The National Institute of Mental Health, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS),is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Scientific Director, Division of Intramural Research Programs (DIRP). The Scientific Director, DIRP will lead andmanage a vibrant basic, behavioral and clinical research program with a budget of approximately $160 million and a staff of over 1,000, including 53 independent principalinvestigators and over 300 pre/post doctoral and visiting fellows (http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov).
Assisted by a Board of Scientific Counselors, an external advisory group that undertakes rigorous reviews of the NIMH intramural research programs, the Scientific Direc-tor will be responsible for developing and implementing an overall vision for the DIRP that is consistent with the mission and strategic objectives of the NIMH. This effortwould encompass the recruitment of new faculty, the expansion of the Division and its programs into several new, state-of-the-art research facilities on the NIH’s Bethesda,Maryland campus, and the management of scientific resources at the NIMH DIRP, including an extensive network of core services facilities, such as an fMRI Facility, aTransgenic Mouse Facility, and a Scientific and Statistical Computing Core, to name a few. It will also include working with other neuroscience Scientific Directors at NIHto development trans-NIH initiatives.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in the biomedical sciences, with broad senior-level research experience and experience in direct administrationof a research program. Applicants should be known and respected within their profession, both nationally and internationally, as distinguished individuals of outstanding scientificcompetence. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Support and resources are also available to allow the Scientific Director to lead his/her ownresearch laboratory. PROGRAM DIRECTOR, RETINAL DISEASES PROGRAMNATIONAL EYE INSTITUTE
The National Eye Institute (NEI), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking exceptional candidates for the position
of Health Scientist Administrator in the Division of Extramural Research. The Division coordinates all aspects of the NEI extramural research
grants and contracts program. The position advertised is for a Program Director in the Retinal Diseases Program. The Program supports clinical
and laboratory research on diabetic retinopathy, sickle cell retinopathy, and other vascular abnormalities of the retina; inflammatory diseases of
the retina; retinoblastoma; retinitis pigmentosa and other inherited retinal degenerations; macular degeneration; and retinal detachment and vitreal
disorders. Future directions for this program are expected to employ promising new technologies and collaborations with new disciplines, such
as bioengineering, which hold great promise for understanding retinal diseases.
The incumbent will direct and oversee the administration of a research grant portfolio in the field of retinal diseases. This includes developing,
managing, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive programof grants; advisingNEI senior staff regarding both the scientific and administrative
matters affecting the retinal diseases research portfolio; representing NEI in broader NIH extramural matters; coordinating program planning and
evaluation activities; and providing reports and statistics related to the Retinal Diseases Program.
This is a career Federal position. The salary range is $69,764 – $127,442 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.

Scientist/Senior Scientist AssayDevelopment
The High Throughput Screening Core Facility (HTSCF) uses acombination of robotics, computational tools and small molecule librariesto study biological pathways and to discover novel probes whichpotentially could be developed as therapies for cancer, infectious diseases,immunology and virology. The facility develops, validates and performsboth chemical (ChemScan) and functional genomics (GeneScan)screening on biological assays submitted by the MSKCC investigators.
We are seeking a highly-motivated, multi-discipline trained scientist to joinour group to implement all aspects of cell based assay development andscreening. This position requires expert knowledge of cell biology and willwork closely with MSKCC investigators to develop and validate cell-basedassays for high-throughput screening of chemical, siRNA, and/orlentiviral based shRNA libraries. The candidate should have experience insignal transduction, phenotypic screens, and/or functional genomics.This position offers a unique opportunity for a talented scientist to workin a dynamic and innovative environment at the heart of basic researchand drug discovery and development.
Qualifications: A PhD degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology,biophysics or a related field is required, with a minimum of three years ofindustrial experience in developing, troubleshooting, executing cell-basedassays in a variety of formats, and automated imaging screening, dataacquisition and analysis generating full HTS reports. We will also consideracademics with a strong performance record in similar scientific disciplines.Strong teamwork, good computer knowledge, organizational skills and writtenand verbal communication skills are essential. Extensive hands-on experiencein cell biology and assay development is required. An ability to collaborate withthe HTS group as well as with investigators at the center and to effectivelyimplement new cellular assay techniques will be essential to success.

• Assistant/Associate Investigator in Flow Cytometry: We are seeking an individual with strongexperience in flow cytometry to oversee our flow cytometry core which has three sorters (2 FACsArias
and a Vantage), five analyzers (including two FACsCantos and an LSRII), and a technical staff of four.
The mission will also include the development of polychromatic flow cytometry aimed at assessinghuman immune responses.
• Assistant/Associate Investigator in Immunomonitoring: We have built a team assessing antigen-specific human immune responses. We are expanding this group with the addition of an investigator. Themission will be defined according to the candidate’s experience.
• Assistant Investigator in Human Diabetes Immunology: The Baylor Health Care System haslaunched a major effort in diabetology, including Islet Cell Transplantation. BIIR Investigators have
identified a DC target that appears to turn on antigen-specific regulatory T cell responses. We arelooking for a young investigator interested in developing tolerizing vaccines.
• Assistant Investigators in Systems Biology/Bioinformatics: Focus areas will be: 1) diabetes, 2)HIV and other infectious agents. The goal of this research is to identify mechanisms of pathogenesis and
clinical correlates, eventually leading to the development of novel therapeutic and diagnostic modalities.
The field of investigation encompasses a wide range of diseases and leverages state-of-the-art genomicanalysis.
• Postdoctoral positions are available in a variety of areas. BIIR faculty members are well-funded,utilize multidisciplinary approaches, and provide an excellent research training environment that can leadexceptional candidates to entry-level positions in academia, government, or the private sector.
With the recruitment of Jacques Banchereau, PhD, as its director, BIIR was established in 1996 with a
mission to translate recent discoveries in immunology from the laboratory to the patient bedside. TheInstitute is housed in a 44,500 ft2 facility and has fourteen faculty and over one hundred members.
BIIR has recently established the Center for Personalized Medicine to exploit the rapid advances in
genomics and proteomics that we are making. We are the first INSERM unit in the United States. Wehave established strong collaboration with INSERM and ANRS to develop HIV vaccines, as well as
collaborations with many other organizations/research institutes throughout the world on a variety ofprojects. BIIR contains advanced core facilities including flow cytometry, confocal microscopy,
