Preface
This book is written to assist pupils in preparing for the Primary 1 English Paper Two examinations. There are a total of 10 specially crafted examination style papers. The main features of the papers are as follows.
1. Questions are modelled after examination papers set by top well known Singapore schools.
2. Questions are crafted to enrich vocabulary and enhance
understanding of English writing and language usage. This book comes with a multimedia CDROM. The CDROM contains detailed explanation of every question in each of the papers by our teacher. These lessons ensure pupils understand the reasons behind each answer. Outreach Book Alive series brings the “tuition teacher” to you at zero cost. You may also want to try our online programme. These are interactive “diagnostic” modules consisting of multiple choice questions. The incorrect options to each question are carefully crafted based on specific misconception in learners. If your child submit a wrong answer, our system will dynamically diagnose your child’s problem and provide an explanation on why the answer is wrong, and what is the correct way to solve such questions. Section I: Comprehension (10 marks) Read the passage carefully and answer the questions which follow. My brother, sister and I love rainy days. We enjoy playing in the rain.
There is a shallow stream near our house. Each time it rains, we go
there to sail our paper boats and watch them being swept away. The
rain makes the water in the stream flow faster and it is exciting to
watch the swift currents flow over the stones, carrying away leaves,
grass and other refuse from our garden. We watch intently as our
paper boats are tossed around in the water. They then sail swiftly down
the stream and we often wonder where they finally end up.
When it is raining, we also like to sit and watch the puddles of water in
our garden. Sometimes, we throw stones into the puddles of water and
watch the ripples of water grow. The water looks like rings of silver as
the shining raindrops fall onto its surface.
Once in a while, we enjoy ourselves playing ball games in the rain. It is
fun, provided we do not catch a cold.

child, right from kindergarten. It is they who prepare the child for his
or her life in society.
99
Teachers' Day is held to show appreciation to teachers who work hard
and who teach their pupils patiently. In most schools, pupils bring gifts
of flowers, presents and other tokens, which are sometimes hand-
made, to show that they care for their teachers. A party is held where
tasty refreshments and drinks are served in the classroom for both
the teachers and the students. Everyone has a good time and the day
ends earlier than usual.
Teachers play a very important role in the development of a child.
