My fi rst thought whenever someone asks why I wanted to direct Spamalot is: “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!” But there is one main reason; I’m a Python tragic from childhood and I loved the show when I saw it on Broadway in 2005. Ok, there are 2 reasons why; I’m a Python tragic from childhood, I loved the show when I saw it on Broadway in 2005 and my favourite was always the Holy Grail. Right, there are 3 reasons . . .

Anyway, before they bring on the comfy chair I’ll get to the point. If, like me, you are a huge fan of the original, you will see most of your favourite scenes and characters. However, some bits have been left out – the whole “she’s a witch, burn her” unfortunately ended up on the fl oor, but, with a few added bits from the pen of Eric Idle and quite a few new songs, I’m sure you’ll love the fi nished result.

If this is your fi rst excursion into the realm of silliness that is all things Python, I’m sure we’ll be creating a new fan.

I wanted to bring a whole new experience to the Civic Centre: This performance is mostly “in the round”. You will need to keep your eyes open and your neck fl exible – where will the next scene be played? And like the original Python shows, the main action is not always where the humour lies. So, leave your logic and common sense in the foyer and relax and enjoy Spamalot the Musical.

Director Linda Gefken has been having fun with theatre on

the Sunshine Coast for 5 years now. Her debut as a Director of Musicals at Coolum with Urinetown was a fun taste of things to come, leading on to sell-out performances of Sweet Charity, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Addams Family Musical. She is also a director of plays, recently preparing Tinder Surprise for the One

Act Play Festival (by Sherelle Scott, one of our cast) and her production of Sylvia was well received (despite the swearing).

When not faffi ng about on or in front of the stage, Linda loves spending time with her dog, her friends and riding her motorbike, and works from home as a vocal, instrumental and theatre tutor. (Hit her up for some lessons, she needs the money.)

Sean McDermott – King ArthurSean discovered the Monty Python fi lms in his teens and has been a fan ever since. So, when he found out Coolum were auditioning for Spamalot, he jumped at the chance. Sean fi rst appeared at Coolum as Buttons in Cinderella in 2010 followed by Jimmy in The Young Ones (musical) a year later. He’s had the good fortune to play leading roles in some of his favourite musicals – Blood Brothers, Return To The Forbidden Planet and Mary Poppins, all at Noosa Arts Theatre, and is delighted to be playing King Arthur, the proud monarch of England.

Michelle (Shelley) Hansen The Lady of the Lake and Ensemble

Michelle is a local talent, born and raised on the Sunshine Coast. She’s always had a passion for singing and made her theatre debut in 2012 in Coolum’s production of Urinetown, followed by Sweet Charity and The Addams Family. Other shows include Side by Side by Sondheim and West Side Story with Noosa Arts and Blitz with Caloundra Chorale. Michelle’s excited to join the cast of Spamalot on their quest to fi nd the grail and hopes that in keeping her eyes on the goal she will continue performing for years to come.

Femke Palmer van der Kallen Patsy

Femke was born and raised in Eindhoven, Holland. From a young age she per-formed in many local theatre shows. She continued singing and dancing lessons throughout her childhood, directed chil-dren’s plays in her community and studied musical theatre. At 18, Femke left Holland to travel. Years passed and she ended up living here on the Coast with her Austra-lian partner, now husband. She picked up her love of theatre again, performing in Noosa Arts Side by Side by Sondheim and as Nancy in Oliver, as well as an ancestor in Coolum’s The Addams Family last year.

Sarah Ashley – The Mayor, The Black Knight, Concord and Ensemble

Sarah grew up on the North-west coast of Tasmania and had singing lessons from a young age and has been dancing since the age of 6. She had a lead role in Jungle Fantasy while in High School then another lead in the musical Fame at College. Chosen to represent the state in a National Acting Development Workshop in the Northern Territory in 2002, Sarah had the privilege of working with actor Anita Hegh and television director Jean-Pierre. On the Coast, Sarah was in Coolum’s The Addams Family and Noosa Arts Oliver.

Liam LinaneSir Lancelot and Ensemble

Liam has never performed on stage before but is truly relishing the chance to be able to get up and shine like the brilliant sun beam his mother always told him he was! Originally from Ballarat where he did all his schooling, Liam only moved to Coolum in February. Seeing the Spamalot sign at the Coolum Bowls Club he decided to give auditions a shot. The rest is history; arise, Sir Lancelot.

Sheila OliverSir Bedevere and Ensemble

The Secret Story Of Cinderella And Her Fabulously Fashionable Foot Wear [Harvest Rain] at QPAC in 2010 was Sheila’s fi rst production after a 25 year hiatus in which she played the Queen, Prince Charming’s rather dotty mother! Picnic At Hanging Rock [Brisbane Arts] directed by Carol Burns followed. In July 2016 Agatha Christie called so a brief interlude in Melbourne ensued! And then there were none [Malvern Theatre Company]Alice In Wonderland [Little Seed & Coolum Theatre], Cinderella [Noosa Arts], NightMust Fall & Deckchairs [BATS] are just the beginning of theatrical life on the coast for this old chook!

Adam AdraSir Galahad, Dennis and Ensemble

After getting a C minus for his high school performance of Springtime for Hitler from the musical The Producers, Adam swore a solemn oath to redeem himself and perform in a Broadway musical. Taking it one step at a time, Adam is making his theatrical debut at the Coolum Civic Centre in Çoolum Theatre Players production of Spamalot. Excited to prove his year eleven music teacher wrong, he will be singing, dancing and acting all at once. Look at me now Mr B!

Putting musicals aside, she joined a drama group and performed at the ‘Everyman Theatre’, Liverpool. Lisa took a 10 year gap, travelling and volunteering with animals. Settling on the Sunshine Coast, she got back into musical theatre at Noosa Arts in Oliver and now she’s hooked and ready to concentrate on progressing as an actress.Sean McBride – Dennis’ Mother, King

of Swamp Castle and EnsembleFrom an early age Sean developed a natural aptitude for the stage and over the course of 16 years in New Zealand, he was cast, and able to play a veritable “who’s that” in many of the 20th century’s great musicals. Having taken a near 13 year break from theatre, Sean returned to the stage as Theseus in Noosa Arts 2011 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, John Northbrook and The Park Keeper in Mary Poppins, Dudley in Dead Loss, and Mr Bumble earlier this year in Oliver. Colin Donnelly - The French Taunter, The Wizard Tim and Ensemble

After 20 years fooling the military into thinking he was a soldier, acting was a natural progression. Colin fi rst appeared on Coolum’s stage in Annie Get your Gun 2004, then A Message for Magda, The Great Pretenders (one and two), HMS Pinafore, and Rocky Horror (as Rocky). Having spent six years in Sydney working as a professional actor and extra, he returned to the Coast a few years ago. He’s been a Monty Python fan since he was nineteen, so he’s excited to be involved in this special brand of silliness with yet another fabulous cast and crew at Coolum.

Sherelle Scott The Historian and Ensemble

After recently starring as dying Old Sal in Noosa Arts Oliver, Sherelle is excited about the prospect of playing a character that is very much alive – The Historian. Her foray into the theatre started at Coolum as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland in 2015 with Little Seed Theatre Company. She has gone on to play various roles in Mary Poppins and the One Act Plays in 2016. Most recently, Sherelle’s play, Tinder Surprise was performed by Coolum Theatre Players and entered into the Sunshine Coast Theatre Festival 2017.

Lachlan Money – The Knight who says Ni and Ensemble

Sunshine Coast born and raised, Lachlan has played roles ranging from children’s pantomimes to historic dramas and musicals. Working primarily between Coolum Theatre Players and BATS Theatre Company productions, some of Lachlan’s favourite character roles have been Harry the miller’s son in Puss in Boots, Oscar Lindquist the claustrophobic tax accountant in Sweet Charity, Prince Charming in Cinderella and Brad, the all-American hero in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, an ancestral sailor in The Addams Family and now the Knight of Ni, alongside a stellar cast. Jacob Shannon - Ensemble

Unexpected knee surgery prevented Jacob appearing as the Conquistador in Coolum’s The Addams Family. Previously on the Coast, Jacob performed in Keeping Down With The Joneses, and All for One…and Everyone for Himself at The Lind. He starred in Sweet Fanny Adams, appeared in Summer Wonderland and Red Riding Hood at BATS earlier this year. He’s enjoying working alongside many new faces as well as the great music and ideas from director Linda Gefken, the wonderful work done behind the scenes and the talented cast in this show.

Nikki Wilson-Yapp - EnsembleNikki’s fi rst show with Coolum in 2012 was Urinetown playing Little Sally, followed by a role in the one act play Last Seen Entering, then the musicals Adrift in Macao, Sweet Charity, Rocky Horror Picture Show, played Pugsley, an energetic monster of a boy in The Addams Family last year, and entered the Theatre Festival in Tinder Surprise late August . Nikki makes up the Ensemble in this show.

Isabel Smith - EnsembleIsabel has always loved musical theatre, with her favourites being The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Grease. It was a dream come true in 2015 when she got the role of one of the Transylvanians in Coolum Theatre Players highly successful production of Rocky Horror. Prior to this, her stage debut was in the chorus of Coolum’s hit show, Sweet Charity followed by The Addams Family. She’s excited to be back on this stage again, performing with the all singing-all dancing Ensemble.

Vic Alexander - EnsembleVic is a Year 11 student at Good Shepherd Lutheran College. He did not give a stellar performance as Captain Hook in Little Seed’s production of Peter Pan. He was not Joey Primo in Good Shepherd’s Senior School Musical, was not Dandini in Noosa Arts Theatre’s Cinderella, nor the Town Crier in Coolum Theatre’s recent Beauty and the Beast. That was his twin brother! But he is a Monty Python tragic and thought he would be good in this fantastic production!

Gareth Puckeridge – Ensemble Gareth made his stage debut singing and tapping in 1999 in the Australian amateur premiere of Crazy For You and went on to appear in My Fair Lady before expanding into stage production and make up artistry. He returned to the stage in 2006 when he joined Coolum Theatre Players cast of The Great Pretenders The Sequel and has made several appearances in Ensembles with them, since.

-9-

Sharron Benett - EnsembleSharron commenced with tap, ballet and toe at the Tivoli Theatre studio in Sydney, aged 5. She won a scholarship to the Australian Ballet School, performed with the Australian Opera Company, toured J C Williamson productions around Australia, then as part of the permanent ballet at South Sydney Leagues Club in 70’s hay-days of Clubs. Moving with her husband John to Coolum in 2013, she joined CTP’s Sweet Charity ensemble and Cool Harmonies choir. She was thrilled to be an Addams family ancestor and now part of Spamalot’s ensemble.

Sarah Reilly - EnsembleSarah has been singing for many years of her life - mostly in school choirs, rock bands and duos. Recently moving from Adelaide to the lovely Sunshine Coast, she decided to step out of her comfort zone for once and do things she really wanted to do. So she started up vocal training again, began burlesque dance lessons and auditioned for Spamalot, her fi rst musical since high school! Sarah is absolutely loving every moment of this theatrical experience with her new-found community theatre.
