DESCRIPTION

Pre-Shift Examination Scenario Continuous Miner Section This is a continuous miner section. Twelve miners work on this section. The entries average 20 feet wide and 5 1/2 feet high. The ventilation plan calls for: –Air quantity at least 7000 cfm at all working places where coal is being cut, mined, drilled for blasting, or loaded. –Air quantity at least 3000 cfm in working places being bolted. –Air quantity at least 18,500 cfm in the last open crosscut. –Air movement in all other places shall be sufficient to dilute, render harmless and carry away flammable, explosive, noxious and harmful gases, dust, smoke and fumes. The roof control plan calls for: –6 foot bolts on 4 foot centers –Entry widths shall be no more than 20 feet in width

Pre-Shift Examination Scenario Continuous Miner Section

• You are the pre-shift examiner at the XYZ mine. You are conducting a pre-shift examination of the mine before the crew begins work at 7:00 a.m. Your pre-shift began at 5:00 a.m. and will be finished at 6:30 a.m. You will call the report outside at 6:35 a.m. You have already conducted the pre-shift exam from the outside to the loading point of the Main West 003 Section. You did not observe any hazards from the outside to the Main West 003 working section loading point. You are now going to conduct a pre-shift examination for the Main West 003 working section. It is Monday morning, and you are the only person in the mine. This mine has been idle over the weekend. The belt is not running.
