Board Reports President’s Report - Submitted President: Chris Wooley a) Personal Life - What is going on in my family, personal, health? I'm also blocking off more time on the calendar to accomplish personal goals, too. I'm looking forward to having a scheduled time that I can use to better myself (mentally and physically). b) Studio Life - What is happening in my studio? This year is off to a great start. Rachel has joined the studio full time. We did an office remodel to accommodate the dual workspaces and get a bit more organized. Lucky for me, Rachel is a whiz at keeping stuff organized and is already making things more efficient. We are gearing up with a new marketing plan and strategic vision for 2019 (and beyond). c) District or PPW responsibilities - What is happening? Conference planning is in full swing. Lorie, Bruce, and Faye have been working their butts off to make this year's conference one to remember. I'm excited to see all their hard work come to life. The ocean doesn't hurt my feelings one bit, either. I'm also excited for all the new reps - and activity we have going on this year. It is nice to see PPW with some fresh blood and new vigor. d) In what area(s) do I need help, mentoring, or support? Filling out forms. e) What is one goal I have for my district/job for this year? Help get conference up and alive! e) Tell us how you have done in completing your quarterly goals. Planning and coordination is in full swing! See you at the conference!!! Past President’s Report –Submitted Past Pres: Heidi Swoboda a) Personal Life - What is going on in my family, personal, health? We are immersed in Nordic ski races. Heading to Utah Wednesday so Rory can compete in Junior National qualifier race at Soldier Hollow where the Olympians ski. And juggling to lead a 4-H horse club that now has 18 horse riding kids in it. Yikes. b) Studio Life - What is happening in my studio? Slowing down a bit after the holidays. Finished with winter sports photos. Working to complete Senior photo orders this month. And trying like crazy to create some competition prints. At least, thinking about trying to create competition prints. Starting some digital painting projects also. And just agreed to again be the runway photographer for the 7th annual Leavenworth Mountain Film Festival April 5th and 6th. I highly recommend checking out this fun and inspiring event if you’re in the Leavenworth area. Also want to publicly thank PPA for their wonderful service when I had a drive fail this year. They were fantastic and offered assistance before I even thought to ask for it. c) District or PPW responsibilities - What is happening. I am putting together district rep information kits for incoming district reps to be given out at the Spring Board meeting. The purpose is both to welcome them, thank them for their service and to make them aware of the resources available to them. I haven’t technically asked if this is ok, so please let me know if someone else is planning something similar and we’ll coordinate. Also planning to contact some past presidents (as well as current President) to discuss the past president breakfast for conference. Should have more to report by the meeting time.

Council Elections, which occur every three years, were held in 2018. The councilors for Washington State are Marie Martineau-Sandberg, Faye Johnson, Chris Wooley, and myself. We are all honored and excited to be able to serve a term on the industries’ most prestigious council. Washington State is also blessed with a permanent representative with now outgoing Board Chairman Robert Behm. His term ends in 2019, yet as a past president he holds a permanent seat in the Council. Many various highly exciting things are happening thanks to the hard work of the staff, committees, and board of P.P.A.. Here is a quick synopsis all that is happening:

1. Certified Professional Photographers: 2018 ended with just under 2000 active CPPs, and another 1400 candidates in process. A new image review process is being enacted in 2019. Rather than candidates submitting images showing specific skills using their own working images, the candidates will now be required to submit the same 3 images created with a pre-arranged kit and set-up guide. These three images will demonstrate the candidate’s ability to understand and apply the information required to be a CPP. Two classes in CPP preparation will be taught at Imaging USA this year, and the exam will be offered three days of the conference. Drone Certification: 11 new certified Drone photographers were welcomed in 2018.

2. Copyright Act Update: The CASE Act continues to work through the process in Washington DC. Currently there are 16 co-sponsors of the bill. Large tech companies attempted to derail the Act but thanks to a Congressional Hearing in which PPA played a major role the Bill is moving forward and will hopefully be presented in both the House and Senate in 2019.

3. “Bridging the Gap” Program: This year’s educational push is to “Bridge the ever-growing Gap” between photographers and their consumers. There will be two separate keynote speeches, and 11 individual classes being presented on this track at Imaging USA.

4. Photovision: The Photovision program is in the process of being “sunsetted” into the PPA Edu program. 2019 will see a complete merging for members.

5. PPA.Com Website: The website has undergone a complete rebuild. The experience is much more member friendly and easy to navigate.

Master of Wedding Photography: It has become very evident to the board and IPC committee that images of weddings overall do very poorly at competition. That said, it is very hard for a wedding photographer to turn in “meritable work” of actual weddings as the act of photographing most weddings does not equate to merit level images. It will be brought before council to possibly pass an entirely new “Master of Wedding Photography” degree which will allow for wedding photographers to reach the level of master on a more equitable playing field.

District Representatives Reports

Southwest District Rep #1: Submitted Jon Sandberg a) Personal Life – We are hanging in there, Marie is still undergoing chemo every two weeks and that situation is stable at present and hopefully continues. b) Studio Life – Have been fairly busy since the middle of November with two days of Santa, youth basketball at JBLM and several new and returning clients for family and senior portraits. c) District or PPW responsibilities – With the holidays and new year a lot has been on hold and upcoming Imaging USA perhaps get some new ideas to bring back. d) In what area(s) do I need help, mentoring, or support? We need help in getting new members. There are a lot of photo takers, some have skills and others need a lot of help. Those that are in need of help are getting paid while turning out a sub standard product, which reflects on all others. (How many of us are ending up redoing senior packages because the “cheaper” choice gave them their monies worth). These new faces may seem like a threat (both ways) but we can all relate to competition as stepping up the game and most of all having that someone you can call on when life happens to fill in or have that photoshop problem that won’t go away and the answer isn’t on YouTube. If someone sees an ad or a photo club, reach out and invite them to a meeting or spend some time with them. e) What is one goal I have for my district/job for this year? Increase member numbers and get some useful training. e) Tell us how you have done in completing your quarterly goals. I came in to the position late to get things rolling at the beginning of crazy time. We are going to Imaging and hopefully bring back some information that will impact the upcoming PPW functions in the next few months. Looking at a meeting date in late February to have some educational points. Southwest District Rep #2: - Vacant Vacant Northwest District Rep #1 and 2:-Submitted Bruce & Josh Hudson a) Personal Life - What is going on in my family, personal, health? Josh: Family is great, the twins turned 7 on the 26th and Natalie gets her driver’s license in February. Bruce: I had a great holiday season and I am working towards becoming a Master Traeger Smoker with my Christmas gift from Terri! b) Studio Life - What is happening in my studio? We had a pretty epic 3rd and 4th quarter, things have slowed a bit but we are working several different marketing campaigns which is helping. We are also applying to be speakers at Imaging next year, fingers crossed! c) District or PPW responsibilities - What is happening? We are working hard on the marketing for the conference and the judging at our studio. d) In what area(s) do I need help, mentoring, or support? Just more hours in a day, LOL! e) What is one goal I have for my district/job for this year? Schedule something in the Spring and an

event this summer, a BBQ maybe f) Tell us how you have done in completing your quarterly goals. Our goal was to have events every other month last year, we accomplished it by having 3 events. All 3 were well attended. Central District Rep #1:–Submitted Lynette Smith a) Personal Life - What is going on in my family, personal, health? We lost one of our dogs in October, and that was brutally devastating. (Don’t leave your dogs home alone, unattended with collars on – the results can be deadly). I’ve become an advocate for dog collar safety and education. It was a difficult loss, and will take a long time to recover from. My black lab, is my registered legal service dog for PTSD. She goes most places with me these days. She helps a great deal. (She won’t be at our board meeting). Health is good. Mom’s health is good. Skyrah my black lab has healed nicely from the accident. Overall, we’re in good spirits. We just adopted a chocolate lab who was abandoned after being hit by a car by his owners, and he’s fitting in really nicely with our family. Education Chair – Submitted Education Chair: Julie Fitzpatrick We have had no education event since the Fall Education Seminar. I have been having problems scheduling events, trying to find members/educators to teach a class but what is more of a problem ……. having our members attend. I need something new and exciting!!! I need some help and ideas. What about having a 5 minute classes on something photography related. Maybe using something like You-tube that just our members could access. I don’t have any idea on how to do this or if it could be done. I need to talk to the Board regarding this.
