The gates to a city, then, represented a point of power, a place to exercise control over that city. A military conqueror would try to get control of the gate in order to enter the city most easily. A king who had the hearts of the elders who sat inthe gate would politically control the city. A person who organized and ran the commercial market and storehouses at thegate would control the economic life of the city²and its surrounding villages.

At the gate ideas and policies flowed along with the commerce. These ideas could result in the rising or falling of rulersand even nations.This enemy represents ideals and principals contrary to that of Heaven¶s Kingdom. Yet it influences our business life, our cultural life, our social life, our political life²even our church life.

And what God is saying to us today, I believe, is, ³Rise up and possess the gates of your enemies. Stop settling for thestatus quo. Take My promise and take back your culture.´

It is God's desire for us to possess the gates of the enemy, that is, to receive Christ's authority over all the power of Satan. Our authority is dependent on being united and one with the Lord Jesus Christ. He initiates, we respond, He doesthe work. Those who use the name of Jesus without His initiating are acting in lawlessness. Their works are not the Lord'sworks

Dear Amanda,

Thanks for remembering my birthday and for the gift card. I was so happy when James

walked in church Sunday with his son, your grandson, Ella¶s and my great grandson. It was my

joy to hold and pray for him. The fact that he brought him to church at all was a blessing. He

knows the way and one day he will follow it like he should.

Jonah? Abraham left his father¶s house under direction from God himself. Jonah, on the other

hand, went his way because he didn¶t want to do what God told him to do. Abraham was greatly

blessed because of his obedience, he and his seed forever. The book of Jonah just ends with his

fr ustration. He is more upset about a vine growing over his head for shade than he was about the

souls of the people. It stops right there. No f uture, no reconciliation, nothing but fr ustration.

I am not going sit in judgment of you. I too left my father¶s house, so I know other people can and

do. I just don¶t want you to end up fr ustrated because of circumstances that really don¶t matter in

God¶s grand and glorious plan.
