tradeoff of either sub-optimal OLTP or sub-optimal Analytics.
