All these things are reasons to give and receive. As we move through the second half of the year I would like everyone to give and receive. Volunteer to be not just involved in LLDO, but in your community, your work department, or your family. Take on the task that nobody else is volunteering for and make it an opportunity, not a task. If you do, you may just receive more than you give.

2016

The holiday season is upon us and it is a busy time of the year. People are busy getting together with family and friends. Often this is the time of the year that is thought about for a time of giving. This month I would like everybody to think about giving more throughout the year but not in the sense of traditional giving. LLDO and NMA are organizations built around giving. These two groups are ran by volunteers who “give” their time to the organizations. This giving is an important aspect of the groups and how they run. On the same hand, I would like to argue that the volunteers are giving and receiving at the same time. When you volunteer your time and effort, a lot of times you will receive things in return. You may receive a good feeling for helping out a good cause, you may receive feedback on how to make yourself a better leader, you may receive a smile for someone that was affected by your time and effort.

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

LLDO Presents:

KENT STOCK

Thursday, January 19, 2017

11:30 AM

Large Auditorium

Catered by: Cafeteria

Extraordinary teacher, coach, principal, banker, husband, parent and powerful speaker, Kent Stock is also the man who coached the 1991 Norway High School baseball team during their now-famous final season. As depicted in the 2007 film “The Final Season”, the nationally recognized Norway baseball team came together under inauspicious circumstances. They defied the odds under the leadership of the first-year head baseball coach, Kent Stock, and proceeded to win Norway’s 20th state title. Kent recently released a book titled, “Heading for Home: My Journey from Little League to Hollywood” outlining his life’s journey and the behind the scenes stories of filming a movie.

In light of the new Star Wars movie recently being released, did you

know the distinctive sounds of the TIE fighters in the original Star Wars

were created

by adding the sound of an elephant call to that of a

car driving on wet pavement? Another interesting

fact about the ships in Star Wars is that some of the

combat scenes were inspired by World War II dog-

fights/battles. Most notably is the famous scene of

Luke flying through the Death Star trench. May the

force be with you!

DECEMBER PROGRAM REVIEW

RAY COLE

STAR WARS By: Weston Berg

This 2016 end of the year LLDO program left us

with an uplift of inspiration. Ray Cole, a Hall of Fame broadcaster, spent his leadership roles on the

boards of ABC-TV Affiliates Association, National Association of Broadcasters, Televisions Bureau of

Advertising, and Broadcasters Foundation of America. He told stories about the many experiences

involving well-known figures from the worlds of television, sports, entertainment and politics. He recalled

stories about the time he played golf with former actor Michael Jay Fox, who fought Parkinson’s Disease.

He remembered the time of playing golf with Michael and the challenges he faced with Parkinson’s. But

the unforgettable determination is what people saw in Michael, which leaded him to begin funding for

Parkinson Research Foundation. Ray Cole later helped him by advertising and promoting his foundation

through his broadcasts to bring joy and possibility for those who struggle with Parkinson’s every day.

Determination is a key factor to leadership, which can lead to unbelievable things. Just like Ray’s story

about Rob Lowe striking a golf ball with a sand wedge and hitting the Iowa’s state bird in midair on

accident. Possibilities are endless as long as you are “Hanging with Winners” or so called leaders.
