DUTY STATEMENT The Library Coordinator oversees and is responsible for the design, implementation, assessment and evaluation of Library services at Cabra Dominican College ensuring that the college fulfils the requirements of the South Australian Certificate of Education and the Australian Curriculum. The Library coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the learning experiences in a 21st Century learning environment is relevant and engaging for all students affording them every opportunity to experience success as learners. This role is suited to a teacher librarian or a professional librarian with experience in an educational setting or managing a diverse library environment. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching and Learning

Assist teachers with all aspects of facilitating lessons in the libraries, especially for Research Project.

Provide individual assistance for students and teachers using a range of resources and technologies.

Collaboratively plan units of work, and teach them across year levels.

Promote literature across all year levels: formal talks and recommendations for individual students.

Undertake appropriate Professional Development relevant to Teaching and Librarian roles.

Management of Library staff:

Organise Library meetings and write agendas; dispersal information to Library staff, other staff and students.

Organise rosters and reliefs for absences, short term & long service leave.

Supervise staff of two Libraries and Book Hire facility

Manage grievance process in conjunction with SACCS policies and procedures

Manage Work, Health and Safety matters, including training of new staff

Interview with new staff in conjunction with HR and Leadership

Plan and delegate work and resolving problems

Facilitate library staff appraisals for Education Support Officers

Coordination and management of library volunteers and work experience placements

Budget for the two libraries and book hire

Plan and implement overall budget for two libraries and book hire

Prepare annual budget proposal including Capital allocation and submit to Business Manager for approval

Oversee Recurrent Budget spending: Library books, e-Books, Online database subscriptions, Library Management System, Tech/Stationery, AV, Periodicals and Book hire.

Liaison with Finance Office with regard to payments.

Access-IT Library Management System

Liaise with Access-IT; responsible for upgrades, patron data load, photos, Beta testing etc.

Management of backups, regular system administration tasks

Staff training in Access-IT; writing new procedures.

Generation of stocktake reports and ongoing review of outdated material.

ICT, Library Blog and TV4Education

Liaise with IT with regard to future planning for ICT issues. Student ID card issues. (Daily ICT problems are managed by TL on duty.)

Deal with routine problems with student BYOD, printers and other library technology.

Oversee the management of TV4Education, in conjunction with AV ESO and IT

Manage subscriptions to ANZRC, EBSCO eBooks, Gale Virtual Reference Library, Weblinks and Readplus

Investigate, trial and implement new database subscriptions relevant to the curriculum

Manage, develop and promote the Cabra Library Blog: review, update as appropriate

Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies, tools and devices

Curriculum

Attendance at Curriculum Meetings

Develop the use of Guided Inquiry across the curriculum as a basis for the SACE Research Project

Library promotion: Newsletter articles/ Veritas, parent nights

Liaise with other Curriculum Coordinators, Teaching and Learning Team and Leadership team on Curriculum issues

Dispersal of information to Curriculum Coordinators and the Teaching and Learning Team as required.

Address staff meetings as required

Management of Resources and Future Library Planning

Select, order, process and catalogue of Library resources in conjunction with other teacher librarians and AV ESO.

Write library procedures and policy as required

Review and culling of library collections as necessary

Lead Library contribution to Redesign and refurbishment planning

Liaise with SLT and Architects to achieve new, flexible whole school library space.

Prepare annual Library Development Plan General Teacher Librarian functions

Plan and present Book Week activities in collaboration with the other library staff.

Attend at Access-It Hub and Catholic Teacher Librarians (CASTL) group meetings

Produce displays on current topics and student work.

Report and follow through on maintenance issues.

Circulation desk duties

Supervise and manage students in the Library.

Coordinate and promote Book Club and other Reader Development activities

PERSONAL QUALITIES The successful applicant will:

An excellent leader with proven team leadership and staff management skills.

A skilled and experienced teacher librarian (eligible for professional membership of A.L.I.A would be an advantage) and/ or degree qualified, professional librarian.

A capable administrator, organiser and communicator who is professional and discreet.

Knowledge of and experience in the integration of new and emerging technologies

Well developed interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish a strong, positive rapport with students, parents, staff and external agencies.

Articulate a clear vision for individual academic excellence, with the ability to lead staff towards achieving this.

Work effectively within teams and leading teams, incorporating an open and participative leadership style.

Demonstrate high quality communication skills and the ability to respond effectively to the needs of staff, students and families

Be committed to the College's Vision and the aims of Catholic education

Seek to deepen their understanding of the Dominican charism and approaches to education

Acquire and maintain:

South Australian Teachers Registration

Teacher Accreditation in Catholic Education SA

Police clearance to work in Catholic Education SA

Approved Responding to Abuse and Neglect training

BELS First Aid training

Perform any other duties as required from time to time by the Principal WORK, HEALTH AND SAFETY

This role is deemed to be a Worker under the South Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2012. As a worker, while at work you must:

Take reasonable care that your actions or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons

Comply, in so far as you are reasonably able to, with any reasonable instructions given by the employer
