A serif type -based logo solution. Seemed to look “dated”.

Attempting to introduce the a bag element to the logo. Results look more like clothing labels/brands than an eco campaign.

An uppercase, sans serif solution. “Grocery-store” like with it’s bold type.

Attemps to introduce a natural shape to the logo with stylized sugarcane vector.

Our Mission To raise awareness among grocers and shoppers alike about the eco-friendly alternative material called bagasse.

“It’s the Co-op's responsibility to keep up to date on the latest sustainable options.” -Julie Loke, Co-op Manager

“Absolutely. That’s why we push towards the more sustainable alternatives.” -Robert Kerr, Savemart Manager in response to awareness of the environmental consequences of plastic and paper bags.

What is Bagasse?

of sugar cane after the pulp has been drained completely of its juices.

Why should you switch?• Paper and plastic bags has been and are continually becoming more of a burden on environmental wellness. This negative impact is by the deforestation that occurs with the manufacturing of paper bags, and the toxic breakdown of plastic bags.

• Bagasse is an eco-friendly choice alternative, for bagasse is completely compostable and biodegradeable. Unlike plastic, bagasse is an all natural material that is toxic free.

• The cost of bagasse is currently comparable with wood-pulp paper, but is predicted to become cheaper if with greater demand and supply.

• Bagasse is currently being used for biofuel and disposable tableware, but a good portion of bagasse is ultimately disposed due to the low demands and this wasteful practice only contributes to pollution.

The Future of Bagasse paper bags. The sucessive positive impact on the environment will encourage more grocers

to provide bagasse bags, and thus increases supply and demand. As the price of bagasse

falls towards the price range of plastic bags, grocers will shift the ratio of bagasse to plastic

grocers will ultimately switch exclusively to bagasse bags.

WHY SHOULD YOU SWITCH?Paper and Plastic bags take a big toll on the environment. These days, shoppers seek to be as ecologically responsible as possible. They are looking for a solution, and that solution is bags made from bagasse.

Bagasse fiber can easily be molded into a light weight, oil and waterproof paper, perfect for grocery bags. Processing requires less water and fewer chemicals to process the fiber than wood-pulp. Since bagasse is actually a by-product of the sugar industry, no further resources will be wasted cultivating a crop already in use.

OUR MISSIONWe seek to raise awareness among grocers and shoppers alike about the eco friendly alternative material named bagasse.

BAGASSE?Pronouned as Buh-Gawse. Bagasse is the coarse fiber by-product of sugar cane after the pulp has been drained completely of its juices.

BAGASSE VS PAPER

THE FUTUREWith the spread of knowledge on the superior benefits of bagasse, the eradication of paper and plastic is eminent. The sucessive positive impact on the environment will encourage more grocers to provide bagasse bags. Shoppers care increasingly more about the

environment and it affects their choice of supermarket. Their demand for a better solution will ultimately fuel the switch. Providing baggase bags is a smart move and a step toward being environmentally responsible and helping customers to act accordingly.

weight, oil and waterproof paper, and is able to meet or even exceed the necessary dura-bility and usability needs of a regular grocery store bag. Furthermore, sugarcane pulp requires less water and fewer chemicals to process than the standard wood pulp paper production process. Finally, no additional energy or resources are needed to harvest the bagasse pulp as it is readily available as a byproduct of sugarcane harvesting.

-The increasing familiarity with the detrimental consequences of plastic and paper is already provoking interest in more eco-friendly habits, products and materials, which undoutbly includes the use of bagasse made alternativesto paper. We hope that increased consumer
