Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework
• COP-15 expected to consider for adoption the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
• COP-13 requested the Executive Secretary to prepare for SBI-2 a proposal for a comprehensive and participatory preparatory process
• In recommendation SBI2/19, the SBI took note of the proposed preparatory process, and requested the Executive Secretary to invite, for submission by 15 August 2018, further views and requested the Executive Secretary to update the proposal for consideration by COP
• In recommendation SBI2/19, the SBI also requested views on scope
and content by 15 Dec. 2018
Background
• Adopts the preparatory process and requests the Executive Secretary to facilitate its implementation
• Urges Parties and others to actively engage in the process and to establish processes at the national, subnational and local levels, to facilitate dialogues
• Encourages Parties and others to consider developing, prior to COP-15, on a voluntary basis, biodiversity commitments
• Invites the General Assembly of the UN to convene a high-level biodiversity summit
• Requests SBSTTA-23 to contribute to the development of the scientific and technical rationale for the post-2020 biodiversity framework,
• Requests SBSTTA-23 and 24 to review possible components for the post2020 global biodiversity framework
• Requests SBI-3 to review a draft of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and to prepare a recommendation for the consideration of the COP.
SBI Recommendation 2/19
• Recommends that the Cartagena COP-MOP 10: – Notes of the preparatory and welcomes decision 14/- of
the Conference of the Parties;
– Decides to develop a specific follow-up to the Strategic Plan for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety for the period 2011-2020 that is complementary to the post-2020 global;
• Recommends that the Nagoya COP-MOP: – Notes the preparatory process and welcomes decision
