Prep Newsletter Week 2 We would like to congratulate all Prep students on their wonderful start to school. We could not be more thrilled with the way they have settled in. They are a bright, cheerful and enthusiastic group and we know that we will have a wonderful year. Thank you to all our lovely parents, guardians and families who left your children in our care on the first day of school. It was lovely to see you all there. Literacy This week, in Literacy, students will be learning our first four letters and the sounds they make – a, c, d & f. They will be introduced to the Letterland characters and complete craft for each letter. We learn a song for each letter, so you may like to ask your child to sing you the letters songs. On Monday, students drew an event from their weekend and their teacher wrote about the event. Students will do diary each Monday morning so it is helpful if you discuss their weekend with them. You may like to write some notes about your child’s weekend and put them in their bag. This assists those students who may forget what they did! Numeracy In Numeracy last week, we explored and played with a variety of maths equipment. The equipment included unifix blocks, clocks, counters, money and shapes. This week we will be looking at the numbers one to ten. We will look at counting, how to make the numbers and how to write each number. Unit of Inquiry Our Inquiry theme for this term is ‘Who We Are’. Our central idea is every day we learn more about who we are and what we can do. We will focus on how students can express their feelings, their likes and dislikes and what they do and how it affects them and those around them. . Specialist Lessons This week students will attend the following specialists sessions: Physical Education with Mr Friggi Science with Mrs Volz ICT with classroom teachers Visual Arts with Mrs Carslake French with Ms May Music with Miss Ferwerda PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) with Mrs Barclay. The Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is a movement-based program which helps younger students improve their hand/eye and eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills.

Assessment No School on Wednesdays in February

During February, students will not attend school

on Wednesdays. Students will attend one session

during those four Wednesdays in order for us to

conduct individual assessments. You will have

received a letter that notified you of your child’s

assessment date and time. If you do not know

your assessment time, or the time allocated does

not suit, please speak with your classroom

teacher.

Reminders

• Please ensure that your child has brought their

art smock to school. This will help keep their

uniforms clean. Art will commence this week.

• Show and Tell commences next week. You

should have received a Show and Tell roster.

We look forward to seeing all students present

about their holidays.

AssemblyOn Friday we will attend our first assembly.

Assembly is held every second Friday in the

Esther Wood Centre. It begins at 2:45pm and runs

for approximately thirty minutes. All parents are

welcome to attend. We will be doing assembly

preparation with the students this week so that

they know what to expect.

Class awards are given each fortnight to one

student per class. Once a fortnight on a Thursday

you will receive a school newsletter and this lists

the students who will receive an award at

assembly. The students get very excited about

receiving an award and it is lovely if they have

family members there to watch them.

We hope that your child enjoyed the first few days at school and we look forward to many wonderful weeks

ahead. If you have any issues or questions about anything please come and speak with us before or after

school.

Week One Fun!

Monitors and Buddies

The prep students have been having a

wonderful time playing in the Prep playground.

Along with the prep teachers and yard duty

teachers, we also have Prep Playground

monitors. These are selected Grade Six students

who assist Preps in the playground. Our students

have loved getting to know them.

We also had the pleasure of meeting our Level

Three buddies. We look forward to many fun

times with them throughout the year.
