    HAWKEYES PREPARE FOR POST-SEASON Iowa posted a 7-5 regular season record, including a 4-4 mark in Big Ten Con-

    ference play. The Hawkeyes tied for fourth in the Big Ten race. Iowa is bowleligible for the 10th straight season and the Hawkeyes have won January bowlgames following each of the last two seasons. Iowa placed in the rst division of the Big Ten for the ninth time in the last 10 years.

    Iowas record came against one of the toughest schedules in the nation. Iowaposted a 3-3 record against teams who were ranked at the time. Seven of Iowas2010 opponents are also bowl eligible, with Iowa compiling a 3-4 record againstthose teams.

    In each of Iowas ve losses, the Hawkeyes were either tied or leading in thefourth period. Iowa was tied at Arizona, and held a lead in the fourth quarter againstWisconsin, Northwestern, Ohio State and Minnesota. Iowas ve losses came by atotal of 18 points and the four league losses were by a collective 11 points. Iowasmost impressive win was a 37-6 win over Michigan State, which shared the BigTen title while posting an 11-1 overall record.

    In non-conference play, Iowa posted impressive wins over Eastern Illinois (37-7),Iowa State (35-7) and Ball State (45-0), all in Kinnick Stadium, while dropping a34-27 contest at 18th-ranked Arizona.

    The Hawkeyes opened conference play with a 24-3 home win over Penn Stateand a 38-28 win at Michigan. A 31-30 loss to 10th-ranked Wisconsin followed,before the win over previously unbeaten and fth-ranked Michigan State.

    Iowa earned its seventh win with a hard fought decision at Indiana, before narrowlosses at Northwestern (21-17), at home to seventh-ranked Ohio State (20-17) andat Minnesota (27-24).

    The Hawkeyes continue to have great fan support. Iowa matched its season homeattendance record by averaging 70,585 fans. All seven home games were sold out.Iowa posted a 5-2 record in Kinnick Stadium, with the two losses by a total of fourpoints to top 10 opponents.

    IN THE RANKINGSIowa is listed among teams receiving votes in the USA Today coaches poll and

    the Harris Poll and Iowa is 25th in the Sagarin Ratings. The Hawkeyes appearedin the Associated Press national rankings for 23 consecutive polls from Sept. 28,2009, through Nov. 22, 2010.

    Around the Big Ten, Wisconsin is ranked 4/4 (AP/Coaches), Ohio State is 6/6and Michigan State is 7/7. Non-conference opponent Arizona is listed amongteams receiving votes.

    IOWA IN THE BCS RANKINGSIowa appeared in the BCS rankings throughout the season, ranking as high as

    13th on Nov. 8. Iowa was ranked in each of the weekly BCS rankings in 2009,

    including an all-time high of fourth on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Iowa ended last seasonranked 10th in the Dec. 6 nal poll.Iowa was also ranked in the BCS top 25 seven weeks in 2004 and eight weeks in

    both 2002 and 2003. Iowa was ranked once during the 2006 season. Prior to thisseason, Iowa appeared in the BCS top 25 on 32 occasions.

    The BCS rankings are a combination of the Harris Interactive poll, the USA Todaycoaches poll and computer rankings.

    HAWKEYE HISTORY Iowa has played 1,141 games since beginning football in 1889. Iowas overall

    record is 586-516-39 (.531). That includes a 370-201-16 (.644) record in homegames, a 216-315-23 (.411) record in games away from Iowa City, a 289-348-25(.455) mark in Big Ten games and a 253-165-15 (.602) record in Kinnick Stadium.

    BOWL TICKET APPLICATIONSThe Iowa Athletics Ticket Of ce is accepting orders for possible bowl games

    involving the Hawkeye football team. As in the past, fans of the Iowa Hawkeyespurchasing their bowl game tickets through the UI Athletics Ticket Of ce help theUI Athletics Department meet its nancial obligation to the bowl game and areguaranteed seat locations that are part of the of cial University of Iowa sectionof the stadium.

    The ticket of ce began accepting orders via its online ticket window at hawk-eyesports.com on Thursday, Nov. 24.

    To place an order online, fans will need their account number and PIN. Fanswith question should contact the UI Athletics Ticket Of ce at 1-800 IA-HAWKSor (319) 335-9323.

    Fans can also place an order in person by printing an application at home andby delivering it to the UI Athletics Ticket Of ce location at the west entrance of Carver-Hawkeye Arena or by faxing it to the UI Athletics Ticket Of ce. The phonenumber to use when faxing a bowl game ticket order is included on the ticket ap-plication. You will nd a print-at-home version of the bowl game ticket applicationin several locations on hawkeyesports.com.

    The UI Athletics Ticket Of ce will not accept bowl game ticket orders over thephone until the Hawkeyes bowl game destination is of cial. Its possible the des-tination wont be determined of cially until Sunday, Dec. 5, when the 2011 BowlChampionship Series selections are nalized.

    All general public and UI faculty/staff 2010 Iowa football season ticket holdersand all members of the National I-Club will receive a bowl ticket application in themail. UI students who purchased season tickets for the 2010 season will receivean e-mail from the UI Athletic Ticket Of ce with details speci c to student tickets.

    Bowl game ticket orders will be lled based on a customers Iowa football ticketpriority. The deadline to place an order and have it lled by ticket priority is Friday,Dec. 3. There will be limits placed on the number of tickets that can be ordered tosome of the bowl games in which Iowa could be a participant.

    HAWKEYES EARN ALL-BIG TEN HONORSEleven Iowa players have been named to either the rst or second all-Big Ten

    teams selected by the leagues coaches and media.Four Hawkeyes earned rst team all-league recognition, while seven were honored

    as second team selections.Senior defensive end Adrian Clayborn, junior defensive backs Tyler Sash and

    Shaun Prater and senior wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos were named onthe rst unit by the coaches. Clayborn, Sash and Prater also made the medias

    rst team selections for the second straight year.Making the second all-league team, as named by the coaches, were senior of-fensive lineman Julian Vandervelde, sophomore offensive lineman Riley Reiff,

    junior receiver Marvin McNutt, Jr., senior tight end Allen Reisner, senior defensivetackle Karl Klug, senior linebacker Jeremiha Hunter and senior defensive back Brett Greenwood. Reiff, Klug and Vandervelde were named to the medias secondall-Big Ten team.

    Ten Hawkeyes made the medias honorable mention list. That list includesJohnson-Koulianos, McNutt, Jr., Reisner, Greenwood, Hunter, senior DL ChristianBallard, junior DL Mike Daniels, sophomore DB Micah Hyde, sophomore RBAdam Robinson and senior punter Ryan Donahue.

    Making the coaches honorable mention team were Ballard, Daniels, Robinsonand Donahue.

    HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC ALL-BIG TEN HONORSSixteen members of the Iowa football program have earned academic all-Big Ten

    honors for the 2010 fall semester. To be eligible for academic all-Big Ten, student-athletes must be letterwinners and be in at least their second academic year at theinstitution. They must also carry a career grade point average of 3.0 or above.

    Iowa players earning the recognition include sophomore Steve Bigach (Intergra-tive Physiology & Mathematics); senior Justin Greiner (Integrative Physiology);senior Josh Koeppel (Sociology); senior Nick Kuchel (Health & Human Physi-ology); redshirt freshman Nolan MacMillan (Mathematics); senior Brett Morse(Management); senior Daniel Murray (Master Of Business Administration); juniorTyler Nielsen (Management & Finance); senior Ross Petersen (Psychology); seniorColin Sandeman (Art); sophomore Jack Swanson (Computer Science); senior Jeff Tarpinian (Accounting); redshirt freshman Brett Van Sloten (Pre -Business); sopho-more James Vandenberg (Health & Human Physiology); senior Julian Vandervelde(Religious Studies & English); and sophomore Jason White (InterdepartmentalStudies & Theatre Arts).

    The academic honor is the fourth for Morse, Murray, Tarpinian and Vandervelde.Kuchel and Nielsen earned the honor for the third time, while Koeppel, Swanson,Vandenberg and White earned the recognition for the second year.

    IOWA VS. RANKED OPPONENTSWith the 37-6 win over fth-ranked Michigan State (10/30/10), Iowa has recorded

    a victory over a top- ve ranked team in each of the last three seasons. Iowa defeatedfourth-ranked Penn State (21-10) on the road in 2009 and defeated the third-rankedNittany Lions (24-23) in Kinnick Stadium in 2008.

    Iowa has defeated three ranked teams this season, including Penn State (#20),Michigan (#24) and Michigan State (#5). Three of Iowas losses have been at thehands of ranked teams (#18 Arizona, #10 Wisconsin, #7 Ohio State) and North-western moved into the rankings after defeating Iowa. The three wins over rankedteams are the most for Iowa since posting a 3-1 record vs. ranked opponents in 2004.

    Iowa has played six ranked teams this season, matching the most the Hawkeyeshave faced in a single season under coach Kirk Ferentz. Iowa also played sixranked teams in 1999 and 2003. Three of the six ranked opponents were rankedin the top 10. Iowa lost to No. 10 Wisconsin (31-30), defeated No. 5 Michigan

    State (37-6) and lost to No. 7 Ohio State (20-17), all in Kinnick Stadium. Lastseason, Iowa defeated No. 4 Penn State and No. 9 Georgia Tech, while losing atNo. 8 Ohio State in overtime.

    In Big Ten play, Iowas eight opponents posted an overall record of 62-34. Iowadid not play Illinois and Purdue. Among the top ve teams in the nal Big Ten stand-ings, Ohio States league opponents were 51-43, Penn States 52-43, Wisconsins54-42 and Northwesterns 52-42. Seven of Iowas 12 opponents are bowl eligible.

    FERENTZ ON BOBBY DODD WATCH LIST Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz is one of seven coaches on the of cial Watch List for

    the 2010 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award. The Bobby Dodd Coach of theYear Award was rst given in 1976 when it went to Georgias Vince Dooley. Iowashead coach has never won the award.

    Ferentz is in his 12th year with the Hawkeyes and has guided the 2010 squad toa 7-5 record and is 24th in this weeks rankings. He has a career record of 100-81.Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year three times (2002, 04, 09)

    and was National Coach of the Year in 2002.

    CLAYBORN NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN Senior defensive end Adrian Clayborn has been named a rst-team All-American

    by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The AFCA announcesonly one All-America team.

    Clayborn, a 6-4, 285-pounder from St. Louis, is the eighth Hawkeye player toever make the elite AFCA All-America team. He is the fth Kirk Ferentz coachedHawkeye to make the AFCA team. The others were PK Nate Kadeing and OLRobert Gallery (2003) and OL Eric Steinbach and TE Dallas Clark (2002).

    Clayborn was on numerous watch lists this season and is a nalist for the pres-tigious Lombardi Award, which will be awarded Dec. 8th, and the Ted HendricksAward.

    Clayborn totaled 51 tackles his senior campaign, including seven for a loss of 42 yards. He had 3.5 sacks and forced a fumble. He started 29 consecutive gamesand 36 during his Hawkeye career.

    The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945. It is the only All-Americateam chosen exclusively by college footballs head coaches.

    THREE HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORSThree members of the Iowa football program were named to the ESPN Academic

    All-District Seven rst team. Those players are senior OL Julian Vandervelde,senior LB Jeff Tarpinian and junior LB Tyler Nielsen.

    Vandervelde is a native of Davenport who has earned all-District recognition forthe third straight season. He was a rst team selection in 2008 and earned secondteam honors last season. He carries a 3.46 GPA and is majoring in English andreligious studies.

    Vandervelde has started all 12 games in 2010 and has started 35 games throughouthis career, including 16 straight. He earned second team all-Big Ten honors thisseason and has earned academic all-Big Ten recognition in each of the past threeseasons.

    Tarpinian is a native of Omaha, Neb. He is majoring in accounting and has a3.58 GPA. He has also earned academic all-Big Ten honors in each of the pastthree seasons.

    Tarpinian has been hampered by injuries in 2010, but has started four games.He returned to limited action in Iowas 37-6 win over fth-ranked Michigan Stateafter missing two games, and started at outside linebacker at Northwestern. Hedid not play against Ohio State and Minnesota. He has 44 tackles, including 2.5QB sacks. His forced fumble led to a touchdown against Arizona.

    Nielsen, a native of Humboldt, holds a 3.56 GPA and is a management major.He has earned academic all-Big Ten recognition in each of the past two seasons.

    Nielsen started eight games at outside linebacker. He totaled 42 tackles, including4.5 tackles for loss, and has four pass break-ups. He had an interception in Iowas35-7 win over Iowa State. He was injured in Iowas win over Michigan State and

    missed the nal four games of the regular season.Under Coach Kirk Ferentz the last 12 seasons, 17 Iowa football student-athleteshave combined to earn academic all-District and all-America recognition on 31occasions.

    STANZI IS UNITAS FINALIST Senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi is one of ve nalists for the Johnny Unitas

    Golden Arm Award, which goes to the top senior quarterback in the nation. Oth-ers nalists include Andy Dalton (TCU), Colin Kaerpernick (Nevada), ChristianPonder (Florida State) and Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin).

    Stanzi ranks second in the Big Ten and 11th in the nation in pass ef ciency (160.5).He has completed 210-324 attempts for 2,804 yards and 25 touchdowns, with justfour interceptions. The 25 touchdowns are third best for a single season at Iowa,

    the 210 completions are seventh best and the 2,804 yards is sixth best.In career statistics, Stanzi is fourth in completions (531) and attempts (886) andthird in yards (7,177) and touchdowns (56).

    Stanzi was also one of 16 semi nalists for the 2010 Davey OBrien NationalQuarterback Award and one of 16 semi nal candidates for the Maxwell Award.Stanzi was a semi nal candidate for the OBrien Award in 2009 as well.

    CLAYBORN FINALIST FOR TWO AWARDSSenior DE Adrian Clayborn is one of four nalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award

    and one of six nalists for the Ted Hendricks Award. He was also a semi nalistfor the Chuck Bednarik Award. The 41st Lombardi Award will be presented at theRotary Lombardi Award Presentation Dec. 8 in Houston, Texas. The HendricksAward winner will be announced Dec. 8 as well.

    Clayborn has started 36 games in his Hawkeye career, in-cluding the last 29 straight. In 12 games this season he hascollected 51 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and 3.5quarterback sacks. He also has six QB pressures and blockeda eld goal attempt in Iowas 38-28 win at Michigan. He hadseven tackles and a pass break-up in Iowas loss to seventh-ranked Ohio State.

    Clayborn collected 10 tackles in Iowas win over Penn State,earning recognition as the Big Ten Conference DefensivePlayer of the Week. He also had a quarterback sack for minus15 yards and three tackles for loss against the Nittany Lions.He added ve tackles and the seventh forced fumble of hiscareer against Wisconsin.

    Clayborn was named to preseason Watch Lists for the WalterCamp Player of the Year Award, the Ted Hendricks Award,the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Bronko Nagurski Award.He was a preseason rst team all-America selection by Sports

    Illustrated , Sporting News and Playboy magazines.

    DONAHUE IS RAY GUY FINALIST Senior punter Ryan Donahue is one of three nalists for

    the Ray Guy Award. Donahue is a Ray Guy nalist for the rst time in his career. He joins Georgias Drew Butler andFloridas Chas Henry on the elite list. Donahue was a semi- nalist last year.     HAWKEYES ON SEMIFINAL LISTSSenior TE Allen Reisner and junior DB Tyler Sash were

    Reisner was one of eight semi nal candidates for the 2010John Mackey Award (He is not one of the three nalists). Theaward goes annually to the nations best collegiate tight end.Reisner has started every game this year. He has 39 receptionsfor 410 yards (10.5 average) and two touchdowns, includingsix receptions for 66 yards at Northwestern. Former Iowatight end Dallas Clark won the Mackey Award in 2002.

    Sash was one of 10 semi nalists for the Jim Thorpe Award,which goes annually to the top collegiate defensive back. Hecurrently ranks fth in career interceptions (13). Sash is theIowa record holder and ranks fourth all-time in Big Ten his-

    Kirk Ferentz (pronounced FAIR-rintz,rhymes with parents) is in his 12thseason as head football coach at theUniversity of Iowa. His latest contractextension runs through the 2020 season.

    Ferentz was named the 2009 Dave Mc-Clain Big Ten Conference Coach of theYear. He was one of 15 semi- nalistsfor the 2009 George Munger Award,presented by the Maxwell Football Clubto the College Coach of the Year. Hewas the 2009 AFCA Region Three Coach of the Year and wasone of 10 nalists for the Liberty Mutual national Coach of the Year. He is one of seven candidates for the 2010 BobbyDodd Coach of the Year Award.

    Ferentz was honored as the 2002 Associated Press and WalterCamp National Coach of the Year and was the AFCA Regional

    Coach of the Year that season, as well. He was named BigTen Conference Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004 and 2009.Ferentz guided Iowa to Big Ten titles in 2002 and 2004.

    Iowa has made two BCS bowl appearances, including a 24-14 win in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl. Iowa has played in sixJanuary bowl games and has four January bowl victories (2004Outback Bowl, 2005 Capital One Bowl, 2009 Outback Bowland 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl). Iowa has posted an 84-40(.677) overall mark and a 50-29 (.633) Big Ten record the lastnine plus seasons.     Ferentz, at Iowa, holds an overall record of 88-60 (.595) and

    a 53-43 (.552) mark in Big Ten games. In his 15th season as acollege head coach, he holds a career mark of 100-81 (.552).Fifty-six of Iowas 148 games under Ferentz have been

    decided by seven points or less (25-31) and 45 were playedagainst opponents who were ranked in the top 25 at the time(19-26).

    Ferentz joined the Iowa staff after serving as assistant headcoach and offensive line coach of the NFLs Baltimore Ravens.He was part of the Baltimore (Cleveland Browns prior to themove) staff for six years.

    Ferentz was named head coach of the Maine Bears in 1990and held that position for three years. Ferentz was a memberof Hayden Frys Iowa staff for nine years as offensive linecoach (1981-89). He coordinated Iowas running game duringhis rst coaching stint at Iowa. Iowa appeared in eight bowlgames during the time Ferentz was an Iowa assistant.

    Ferentz was born in Royal Oak, MI, and attended high schoolin Pittsburgh, PA. Kirk earned his bachelors degree in EnglishEducation from the University of Connecticut in 1978, wherehe was a football captain. Kirk received the DistinguishedAlumnus Award from the Neag School of Education at theUniversity of Connecticut in May, 2009. He was inducted intothe Upper St. Clair High School Hall of Fame in September,2002 and the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hallof Fame in May, 2003.

    QB Ricky Stanzi has completed 210-324 passes for 2,804 yards and 25 touch-downs. His totals rank third in scoring passes, sixth in yardage, seventh in comple-tions and eighth in attempts. His current ef ciency rating of 160.5 would rank asbest in school history.

    WR Marvin McNutt, Jr., ranks 14th in receiving yards (798) and Derrell Johnson-Koulianos ranks 19th (645). Johnson-Koulianos is tied for second in scoring re-ceptions (10) and McNutt, Jr., is tied for seventh (eight). Johnson-Koulianos andRobinson each have 66 points, which ties for 25th best, while freshman PK MikeMeyer is tied for 33rd in scoring with 64 points.

    IOWA CAREER LEADERSSenior QB Ricky Stanzi is among Iowas career leaders in several categories,

    including third in passing touchdowns (56) and passing yards (7,177) and totaloffense (7,164), fourth in completions (531) and attempts (886).

    Senior WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos is Iowas career leader in receptions (173)and receiving yards (2,616). He is third in touchdown receptions (17) and fth inall-purpose yards (4,231). He is tied for 22nd in scoring with 114 career points.

    Junior WR Marvin McNutt, Jr., is tied for fourth in career touchdown receptions(16) and is 17th in receiving yards (1,483).

    Sophomore RB Adam Robinson has led Iowas rushing attack in each of the pasttwo seasons. His total of 1,775 yards ranks 13th on Iowas career chart.

    In career interceptions, junior Tyler Sash ranks fth with 13 and senior BrettGreenwood is tied for seventh with 11. Sash already holds the Iowa record forinterception return yards (392).

    Freshman Mike Meyer was named Big Ten Conference Special Teams Playerof the Week after connecting on 4-5 eld goal attempts in Iowas 18-13 win atIndiana. He connected from 23, 27, 27 and 42 yards in the win. The 42-yardkick is the longest of his career. He shared the national honor of Kickoff Per-former of the Week when all four of his kicks were touchbacks at Northwestern.

    He earned honorable mention recognition for his play in Iowas 35-7 win overIowa State, averaging 68.3 yards on six kicks, with three touchbacks. Senior punter Ryan Donahue was named national Punter of the Week by the

    College Football Performance Awards after averaging 60.5 yards on two puntsvs. Wisconsin. He earned honorable mention recognition after averaging 42.9yards on seven punts at Northwestern. He was recognized following Iowascontest at Minnesota, in which he averaged 47.5 yards on four punts, includinga best of 61 yards.

    Junior DB Shaun Prater was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week fol-lowing Iowas 37-6 win over fth-ranked Michigan State. Prater collected acareer-high 10 tackles and had an interception and 42 yard return vs. the Spartans.Iowa held MSU to 31 net rushing yards and one touchdown. The Big Ten honoris the rst for Prater.

    Senior QB Ricky Stanzi was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week fol-lowing Iowas 38-28 win at Michigan. Stanzi completed 17-24 passes for 248yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions.

    Senior DE Adrian Clayborn was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following Iowas 24-3 win over Penn State Oct. 2. Clayborn collected 10 tacklesin the win, including a quarterback sack for minus 15 yards and three tackles forloss. Iowa held Penn State to 54 net rushing yards and just three points. TheBig Ten honor is the third for Clayborn. He earned the recognition for specialteams in Iowas 2009 win at Penn State and he was defensive Player of the Week in Iowas 2009 win at Michigan State. Clayborn earned honorable mentionrecognition for his position from the College Football Performance Awards forhis play against Penn State as well.

    Junior DL Mike Daniels was named Big Ten Conference co-Defensive Playerof the Week for his play in Iowas 45-0 win over Ball State. Daniels recordedcareer bests in tackles and tackles for loss in Iowas shutout victory over BallState. Daniels had four solo tackles and two assists, including four tackles forloss (-20) and one QB sack (-7). The Hawkeye defense held Ball State to just112 yards total offense (56 rushing, 56 passing). The Big Ten Player of the Week honor is the rst for Daniels, who was also named national defensive Performerof the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.

    Senior RB Paki OMeara was named Big Ten Conference Special Teams Playerof the Week for his play in Iowas 37-7 win over Eastern Illinois. OMearablocked an Eastern Illinois punt in the rst period and returned the block for a42-yard touchdown. His score gave Iowa a 21-0 advantage. He also had fourrushing attempts for 34 yards in the second half in earning his rst Big TenPlayer of the Week honor.

    Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk SeriesThe Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series is in its seventh season in2010-11. The series is tied 3-3 in the in-state competi-tion against Iowa State that began in 2004-05. IowaState captured the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series a year agoby a 16-11 margin.

    Iowa State holds a 6-5 advantage to date. Iowa de-feated ISU in football and womens soccer and lostin volleyball and mens and womens cross country.

    Last season, Iowa captured victories in football,womens soccer, wrestling, womens gymnastics andwomens tennis. The Cyclones recorded wins in vol-leyball, mens and womens cross country, mens andwomens basketball, womens swimming and diving,womens gymnastics and softball.

    Iowa captured the inaugural Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series(13-8) in 2004-05 and won again in 2006-07 (13-8)and 2008-09 (21-4). Iowa State won the competitionin 2005-06 (13-8) and 2007-08 (18-9) and 2009-10(16-11).

    The 12-event series awards two points (except foot-ball, which is worth three) to the winning school ineach head-to-head match-up between the two insti-tutions. Additionally, two points are awarded to aninstitution if the graduation rate of its student-athletesis greater than the national average as reported eachfall by the NCAA.

    A commemorative Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series Cup,

    which stands 31 inches tall and weighs 19 pounds, isdisplayed on the winning teams campus for an entireyear after a victory. Replica cups are also presentedas traveling trophies for individual victorious teamsin the head-to-head competition.

    Sophomore RB Adam Robinson earned honorable mention recognition from theCollege Football Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over IowaState. Robinson rushed for a career-best 156 yards on 14 carries and scoredon a 39-yard run. Robinson also had a 75-yard run to set up another Hawkeyetouchdown and surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards.

    Senior TE Allen Reisner earned honorable mention recognition from the CollegeFootball Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over Iowa Stateand the 21-17 loss at Northwestern. Reisner had three receptions for 66 yardsand a touchdown vs. Iowa State. His two-yard scoring reception gave Iowa a21-0 advantage in the second period and his 55-yard catch, the longest of hiscareer, led to Iowas nal score. He added 66 receiving yards on six receptionsat Northwestern.

    Sophomore DB Micah Hyde earned honorable mention recognition from theCollege Football Performance Awards for his defensive back eld play in Iowas37-6 win over fth-ranked Michigan State. Hyde had ve tackles and a 66-yardreturn for a touchdown.

    Junior TE Brad Herman earned honorable mention recognition from the CollegeFootball Performance Award for his play in Iowas 37-6 win over fth-rankedMichigan State. Herman had three receptions for 80 yards, matching his career-high in catches and reaching a career-best in receiving yards.

    IOWA TOUGH ON DEFENSEIowa ranks seventh nationally in scoring defense (16.4), eighth in rushing defense

    (103.5), 15th in total defense (317.1) and 18th in pass ef ciency defense (112.46).The Iowa defense was the last unit in the nation to allow a rushing touchdown thisseason, that coming in Iowas sixth game.

    The Hawkeyes are seventh in the nation in turnover margin (+1.1) and tied forninth with 17 pass interceptions.

    Six Iowa opponents have scored one touchdown or less, including two whoscored no touchdowns.

    Iowa has allowed only one 100-yard rusher this season (Michigan QB DenardRobinson). Iowa also allowed just one player to rush for 100 yards or more inboth 2009 and 2008.

    IOWA EFFICIENT ON OFFENSEIowa ranks ninth in the nation in pass ef ciency (158.38) and the Hawkeyes are

    49th in scoring offense (29.1). The Hawkeyes are 46th in passing offense (237.4),61st in total offense (379.4) and 78th in rushing offense (142.0). Iowa scored 30 ormore points in three consecutive Big Ten Conference games (Michigan, Wisconsin,

    Michigan State) for the rst time since 2005.Iowa has been guilty of just nine turnovers (three lost fumbles, four interceptions),which ties Wisconsin as the fewest in the nation. Iowa lost just two fumbles ineight Big Ten games, both in the season nale at Minnesota.

    The Hawkeyes are also seventh in fewest penalty yards per game (38.9) and tiedfor 19th in fewest penalties per game (5.1).

    On special teams, Iowa ranks eighth in the nation in punt return defense (4.2average on 20 returns) and 15th in KO returns (24.7).

    POSITIVE TURNOVER RATIOIowa is third in the Big Ten and seventh nationally with a plus 1.1 turnover ratio.

    Iowa has been guilty of just nine turnovers in 12 games, including just ve turn-overs in eight Big Ten games. The nine turnovers tie as the fewest in the nation(Wisconsin).

    Iowas opponents have had 131 possessions, and just seven have started in Iowaterritory. Arizona and Minnesota had two possessions start in Iowa territory andIowa State, Northwestern and Ohio State started one possession on Iowas end of the eld.

    INJURY SETBACKSIowa sophomore running back Jewel Hampton and junior linebacker Bruce Davis

    suffered season-ending knee injuries during Iowas 34-27 loss at Arizona in week three. Both had surgery to repair the damage. Hampton rushed 91 times for 463yards and seven touchdowns as a freshman in 2008 before missing 2009 due toinjury. He rushed 20 times for 84 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State andhad a four-yard touchdown reception at Arizona prior to his season-ending injury.

    LB Jeff Tarpinian missed Iowas opening game and games vs. Michigan andWisconsin before returning to limited action vs. Michigan State and Indiana. Hedid not start vs. Penn State and was limited to just a few plays on defense. Tar-pinian led Iowa in tackles through ve games and returned to the starting line-upat Northwestern before missing Iowas nal two games. Senior FB Brett Morsedid not play at Michigan, ending his starting streak at 18 consecutive starts, butreturned vs. Wisconsin.

    RB Adam Robinson, Iowas leading rusher, and OL Adam Gettis, did not play atIndiana and both missed the Minnesota game. Gettis also missed the Northwesternand Ohio State games.

    Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker underwent a medical procedure in lateSeptember and missed seven games. While he has not returned to the practice eld, Parker attended Iowas home win over Michigan State but did not travel toIndiana. He did work from the press box for Iowas nal three games.

    IOWA FALLS AT MINNESOTAMinnesota scored the winning touchdown on a six-yard run by Duane Bennett

    with 4:31 remaining in the game to take a 27-24 win over Iowa and gain possessionof Floyd of Rosedale for the rst time since 2006. The game marked Iowas rstvisit to TCF Bank Stadium. Temperature at game time was 23 degrees for Iowas rst outdoor game at Minnesota since 1980.

    After trailing throughout most of the contest, Iowa took the lead with 11:35 re-maining on an 18-yard pass from QB Ricky Stanzi to WR Marvin McNutt, Jr. The

    score concluded an eight play, 70-yard drive for the Hawkeyes, who had gainedpossession on a fumble recovery by DB Brett Greenwood. The fumble, Minnesotasonly turnover of the game, was caused by DE Broderick Binns.

    Minnesota controlled the opening quarter of action, winning the toss and electingto start the game on offense. The Gopher drove 58 yards and took a 3-0 advantageon a 26-yard Eric Ellestad eld goal. Minnesota followed the score with a success-ful onside kick. The Gophers ended their second drive with a 14-yard touchdownrun by QB MarQueis Gray, putting Iowa behind 10-0 before the Hawkeye offenseran a play.

    Iowa responded with a scoring drive of 70 yards for its rst score, as Stanzi con-nected with WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos on a seven-yard touchdown pass tocut the de cit to 10-7.

    Minnesota took advantage of an Iowa fumble to drive just 23 yards for its nextscore, an 11-yard run by DeLeon Eskridge. The lost fumble was just the fourth of the season for Iowa and the rst in eight Big Ten games.

    Iowa came right back, as Johnson-Koulianos returned the kickoff 88-yards for ascore to again trim the de cit to three points. The return ties as the 13th longestin school history.

    Each team added a eld goal later in the secondperiod, with Iowas Mike Meyer connectingfrom 35 yards in the nal minute of the rst half.

    Neither team was able to score in the third pe-riod, where some outstanding punting by seniorRyan Donahue kept Minnesota out of scoringposition. Greenwoods fumble recovery stoppeda Minnesota drive at the Hawkeye 30-yard linelate in the third period.

    Trailing for the rst time early in the fourthperiod, Minnesota responded by covering 77yards in just six plays. The Gophers had passcompletions of 19 and 40 yards on the rst two plays of the drive before Bennettadded the touchdown run for the nal points of the game.

    Iowas last possession ended with a lost fumble at the Iowa 45-yard line with4:14 remaining, and Minnesota was able to maintain possession for the remainderof the contest.

    Freshman RB Marcus Coker led Iowas rushing game with 90 yards on 21 carries.Stanzi completed 10-22 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, as McNutt, Jr.(3-46) and Johnson-Koulianos (3-34) each had a touchdown reception.

    HAWKEYES RANK HIGH IN GRADUATION RATESThe Iowa Hawkeyes were among the nations leaders in academic

    success for college football teams that competed in bowl games fol-lowing the 2008 season.

    Iowa ranked 16th in graduation rate for its football student-athletes,according to data collected by the NCAA among the 68 college foot-ball teams that participated in the 34 college football bowl games.

    Iowas graduation rate of 75% ranked third among teams that ap-peared in the 2008 nal top 25 rankings.

    Iowas most current GSR of 79%, released in late October,ranks third among teams currently ranked in the BCS top 25and is 12 percentage points higher than the national average.

    A year ago, Iowas GSR of 74% ranked second among the 10teans that competed in 2010 BCS bowl games.

    The graduation rate for Iowas 2009 nationally ranked footballprogram was 67 percent for the second consecutive year. Thenational average was 55 percent.

    THREE HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS

    In 2008, three Iowa players were named to the ESPN The Magazine/ CoSIDA District Seven rst all-academic team.Under Kirk Ferentz in the last 12 years, 17 Hawkeye players have

    FRESHMEN MADE MARK AT INDIANAIowa has used nine true freshmen this season and that group

    made its mark in Iowas 18-13 win at Indiana. James Morrisstarted at middle linebacker and recorded nine tackles and two

    pass break-ups. Playing mostly on special teams, the groupof Anthony Hitchens, Don Shumpert, Christian Kirksey andTanner Miller combined to record six tackles. Mike Meyermade 4-5 eld goal attempts and added two tackles on kick coverage. TE C.J. Fiedorowicz added a four-yard kickoff return.

    QB Ricky Stanzi improved to 3-0 as a starting quarterback against the Nittany Lions. Stanzi is the only opposing quar-terback to ever start three games against Penn State and leadhis team to wins in all three games. Iowa won 24-23 in 2008on a last second eld and won 21-10 a year ago at Penn State.Stanzi played every offensive down in all three wins.

    Stanzi has led Iowa to a 25-9 record as the starting quarter-back, which ranks second all-time among Iowa signal callersin career victories.
