While often assumed to be a federal or state employee, CVSO’s are employed by counties per state law. Each county is responsible for hiring its’ own CVSO and providing appropriate staffing, facilities, and budget to enable that CVSO to best serve the veteran population of the county. State law requires that CVSO’s be veterans of active service with honorable discharges, and that they be stand-alone departments within their respective county government. Additional requirements and specific qualifications are at the individual county’s discretion.

Sexual Trauma

Some veterans (women and men) suffered personal assault and/or sexual trauma while serving on active military duty. They might still struggle with fear, anxiety, embarrassment, or profound anger as a result of these experiences. We can’t undo the past, but if you suffer from the effects of sexual trauma in the service, we may be able to help you. ___________________________________PTSD symptoms include: Sleep disturbances and nightmares, Emotional instability, Feelings of fear and anxiety, Impaired concentration, Flash-backs, and Problems in intimate and other interpersonal relations.

Vocational Rehabilitation

The program offers a number of services to help each eligible disabled veteran reach his or her rehabilitation goal. These services include vocational and personal counseling, education and training, financial aid, job assistance, and, if needed, medical and dental treatment. Services generally last up to 48 months, but they can be extended in certain instances.

_____________________________________Examples of exceptions to receive VR(for example, you are awaiting discharge from the service because of a disability, or you are entitled to VA compensation but have decided not to reduce your military retirement or disability pay). _____________________________________Exceptions to eligibility criteria:You may be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation if you are rated 10% disabled, and you have a serious employment handicap. You may have longer than 12 years to use this benefit if certain conditions prevented you from training

CVSO’s deal with a large variety of benefits and programs for veterans.

CVSO’s are part of the community, they attend the same churches, shop at the same stores, go to the same schools as the veterans they serve. Not only are they advocates they can also be confidants to the veterans.
