colour from that of the supplied handsets.

Your smartphone: 4 max.You can expand your phone system by installing the SmartphoneConnect app on your smartphone and registering your smartphoneto the base unit.R You must configure the base unit and download the app before

you can use these features. See the “Smartphone Integration”chapter beginning on page 44 for more information.

For your safetyTo prevent severe injury and loss of life/property, read this section carefully beforeusing the product to ensure proper and safeoperation of your product.

WARNING

Power connectionR Use only the power source marked on the

product.R Do not overload power outlets and

extension cords. This can result in the riskof fire or electric shock.

R Completely insert the AC adaptor/powerplug into the power outlet. Failure to do somay cause electric shock and/or excessiveheat resulting in a fire.

R Regularly remove any dust, etc. from theAC adaptor/power plug by pulling it fromthe power outlet, then wiping with a drycloth. Accumulated dust may cause aninsulation defect from moisture, etc.resulting in a fire.

R Unplug the product from power outlets if itemits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makesan unusual noise. These conditions cancause fire or electric shock. Confirm thatsmoke has stopped emitting and contact anauthorised service centre.

R Unplug from power outlets and never touchthe inside of the product if its casing hasbeen broken open.

R Never touch the plug with wet hands.Danger of electric shock exists.

InstallationR To prevent the risk of fire or electrical

shock, do not expose the product to rain orany type of moisture.

R Do not place or use this product nearautomatically controlled devices such asautomatic doors and fire alarms. Radiowaves emitted from this product may causesuch devices to malfunction resulting in anaccident.

R Do not allow the AC adaptor or telephoneline cord to be excessively pulled, bent orplaced under heavy objects.

R It is advised not to use the equipment at arefuelling point. Users are reminded toobserve restrictions on the use of radioequipment in fuel depots, chemical plantsor where blasting operations are inprogress.

Operating safeguardsR Unplug the product from power outlets

before cleaning. Do not use liquid oraerosol cleaners.

R Do not disassemble the product.R Do not spill liquids (detergents, cleansers,

etc.) onto the telephone line cord plug, orallow it to become wet at all. This maycause a fire. If the telephone line cord plugbecomes wet, immediately pull it from thetelephone wall socket, and do not use.

MedicalR Consult the manufacturer of any personal

medical devices, such as pacemakers orhearing aids, to determine if they areadequately shielded from external RF(radio frequency) energy. DECT featuresoperate between 1.88 GHz and 1.90 GHzwith a peak transmission power of 250 mW.Wi-Fi features operate between 2.412 GHzand 2.472 GHz with a peak transmissionpower of 100 mW.

R Do not use the product in health carefacilities if any regulations posted in thearea instruct you not to do so. Hospitals orhealth care facilities may be usingequipment that could be sensitive toexternal RF energy.

CAUTION

Installation and locationR Never install telephone wiring during an

electrical storm.R Never install telephone line sockets in wet

locations unless the socket is specificallydesigned for wet locations.

R Never touch uninsulated telephone wires orterminals unless the telephone line hasbeen disconnected at the network interface.

R Use caution when installing or modifyingtelephone lines.

R The AC adaptor is used as the maindisconnect device. Ensure that the ACoutlet is installed near the product and iseasily accessible.

R This product is unable to make calls when:– the handset batteries need recharging or

have failed.– there is a power failure.– the key lock feature is turned on.

R Do not place magnetic cards or similarobjects near the phone. Magnetic data onthe cards, etc. may be deleted.

R Do not place metallic objects such aspaperclips near the product. Metallicobjects could cause a short circuit if theytouch the charge contacts.

BatteryR We recommend using the batteries noted

on page 3. USE ONLY rechargeableNi-MH batteries AAA (R03) size.

R Do not mix old and new batteries.R Do not open or mutilate the batteries.

Released electrolyte from the batteries iscorrosive and may cause burns or injury tothe eyes or skin. The electrolyte is toxic andmay be harmful if swallowed.

R Exercise care when handling the batteries.Do not allow conductive materials such asrings, bracelets, or keys to touch thebatteries, otherwise a short circuit maycause the batteries and/or the conductivematerial to overheat and cause burns.

R Charge the batteries provided with oridentified for use with this product only, inaccordance with the instructions andlimitations specified in this manual.

R Only use a compatible base unit (orcharger) to charge the batteries. Do nottamper with the base unit (or charger).Failure to follow these instructions maycause the batteries to swell or explode.

General noticesR This equipment will be inoperable when

mains power fails.R When a failure occurs which results in the

internal parts becoming accessible,disconnect the power supply cordimmediately and return this unit to anauthorised service centre.

R To minimise the possibility of lightningdamage, when you know that athunderstorm is coming, we recommendthat you:– Unplug the telephone line cord from the

phone socket.– Unplug the AC adaptor from the AC

power outlet.R No “000” (for Australia), “111” (for New

Zealand), and/or other calls can be madefrom this device during a mains powerfailure.

R The earpiece on the handset is magnetisedand may retain small metallic objects.

Important notice:R Under power failure conditions, this

telephone may not operate. Please ensurethat a separate telephone, not dependenton local power, is available for emergencyuse.

For New ZealandR Disconnect the telecom connection before

disconnecting the power connection prior torelocating the equipment, and reconnectthe power first.

R This equipment shall not be set to makeautomatic calls to the Telecom “111”Emergency Service.

R The unit’s answering system only respondsto Distinctive Alert cadence(s) DA1 andDA3.

R Not all telephones will respond to incomingringing when connected to the extensionsocket.

R This equipment may not provide for theeffective hand-over of a call to anotherdevice connected to the same line.

R The grant of a Telepermit for any item ofterminal equipment indicates only thatTelecom has accepted that the itemcomplies with minimum conditions forconnection to its network. It indicates no

R Coverage and voice quality depends on thelocal environmental conditions.

R If the reception for a base unit location isnot satisfactory, move the base unit toanother location for better reception.

EnvironmentR Keep the product away from electrical noise

generating devices, such as fluorescentlamps and motors.

R The product should be kept free fromexcessive smoke, dust, high temperature,and vibration.

R Do not place heavy objects on top of theproduct.

During a power failureThe unit will not work during a power failure.We recommend connecting a corded-typetelephone (without AC adaptor) to the sametelephone line or to the same telephone linesocket using a telephone double adaptor (forAustralia)/a BT double adaptor (for NewZealand).

Note for battery installationR Use the supplied rechargeable batteries.

For replacement, we recommend using thePanasonic rechargeable batteries noted onpage 3, 6.

Note for battery chargingR It is normal for the handset to feel warm

during charging.R Clean the charge contacts of the handset,

base unit, and charger with a soft and drycloth once a month. Before cleaning theunit, disconnect from power outlets and anytelephone line cords. Clean more often ifthe unit is exposed to grease, dust, or highhumidity.

your display will show the area code (e.g.09 for Auckland) or the cellular prefix (e.g.0274 for Telecom Cellular) followed by thecaller’s telephone number. TroubleshootingIf you still have difficulties after following the instructions in this section, disconnect the base unit’sAC adaptor and turn off the handset, then reconnect the base unit’s AC adaptor and turn on thehandset.

General use

Problem Cause/solutionThe handset does not turnon even after installingcharged batteries.

R Place the handset on the base unit or charger to turn on thehandset.

R The wireless network is congested. When using a smartphoneto talk on landline calls (page 44), sound may cut out if largeamounts of data are transmitted over the wireless network,such as when streaming video, downloading or uploadinglarge files, etc.

R The base unit’s Wi-Fi repeater mode feature is turned on andthe base unit is too close to your wireless router. Turn Wi-Firepeater mode off (page 45), or place the base unit and yourwireless router further from each other.

R The base unit’s Wi-Fi repeater mode feature is turned on andyou are also using a Wi-Fi range extender. Do not use Wi-Firepeater mode if you already have a Wi-Fi range extender.

Sound quality seems to begetting worse.

R You have registered a handset that is not recommended(page 4). The clearest sound quality is only possible byregistering the recommended handset.

The handset does not ring. R The ringer volume is turned off. Adjust ringer volume (page 14,23).

R Night mode is turned on. Turn it off (page 28).I cannot make a call. R If you are using a BT double adaptor to connect the unit,

remove the adaptor and connect the unit to the phone wallsocket directly. If the unit operates properly, check or replacethe adaptor. (for New Zealand)

R You dialled a call restricted number (page 31).R The key lock feature is turned on. Turn it off (page 16).R The unit is not designed to be used with rotary/pulse dialling

If the unitdoes not work properly, contact an authorised service centre.

Caution:R To avoid permanent damage, do not use a microwave oven to speed up the drying process.

Network connection troubleshootingProblem Cause/solutionI am having troubleconnecting.

R Your wireless router is not turned or is not functioning. Refer tothe operating instructions included with your wireless router.

R Your smartphone is not connected to your wireless router. Checkyour smartphone’s Wi-Fi settings. Refer to the operatinginstructions included with your smartphone.

R The SSID (wireless network name), security type, or passwordassigned to the wireless router has been changed. Configure thebase unit again using the procedure described in “Typicalconfiguration (DHCP)”, page 44, or “Simplified configuration(WPS, DHCP)”, page 45.

R Confirm the base unit’s Wi-Fi and IP settings using the proceduredescribed in “Confirming network status”, page 46.

R If your wireless router’s client isolation feature (a feature thatprevents wireless devices connected to the same wireless routerfrom communicating with each other) is turned on, your base unitand your smartphone will not be able to communicate with eachother. Refer to the operating instructions included with yourwireless router and make sure that this feature is turned off.

R The base unit’s network settings are incorrect. Reset the baseunit’s network settings (page 46) and configure the networksettings again.

My smartphone andother devices cannotaccess the Internetsince I turned on Wi-Firepeater mode.

R Do not use Wi-Fi repeater mode (page 45) if you already have aWi-Fi range extender.

If you selected “WPS (Easy Setup)” when configuring thebase unitR Your wireless router uses WEP encryption. Configure the

wireless router to use another type of encryption, such asWPA2-PSK (AES) encryption, and try again.

R Your wireless router’s “stealth mode” feature is turned on, or its“SSID broadcast” feature is turned off. Change this setting beforeconfiguring the base unit to connect to your wireless router, andthen change it back when finished.

If you have configured your wireless router to use MACaddress filteringR Make sure you add the base unit’s MAC address to the list of

authorised MAC addresses. If the base unit’s Wi-Fi repeatermode feature is turned on, the base unit has two MAC addresses(“<MAC Addr.(Client)>” and “<MAC Addr.(AP)>”). Addthem both to the list.

“Wrong Password” isdisplayed.

R You entered the wrong password when configuring the base unitto connect to your wireless router. Confirm the password and tryagain.

“IP Addressconflicts” isdisplayed.

R The IP address assigned to the base unit is also assigned toanother device on your network. Check the IP address settings ofthe base unit and other devices on the network.

“Cannot obtain IPAddress” is displayed.

R Your wireless router does not support DHCP, or the DHCPfeature of your wireless router is turned off. If your wireless routersupports DHCP, make sure that its DHCP feature is turned on. IfDHCP is not available, set the base unit’s IP settings manually.See “Advanced configuration (static IP settings)”, page 45.
