    Processes a wide variety of crudes - from verylight to very heavy (from 18 to 45 degree API) and

    from sweet to very sour (with sulphur content from0 to 4.5%)

    With an annual crude processing capacity of

    580,000 barrels (92,000 m3) per stream day(BPSD), RPL will be the sixth largest refinery in theworld. It will have a complexity of 14.0, using theNelson Complexity Index, ranking it amongst thehighest in the sector. The polypropylene plant willhave a capacity to produce 0.9 million metrictonnes per annum.

    The refinery was commissioned on 14 July 1999with an installed capacity of 661,000 barrels perday (105,100 m3/d). It is the largest refinery in theworld.

    Reliance Petroleum Limited (RPL) on 25 December

    2008 announced the commissioning of its refineryin a Special Economic Zone at Jamnagar, Gujarat inIndia. With the completion of the RPL refinery,

    Jamnagar has emerged as the Refining Hub of theWorld with the largest refining complex with an

    aggregate refining capacity of 1.24 million barrelsof oil per day in any single location in the world.

    FUTURE PLANS

    There are plans in the pipeline to process High PourPoint crude oil extracted at Barmer, Rajasthan inthe near future. This would require an electrically

    heat traced pipeline to be set up from Barmer toJamnagar. These developments indicate that there

    might be further expansions to the crudeprocessing units at the refinery.

    Reliance petroleum is in the process ofpurchasing the downstream business ofMobilin Australia. This will give them two more
