Last week we spent 5 days reviewing our work from term 2 and evaluang what worked and the areas that needed improvements. We undertook our parent teacher interviews via telephone conferences and we reviewed our community feedback from our survey monkey. We also reviewed our student data and student feedback. From all of this, we developed the next steps in learning from home, “Remote Learning 2.0”. With Remote Learning 2.0, we are hoping to stay more connected with our students through regular Webex conferences. These conferences will be occurring with all year levels from Prep through to Year 6. Students and teachers will have the opportunies to connect with each other, undertake short learning experiences and take part in small group focused reading sessions. Our Educaonal Support staff will also be taking part in these sessions with our teachers and be able to be beer equipped to support your children. Furthermore, we have pared back our extra-curricular acvies and narrowed our focus to our core subjects of Literacy and Numeracy. This will enable our students to further develop these skills in a range of learning experiences and not be overwhelmed with tasks to complete. Finally, we are introducing a specialist day. On Wednesdays our specialist teachers have created some fun and interacve learning tasks for Physical Educaon, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Spanish. To ensure our students are sll receiving the daily requirements of literacy and numeracy, we have embedded these within the tasks. We hope the students really enjoy these acvies and value the learning. Please note that the classroom teachers are not online for the specialist days. If you have any concerns or quesons, please direct them to the specialist teachers. We hope you enjoy the remote learning period and remember we are here to support you and your children so if you require any assistance, do not hesitate to contact us. Please remember to look aſter your children and your own health and wellbeing and take a break each day. Exercise, meditaon, mindfulness and play are all great ways to destress! Principal’s Message Dear Parents/Guardians, Welcome back

As I am sure you are all well aware now, we have returned to learning from home. Last week we spent 5 days reviewing our work from term 2 and evaluating what worked and the areas that needed improvements. Temperature Checking For those students who do attend on-site, we are now required for students to have their temperature taken upon arrival. The Department of Education has informed schools that if a child has a temperature reading of 37.5 or higher, they must go home and we encourage parents to have their child tested. In the event of your child being tested, you will need to isolate your child at home until you receive your results. Remember your child can continue to participate in the remote learning opportunities at home to ensure they do not miss out on any learning opportunities. Face Masks The Victorian Chief Medical Office has announced that those in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire must wear face coverings when they leave home. Face covering is mandatory for persons 12 and over. However, the following are not required to wear a face covering: Students in Year 6 who have turned 12 in a primary school. Primary aged children. Students and staff who have a medical condition as per the latest advice. Teachers and Education Support staff while in the act of teaching. At Kilberry Valley Primary School we require all parents and carers to wear face coverings when dropping off and collecting their children from the school and when visiting the school for any reason. Teachers and Education Support staff will wear face masks in other learning areas of the school such as yard duty, staff room, providing first aid and taking temperatures. Remember all adults are still required to practise social distancing and everyone needs to continue with good hand hygiene. SeeSaw

During our Remote Learning 2.0, we are continuing to use SeeSaw as our main delivery service for your child’s learning. Each day our teachers will be providing learning through this app for your children to access. Your children will need their username and passwords, so if you are having any trouble accessing this learning, please contact us through our tech support email: [email protected] Furthermore, we are using the SeeSaw Family App to distribute communications for our families. So please remember to check this regularly for our school notices, forms and announcements. You can also

view and comment on your own child’s work, as well as communicate with the classroom teacher. We hope you enjoy continuing to use SeeSaw. Unwell students or staff, should not be at school Important advice from the chief medical officer of Victoria and the Department of Education, is that any students or staff who are unwell, should not be at school. If any child presents any symptoms of being unwell, we will be notifying the parent and asking that they be collected as soon as possible. Please understand that we cannot take any chances with this and if your child has any medical conditions or allergies, please ensure your child’s action plans and documentation is up to date by contacting our school office. School Loaned Devices During the Remote Learning 2.0, we are able to offer families loaned devices to assist students with accessing their learning. Students are able to borrow either an iPad or a school Laptop. We also have internet dongles available for those families who have no internet at home. How to help your child with their reading…

This term in our newsletter, we will be exploring

‘The Big 6’ of reading development. Research

has found that each of these is an essential

building block towards our students becoming

successful readers.

Oral Language Oral language is Speaking

and Listening – being able to

understand what we hear.

Listening can occur even

when no sounds are heard,

that is, by taking note of

pitch, tone, stress, and use of

gesture to understand a

speaker’s meaning.

Oral language skills usually

develop naturally as children

grow, unlike reading which

needs to be explicitly taught. What you can do at home to support oral language

development:

Talk!

Ask open questions rather than closed questions.

Eg. ‘What did you learn at school?’ rather

than, ‘Did you have a good day?’

Encourage your child to speak in full sentences

and questions.

Note; Camps or Excursions paid by CSEF are unable to be refunded to a bank account.

CSEF money will be credited to your child to be used for future Camps, sports and excursions.
