CHILDCARE TRAINING PROGRAMME – 2010Information regarding the Training Programme

FeesAll course application forms must be accompanied by a cheque payable to Powys County Council and submitted to the address below. One Day Courses - £10.00 per person subsidised by the Powys Children and Young People’s Partnership. Non-subsidised - £20.00 per personThe courses subsidised by the Children and Young People’s Partnership for adults (over 18 years of age) working or intending to work in the voluntary and independent sector with children in the 0 – 14 age group. A place will be allocated on a first come first served basis. A letter of confirmation will be sent to each candidate.

Please note that courses will NOT include lunch unless stated otherwise. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Please let us know if you need to CANCEL so that a place can be offered to someone else.

If there is any further specific training you require for your team that has not been covered, please let us know and we can try and find out if this training can be offered.

Evaluation questionnaires will be distributed at each training course to enable the Partnership to gain a clearer picture of the quality of training that is being provided. We also want to know whether the training met the individual’s needs and benefited the Settings.

Course Aims – The course aims to enable course members to be aware of the hazards and risks involved in the workplace and who is responsible for health and safety. It outlines what to expect from a Risk Assessment and will enable participants to develop a health and safety culture in their workplace. On the course, you will look at various legislation as well as learn to carry out a risk assessment. Students who successfully complete the day’s training will receive a certificate.

The course also includes Manual Handling on aims to change attitudes and behaviour and promote risk awareness and give trainees the skills to assess risk, teach good manual handling and lifting principles.

CHILDCARE TRAINING PROGRAMME – 2010There is currently a lack of fathers' involvement in pre and ante-natal care, absentee fathers, low esteem and low academic achievement levels amongst boys, the anti social and damaging behaviour of teenagers and the lack of good male role models. These are complex and difficult issues. Each family is different and each case needs care and attention. However, these issues need to be addressed as a matter of urgency and solutions and ways of working with fathers need to be found. This two day course is offered as a start in the process. It encourages debate and will focus attention on ways of engaging fathers that will be of direct benefit to their children, their partners and to society as a whole.

CHILDCARE TRAINING PROGRAMME – 2010P3 Courses – Level 2 playwork courses – The certificate course builds on the work of the Award, developing and expanding its key messages. It is also underpinned by the Playwork Principles. The course will cover: affective play spaces; an introduction to human development and play theory; dynamic risk assessment; play types; an introduction to play deprivation; advocating for children's play; gender and play; behaviour and relationships; communication; food; discrimination and prejudice; essential procedures and the law; and it will recap and develop the understanding of The Playwork Principles, and a playworkers response to childrens play.The course is 20 hours taught, 60 hours playwork, 20 hours reflective practice.Contact Jan 0r Ang on 01597 825236 for further details.

This course is accredited with the Open College Network at a Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE, NVQ2 and intermediate GNVQ). It involves 30 hours of learning (20 hours taught and 10 hours of individual study). No exams or essays required just weekly activities.It is an ideal opportunity to gain further skills and knowledge in nutrition as well as increase their confidence in carrying out healthy eating related activities.

LAP-NAP TrainingBackground:Language/Number and Play is a free Basic Skills Cymru (W.A.G.) Programme designed to support parents/carers and their babies and children (from birth to 3 years)- encouraging parents to share experiences with their children and promoting parental involvement, so that children become more confident and develop better speaking and listening skills to support their start at school.The emphasis is on having fun with songs and rhymes, books and stories, games and in everyday routines or when out and about. Powys CC LAP Team co-ordinate delivery and provide free publications, resources and support.

CHILDCARE TRAINING PROGRAMME – 2010The focus will be on planning for programme delivery, considering methods of delivery appropriate for different client groups and adapting LAP-NAP sessions to meet the needs of different groups.Training sessions will include new activity ideas and links with partner agencies- especially opportunities for signposting parents to other support mechanisms.
