So it’s been a great year in many ways for many members. Your Committee has worked diligently to make sure the Club and the meetings run smoothly and, apart from a few sticky moments ,this has been the case. However, in the midst of our joyous celebrations, let us not forget the sad losses of members we have had. So we need to keep the families of Jackson, Lukeman, Green, Dubock, McIntosh and Morcom in our thoughts. So I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and healthy New Year in 2016. PRESIDENT’S REPORT
As we come to celebrate the Festive Season we can look back on another happy and successful year in our Probus Club. Members enjoyed the many activities that were offered and they kept up the aim of Probus to join together in fun and friendship. A few highlights were our Anzac Rememberance Day which brought us memories of both World Wars with some sad and poignant moments of rememberance for those lost and for those who returned. The Entertainers social was a great success as a night of fun for all those who attended. A most enjoyable Fashion Parade was held last month and a good number of women and a few intrepid men were shown some lovely clothes from a local fashion retailer. The Garden Group enjoyed some beautiful gardens and the Getaways and day trippers travelled far and wide to experience parts of Victoria and New South Wales.

VALE HUGH McINTOSH 17/8/35 – 24/11/15
Hugh joined Probus in 2003. He lived most of his younger days in Richmond with his parents.
He met Diane at Moonee Ponds Town Hall. They married in 1964 and moved to East Doncaster where they raised two children, Rebecca and Andrew. Hugh was a Draftsman with Cyclone for many years and then he went into Sales with Smorgons.
He was a Pennant Golfer with Greenacres Golf Club and also was an A Grade Squash player. Hugh had two grandchildren, Isabelle and Alexander, whom he adored.
VALE GRAHAM THOMAS
MORCOM 20/12/36 – 25/11/15
Graham and Jenny were married for 47 years and had their daughter Helen, son Philip and two grandchildren Kate & Luke.
Over the years Graham was a member of golf and bowing clubs and as well as playing, was also involved in other club activities. He was a loyal AFL “Swans” supporter, and stayed with them after they went to Sydney. Graham joined our Club in 2007 to be a member alongside Jenny who joined in 2003.
Graham’s early career was with the Army Service where he was known as “Bluey”. He served in Malaysia, Vietnam and many locations in Australia. He made many parachute jumps during his time, which impresses his grandchildren immensely.
Graham kept contact with his army comrades through membership of the ADAA (Air Dispatch Association of Australia), ATA (Army Transport Association and his Vietnam unit 87tpt, some of who attended his funeral.
After finishing his second enlistment with the army, he took on a government driving job and chauffeured many famous people during his 27 years with Comcar.
Graham had a great sense of humour and shared jokes at many happy outings he and Jenny attended with Probus members.

Our Fashion Parade was a great success with 68 ladies attending, which included 8 of our very own models. They all did a great job and who knows, there may be an opening in the Fashion world for them. Our thanks to everyone who helped on the day with food, etc. The surplus funds have been donated to the Craft Group.

*********************************************************** The Olde English Pub was called the Black Cat. Legend had it that it was named after the favourite moggy of the first innkeeper on that site. The cat had met its death when a runaway stage coach had run over it, cutting off its tail. And for the past two hundred years its ghost appeared each time the pub changed hands. Thus it was that the new licensee, up late cooking the books, was confronted by the ghostly apparition of the cat carrying its tail in its paw. “My soul won’t rest until my tail is restored’” moaned the ghost. “Can you help me?” The publican put down his pen. “I’m afraid it can’t be done,” he said, “I am not allowed to retail spirits after ten-thirty.”
