The week before last marked our three-year anniversary as a host church! We hosted four families for a total of five adults and children. Managing the needs and the comings and goings of this size group can be difficult, but with the help of the many volun-teers that step in to assist in various ways it becomes much easier. Those who pitched in to make a difference this this time were:

Overnight Volunteers Jimmy & Janet Tucker, Gretchen Fox, Bill Cline, John Ramsperger, Ruth Price, Ron & Carol Huber, Elaine Stoner, Brenda Gunn, Da-vid, Kathy & Willow Jones, and Curt and Lura Burns.

Saturday Daytime Volunteers Dennis Fairchild and Frances Herron.

Transportation Mike Lilly, Mike Handy, Jimmy Tucker and Tracy Cheatham.

Sunday School Classes that provided meals & groceries Harriet Pickard, Baraca, Fidelis and Hosanna.

Set Up and Take Down Ron Huber, Jim Turner, Bill Whiteman, Harry Wilkerson. and Jim-my Tucker.

Last but not least is Deb Egbert who arranged the meals with Sunday Classes and Jonesboro Baptist Church for providing the meals for Thursday and Friday nights. Without the support of these people and the many others who have volunteered in the past, contributed financially and have prayed for this program we could not continue. Many, many thanks to you all! Yours In Christ, Janet Tucker

Something Dr Jeff said yesterday stuck in my mind as I went through the day: We are better together than one of us is alone. I was reminded of an old movie The Greatest Game Ever Played which is based on a true story about a golfer. In the movie, Francis Quimet wins the US Open in 1913 with a fifth grade caddie named Eddie. Francis sinks the playoff winning putt on the 18th hole, and yells We did it! Although he had played the round of his life, he knew that the help and encouragement of his caddie, Eddie, had played a major part in his win. How about you? Would you have said We did it or I did it! Usually winning is all about me, which is very apparent if you watch any sporting event these days. Sadly, most of the focus is on the star player and not those who helped get him there. Most sporting events have it all wrong! In a team effort, the focus ought to be on us and not me. As Christians, and as a church, our focus ought to be on being on a team that is a we instead of me. We should be able to say we did it! A beautiful example of this is our new Community Bible Studies. Together, we are studying Gods Word to see how we can step out of the boat. Another example we were reminded of this past Sunday about working

together is our Deacon ministry. God can use us the best when we are not all about me. So what will it be for you? We or me? In Christ, Cindy

Summer is officially over. Did you relax? Are you refreshed and ready for a different schedule? More and more I am convinced that leisure time is a mirage. Our pace of life is ridiculous! All of us confront countless demands upon our time and attention. Life has never been so complex!

Were funny people. Well find our value and self-worth in so many places: in our jobs, our income, our education, our social standing, our dating or marital status, our church involvement, or anything else that will bolster our esteem.

In the Christian life, there is work to do. But it isnt intended to be impressive. It isnt intended to land us somewhere in a sort of Religious Hall of Fame. It isnt intended to be anything that brings focus or attention upon us.

When weve got so much going on in life, when voices all around us clamor for our attention, its easy to lose focus. We can forget why were here and what were living for. We end up charging off in all directions at once, and arriving at none of them.

Paul is absorbed with simply knowing Christ and the righteousness that comes only from him. He wants his whole life to be enfolded within the entirety of Jesus identity within him (Philippians 3:10-11). Our value is not determined by all the many good things that we do. We are the value of Christ in us immeasurable, irreplaceable, and irresistible. So heres the antidote to such a scattered and unproductive existence: make knowing Christ better your primary purpose in life.

    Blessings,

    Jeff

What a wonderful service of ordination Sunday! I was thinking about the three ordained during the Laying on of Hands and what came to mind was what tremendous potential lies in these three. And for that matter, it is certainly not limited to those three. It is true of all our deacons. The other thing I loved about the service was all the participation by our active deacons: readings, prayers, testimonies all woven together by the deacon body. Triple L - We have 22 signed up for our fall trip to Virginia. Looking forward to an awesome time together as we see some wonderful sights and grow together in the Lord!

Greetings from your new WMU Director - Barb Blanchard This is my first communication as your WMU Director. Thank you for your confidence, support, and patience as I learn the ropes in this very big job. Our members are doing an amazing job reaching out to our community and all over the world with the love of Christespecially with local outreach. Here at FBC we have, at minimum, monthly opportunities for each of us to donate or participate in giving in His name. We use the newsletter as one way to communi-cate those opportunities to you each month. Thank you for your Back Pack donations this month. When they are not in school many of the kids would not eat without the food items donated. Did you know this program provides food for approximately 350 kids each weekend? For additional information: www.cisleecounty.org. Thank You for caring, Thank You for the donations, and THANK YOU for your prayers for the kids, their parents, teachers, and anyone that may be a light in their world.

On Saturday Novem-ber 1st, the Youth will again be hosting a Thanksgiving Banquet for hungry people in our

community. Last year we had very good attend-ance, and I think that everyone had a great time. To pull this off, we need your help! There are three big needs: 1. People to donate turkeys as we get closer to the event. 2. People to carve turkeys...we don't want any youth to lose a finger. 3. People to drive and pick up shut ins and people from the community who need a ride. This would be a great opportunity for you (and your family) to minister and show God's love to people in our community, as well as to spend time getting to know and do ministry with a great group of students.
