President’s Message by: Gene Insley
This is getting to be a habit. On a plane to Chicago again when Ray tracks me down and reminds me it's time for the greatly anticipated Prez's Message. Hopefully O'Hare has a hot-spot to get this in-route upon landing. This time of year we focus on one of the most serious activities of PCC, our annual gift to a charity or in some cases charities. While we dedicate many of the clubs funds to membership
activities there is nothing more important that supporting some of our members favorite causes. Our Charity Committee will be calling very soon for your ideas as to who should benefit this year. Our system is simple. Just jot down a few reasons why your favorite cause should be supported for consideration and submit. We try to spread the donations and all cannot be supported but consideration isn't possible without your ideas. Please give it your thoughts and a few minutes of your time. It's a great opportunity to put a smile on the faces of many. Keep Driving !

A Word From Our Vice President Ken James
Are you interested in hosting an event for the club? Great! Here is what you need to do:
1) Upon making a decision to host an event please email me with the date of the proposed event to ensure there is no other club event already planned for that day or weekend.
2) Email me the details and any flyer, registration forms or website links to be added to the PCC Calendar.
3) Email a reminder to club members with meeting details/information one week prior to the event. (Note: On page 19 of the PCC Rules Book is a list of items that may help you get
organized. Also, keep in mind that the club has plenty of folks including myself who have
held events and are willing to assist you with your event…so relax & have fun doing it).
I will:
1) Announce your event at the monthly meeting. 2) Create signup sheets (and scan them after each meeting and send you a copy) 3) Send all your info to the PCC Webmaster for posting on the PCC Calendar. 4) Provide any assistance I can to you.
Don’t forget to use the “Events” tab at www.socalcarculture.com to find local car
events and the “Clubs” tab to check out other Corvette Clubs to see if they have
any events coming up that you or PCC would enjoy.

PCC Casino Night at the Katz’s
by: Bonnie Best
July 19, 2014
Saturday July 19th, Robin and Danny
Katz, back by popular demand, hosted
The PCC Casino Night at their
beautiful World Famous Home, in
Anaheim Hills.
They did it with the Viva Las Vegas
touch. For those who attended
agreed it was a 5 star event. Only
thing missing was Elvis but you know… he left the building.
We knew we were there when we saw our club’s beautiful Corvettes parked out
front. It was the perfect greeting to the PCC Casino Night. In the Katz’s
large back patio, there was lots of good food and good service provided by
Armando the Taco Guy. The buffet tables had hot and cold selections and there
were plenty of dining areas. We all enjoyed the food and participated in
friendly conversation. No one went home hungry.
Also on the patio many participated in games coordinated by The Vegas Nite Casino
Rental and Ron Gonzalez (owner) was the pit Boss. There were plenty of laughs and
11 prizes were given out. Some of the happy winners received adult beverage prizes.
For instance Gene Simmons won bottles of scotch, and Rick Alpert won some Johnny
Walker Limited Edition. Another winner was Laurie Smith who won a $50 gift card
to a restaurant and a 2nd prize. Other prizes included some; candles, house
scents from Bath and Body Works, Sees Candy, and there were many more $50 gift
cards to Lucille’s, Blank Angus, PF Changs, etc. There were also some nice wine
glasses given out to some lucky people. A really big thank you goes out to
Robin and Danny for opening up their home to the PCC Corvette Club. Your time
and effort is greatly appreciated and thanks for providing us with wonderful memories.

2014 Corvette Caravan to Bowling Green, KY and Back
4812 miles
by Dick and Barbara Block
We arrive in Ontario CA Thursday PM to find out our hotel wing had no electricity, so
it was off to the bar to meet our caravan travelers.
Approximately180 Corvettes lined up Friday morning at the
Ontario NASCAR track in Fontana CA, where we were
given our road instructions for our 2000 mile trip to Bowling
Green KY. We then all roared off to Kingman, AZ. for
lunch. From there we headed to Williams AZ for our first
overnight stay via several side trips on Route 66. We were
number 3 in line in the beginning. Little did we know, in
order to maintain our space in line we would not have a
restroom break for 5 ½ hours. Driving speeds of 65 to 95
mph became a constant challenge. No cruise control here.
Saturday morning we were off to Gallup NM for lunch
and then on to Albuquerque for the night. Reliable
Chevrolet provided a show and shine with music and food
trucks for our socializing.
It's Sunday and we're all off to Tucumcari, NM for
lunch. A poor little town, almost deserted on old Route 66
with only one restaurant remaining. Many passed it by and
continued on seeking lunch else where.
Now on to Amarillo TX with a huge gathering in El Reno
OK for lunch at the local Chevy dealer. Frontier Chevrolet
provided free BBQ lunch for all of us and our group
doubled in size. Just outside of Amarillo, we stopped at
The Cadillac Ranch for some graffiti on the half buried
Cadillacs sticking out of a corn field.
The main group, smaller now due to some clubs
traveling at their own pace continued on to Tulsa OK for
our night at the very lavish Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. A
social Happy Hour was held on the 18th floor. It was well
attended. We dined at the Toby Keith Bar and Grill down
stairs.
We discovered our top would not go up on the convertible, so we left the Hard Rock
Casino early the next morning and headed to Springfield MO to Reliable Chevrolet for
service. It seems, if the car is in storage for a period of time or the battery goes dead
P a g e | 6 Corvette Waves September 2014
_____________________________________________________________________________________
you'll need to reset the computer, a simple 2 step process
with the window switches. While in Springfield we enjoyed a
box lunch at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. It was a hot day and
the air conditioning was appreciated.
Our next over nighter was in Cape Girardeau MO in
conjunction with “Corvettes in the Cape” where we had a
Corvette display in old town along the river front with a street
festival and parade.
In leaving for Bowling Green the next morning, we were
lucky to join up with the Simi Valley Corvette Club. They
followed the tour book directions through Shawnee National
Forest and “Land Between the Lakes”. The small town rural
area was a pleasant change from our high speed freeway
travel.
When arriving at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green
volunteers paraded us around the grounds in front of waving
fans. My leather flight cap and goggles amused many
revelers from the crowd; top down of course.
Thursday Road Trip 1 Blast from the Past on the Dixie
Highway. Tour of Horse Cave. Friday Road Trip 2 Scenic
Simpson Tour. Beautiful country roads. Green every where.
Friday night was the Grand Old Opry in Nashville a 2 ½ hour
show.
Saturday was 2 free laps around the newly completed race
track and museum tour.
There were fans from nearly every state and Canada
in attendance.
Sunday AM we left Bowling Green in the rain. It rained all the
way to the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tn. Banzai home.
2000 miles; 3 days, 2 nights. Sure was nice using the cruise
control all the way home.

PCC Visits Mira Mar Flying Leathernecks Museum
by Dave McCue
August 8, 2014
Things didn’t start out as planned for Ed and Trish Moore on their way to the Marine
Corp Aviation Museum, known as the “Flying Leatherneck Museum”. They left in plenty
of time from their home in San Clemente to arrive at our meeting place, the Carl’s Jr in
San Juan Capistrano. Heading north on the 5 Freeway, Ed pulled off on Ortega
Highway and prepared to turn left. Ed stopped at the light.
The traffic light seemed impossibly long. Ed thought there must be something wrong
with the light. Not wanting to be embarrassed by being late for his own event, Ed looked
both ways, making sure the road was clear, and turned against the red. He didn’t get
far. A patrolman was lurking, out of sight, waiting to ticket unsuspecting cars.
Ed pulled over, grabbed his license
and registration, and then rolled
down his window as he was
approached by the patrolman. It must
have been the cops first day on the
job because while PCC members
were filing into Carl’s Jr, the patrolman was on his
phone, requesting assistance. What a joke; it turns
out that the guy didn’t know how to write out a
ticket. Now, there’s your tax dollars at work.
Maybe he was sick the day they taught traffic
citations 101. Or maybe he was late for the
meeting because he was sitting in the parking lot
dunking his donuts. Unfortunately for Ed, the traffic
violation took place in a construction zone. That
doubled the fine to the amount of $500.
Traffic snafu behind him, Ed was still excited. He
had been told the actual Sikorsky H34 helicopter
that he flew in Viet Nam in 1964 was at the
museum. He said the serial number he had been
given matched and he was curious to see his old

war bird.
Upon arriving, we were met by two docents and our group
was split in two. Too soon, Ed was shortly heartbroken to
learn that his chopper was off-site having restoration work
done to it. We did get a picture of Ed leaning against the
exhaust pipe of a blue ship that was the same model as
the one he flew though. There’s a picture of the log book,
listing every mission he flew
during his tour in Vet Nam. There
is another picture of Ed and Trish
standing by a yellow Beechcraft
T34 Trainer, another ship Ed flew
while training pilots.
The docents presented a lecture
on Marine Corp’s history in the
Pacific Theater, WWII and Korea.
Marine Corp Aircraft was on
display covering the time period
from WWII up to the modern days.
We saw a tennis ball stuck on the long antenna of a jet. We
were told that the point of the antenna is so sharp that there
have been injuries caused by bumping into it so now the tip
is protected by the tennis ball.
After the tour, a couple of the docents grabbed their
cameras and took pictures of our gorgeous Vettes. When we left, Ed led us to a little
place called Texas BBQ. It was buried in a strip mall. We don’t know how he found it,
however it was very, very good.
The only down side was the trip
home. The traffic was very dense
and I spent a lot of time shifting
from second to third gear in my ’70,
wishing I had an automatic. Of
course in 1974, when I bought it, I
didn’t want no frigging automatic.
Many thanks to Ed and Trish Moor for their fine
job they did on their first PCC event.

PCC Attends Meguiars Detailing Class
by: Ken James
August 23, 2014
It was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning as
the 12 corvettes from PCC cruised into the
Meguiars Detailing Garage parking lot. Not a
soul was about…we were the first ones there!!
The neighborhood was soooo quiet before our
arrival……ohhhhhh how I love the sound of
CORSA’s in the morning! As everyone got out
of their cars and were greeting each other the
quietness of the day suddenly erupted again
with the sound of 10 more beautiful shiny
Corvettes arriving. Wait a minute….who were
these guys….our club was already all here.
The “Corvettes of San Diego Club” came up
from the Escondido area for the class…..we all
greeted each other and checked out each
other’s cars. It was an awesome moment!
Anyways, the detailing class. Needless to say
we all learned a lot and had a good time while
doing it…some more than others. Oscar &
Denis were the vocal ones from our club and
kept the instructors on their toes with all their
stories and questions…. those two clowns just
kept the class fun & lively. Thanks guys!
The only brave guy in the crowd was Brad
Anderson who graciously volunteered his
precious toy for
the “hands on”
detailing part of
the class. Now
he has the only
red corvette in
Orange County

that is fifty shades of gray….errrr, I meant red.
I think it was a good time for all, great venue, great instruction, great food &
drinks….and we all took something away from the class that we didn’t know before. And
the best part….it was all free!
In case you missed out this time you don’t have to wait a year or two for PCC to visit
them again, you can sign up anytime for their monthly classes at
www.meguiarsonline.com.

Pie in the Sky Run
by: Ray Marshall
September 13, 2014
It seems like every year the club gets off their tails
and does something very constructive, we get in
our cars and drive to Julian to help the poor pie
producers in the area. This year the event was
coordinated by Jim Rufus and Carole Deering. We
met up at Carl’s Junior at Ortega Hwy and the 5
fwy. We talked a bit, lied a bit. And then set off for
the mountains.
On the trip out, we
see a lot of beautiful
scenery and drive on
some good Corvette
roads. The caravan
gets a little separated
at times due to the
traffic lights but when we were together the sight of
all those Corvettes is great.
Our first stop was at the
Palomar Observatory.
The drive up the
mountain is great,
except for the
motorcycles that think
the road is their private
race track. We got
there and parked the cars. Many folks went on to
see Observatory on a self guided tour. The
telescope is a fantastic piece of
machinery.
So much for education, lets get
some pie. We get in our cars and
drive to Julian. Jim and Carole
P a g e | 15 Corvette Waves September 2014
_____________________________________________________________________________________
scouted out a parking lot and most of us parked
there. There was a $5 charge, but we did get to
park together and not
have to hunt all over town
to find parking.
We had lunch at
Carman’s Place on the
main drag. It is a
combination mexican and
american restaurant. We
had eaten there before but it had a different name then. The
food was very good. The only drawback was that half the
seating in indoors and half is outside. As usually the case at
this time of year, it was a bit hot. We made due. The next
stop was pie. We went the Julian Pie Company which was
just down the street from the restaurant. The Dutch apple pie
a la mode was the perfect finish to a great day.
The day for us ended with visiting the gift shops and then a
drive home. A good sized group contiued on to an
educational trip to Temechula to visit wineries.
Another great trip for pie.
