UDP – Ultra Deep Protect – UIAA water repellentThe system of in-depth treatment of yarn that increases the water resistance. It prevents the penetration of dirt into a rope and increases its abrasion resistance. Water resistance level measured in accordance within the UIAA methodic is 1.5% – 3.0%.Technology UDP – a highly sophisticated system of in-depth treatment of yarn by water repellent additive. UDP secures the permanent rope treatment on the base of every single filament. The main aim of this treatment is to lower absorbability of a rope and to increase abrasion resistance and dirt resistance. This unique technology enables us to make the rope treatments with lower energetic requirements than commercially used technologies. Water resistance level measured in accordance within the UIAA methodic is between 1.5% – 3.0%. Its range depends on the rope diameter.
EDP – Eco Deep ProtectIt is PFC – free in-depth treatment of yarn to increase water resistance. It improves the abrasion resistance and protects the rope from dirt.
EDP technology – a highly sophisticated system of in-depth treatment of yarn by PFC – free water repellent additive. EDP enables in-depth permanent rope treatment on the base of every single filament without usage of fluorocarbon additives. It is an ecologically gentle technology which enables the rope treatment by PFC free additives with less energy spending than commercially used technologies. The ropes treated with EDP show better abrasion and dirt resistance then the ropes without any treatment.

ITT – Infra Thermo TreatmentThe Infra Thermo Treatment is a stabilisation of sensitive structural balance that gives our ropes a perfect handling.Final thermo stabilisation of each rope adjusts the core and the sheath in one homogeneous balanced unit. A very specific wave length of the thermo radiation gives “life” to our ropes. Due to ITT all of our ropes provide the comfort of a very smooth and good handling.
Middle MarkingColoured middle marking of a rope for better orientation while rappelling.
There is a 6 cm long ink marking in the middle of a rope. This ink has no influence on the rope lifespan, safety or manipulation in the marked (coloured) area.
ATTENTION! If there is a need to shorten the rope on the end, it must be shortened on both ends so that the middle mark is in the middle of the rope. If this instruction is not followed, the fatal consequences can occur.
CTC – Continual Tension ControlThe CTC secures a guaranty of the most important parameters like the number of falls, impact force, sheath slippage, knotability in full length of the rope.
CTC is a unique Gilmonte know-how that ensures a high degree of tension management of every single yarn. This technology provides a continual control of parameters stability in time.

Symbols
Half ropes – for climbing when it is a must to use two ropes. Half rope technique uses “left and right“ rope. These ropes are quidded separately through different belaying points. Separate parallel guidance of ropes reduces the risk of abrasion or damage by falling stones in unstable terrain on the rocks. Half ropes provide more variety in expert climbing. Suitable for ice climbing or high mountains.
Single ropes – for climbing with one rope. The most popular and basic way of rope usage during climbing. Suitable for outdoor – rocks and indoor walls.

SYM
BOLS
The number corresponding to the European norm. This norm specifies safety requirements and testing methods for dynamic ropes used in mountaineering including climbing. The UIAA norm is the base for EN892.
A registered mark of the international climbing federation UIAA (International Mountaineering and Climbing federation). This symbol can be used only for the products that fulfill the strictest safety requirements specified by UIAA.
CE – a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). The number behind the mark CE (1015) indicates the competent authorised laboratory. The products marked with these symbols fulfil the relevant safety regulations.
Twin ropes – they should be used in pair and the ropes should be of equal length and diameter. They have common belaying progression points. Ideal for climbing safe climbing in high mountains.

Technical tips
Make sure that your rope is stored in a dry and dark place (temperature between 15 – 25°C, relative humidity approx. 65%). The rope must be dry and clean. Use a fine brush for textile to clean the rope from small mechanic dirt. The rope can be hand washed in a lukewarm water approx. 30°C (86°F). Washing in a washing machine is possible only in a protection cover. Only gentle washing program without centrifugation is advised. Do not use any chemical washing powder! The fine natural soap is allowed in a case of heavy dirt. Place the rope on a flat mat. Let the wet rope dry in a ventilated room without a heat source and direct sunlight.Chemical materials have destructive effect on ropes. Do not use the ropes that were affected by chemicals! We advise you to use Gilmonte rope bag for the rope transportation and storage. Check periodically the ropes depreciation and sheath cleanness. Check regularly the structure of the rope in full length.
The right care for Gilmonte ropes
The lifespan of a rope depends on:• correct choice of an appropriate rope• intensity of usage• correct care
39
TEC
HN
ICA
L TI
PS
An intensity and the way of use significantly effect a lifespan of the rope. Note that there are many factors which influence it. Below estimated time parameters are based on a general knowledge and use.
• intensive use: everyday use (sport climbing, bouldering, mountains leaders) less than 1 year
• regular use: weekend use (yearlong) 1 – 2 years• regular use: weekend use (seasonal) 2 – 3 years• occasional use: recreationally 1× per month 3 – 5 years• sporadic use: 5 – 7 years• unused rope: max. 10 years
Intensity of use
Control regularly also other equipment which is used together with the rope. Its depreciation or damage could make a mechanical sheath damage on the rope. Avoid the contact of the rope with sharp edges.Fine dirt has ability to penetrate into the rope structure and make invisible progressive damage in the structure of the rope. Humidity of the rope decreases significantly its dynamic characteristics, total strength and strength in the knot.Change the ends when you bind. The rope is less loaded and it is used steady. This way you help to balance the internal tension caused by external powers. While abseiling it is necessary to make a knot on each strand separately. It prevents the rope twisting. After abseiling it is recommended to pull a full length of the rope (also not used part of the rope) through the carbine. It will preserve the rope from twisting and the rope is evenly used.

• the rope is affected by chemical dirt• the rope was affected by a very hard fall• you notice the rope deformation, thickening or breaking

When to discard the rope
Age definition of the Gilmonte dynamic rope: if you do not have a production label or a rope diary, it is possible to find out the age of the rope based on a colored yarn inside of the rope. You compare this yarn with the table on www.gilmonte.eu (check the color and the year of production).
Age definition of the Gilmonte static rope: if you do not have a production label, it is possible to find out the year of production based on identification tape inside of the rope. Stated information on the tape: year of production, producer, rope type (A or B), a rope material (PAD, PAD/PES, PAD/Aramid). This information is printed on every 30 cm of the tape.
To find out the age of the rope based on the identification information inside of the rope – it is necessary to take a sample from the rope end. In this case the end of the rope must be

thermally treated again to unite the core together with the sheath. Do not forget to change the information on the rope length (to specify the actual real length). If the rope has middle marking, both ends must be shortened equally to have middle mark correctly positioned. It is important to update all information about real length of the rope on its ends and in the diary.
Because the technological process of the static rope production does not include wet treatment, we advise to wash the rope before the first use. This way you gain even better traits:
Slipperiness decrease – The fabric softener used during production will be reduced. It gives better handling without slippery feeling.
Compactness – the material of the rope is shrinked. It improves the lifespan of the rope and abrasion resistance.
The Static ropes certified according to EN 1891 are subject of the regular yearly control. Such control can be done by an expert. All reports about control (registration sheet) are inseparable part of the static rope.
