lfan I come from the Slovenian mountains where I grew up on a horse farm. I come from a loving family of two parents and a sister. I spent my youth riding around the planes not caring about myhomework. Back then I found school undemanding so I put my energy into cartoons and documentary films instead. And I learned more than one language watching foreign TV. I also remember walking around never looking down, instead I was looking up at the buildings wondering

how they were made. Now I know, and school is no longer boring.

I have always had a strong thirst for information and knowledge. I travel as much as I can and I read one book per week, mostly historical novels. My favorite part of the day is when I make somebody laugh. My biggest professional qualities are focus, goal orientation, dedication and I like to think I have good common sense.

I seek knowledge everywhere and discover things that inspire me.

An internship is an exciting new experience and I never turn away from those. This year I did a project with Stanford University, where a group of people from Slovenia and California had to conceptualise an auxiliary campus for Stanford in New York City. All the work was done over seas in different time zones.

I have been employed in an architectural studio for three years now. Working in Slovenian architectural space, knowing the strict Slovenian building legislation I wonder why order and discipline seems to be missing. I have been to Denmark four times and it always amazes me how people dont go out of their ways to make architecture complicated and tacky. Danish building design makes sense. There is a logical link between form and function. I admire the implementation of tradition. Consistency shows through repetition of same colour, material or shape in Scandinavian houses. In my country people build what they want, no matter how it looks. I appreciate the continuity of vision in Danish urban design.

A review of my portfolio will make it clear why I would like to intern in Denmark. There is irresistible surface differences between our countries. I have been making most of my projects based on the relief, those being mostly on slopes or uneven ground. I would love to learn how to work under different circumstances In Aarhus in the harbour I saw construction sites that amazed me. The sea had been forced to give up space to buildings. I have high expectations of my internship. I would like to gain enough knowledge to be able to compare Danish and Slovenian architecture and continue my work with the qualities from both. I want to gain an inside knowledge about Danish procedure, tradition and legislation.

Its function is a coffee shop, that offers the passing pedestrians rest and refreshment, with a view upon the city centre while being a part of the city beat. Due to the baroque and secession buildings surrounding the square the design is simple and clean. It is composed out of the basic geometric shapes. Main part of the pavilion is a square, closed in order of usage in winter time. It also contains the bar, storage and bathroom facilities. Summer garden is sheltered by three triangles anchored on a round pillar.

Peter GabrijeliProject: Reading galleryLocation: Socerb, SloveniaProgram:Placed in a village called Socerb formed by a cluster of houses lying on a pier out of slate and limestone. It is placed under a castle in ruins overlooking the Adriatic sea.Made to host tourists and local residents in reading and art, having to choose from gallery, atrium and pavilion space.

Concept of the library is based on the form of the hill and content. It adapts to the steep slope and quiet program. It was inspired by symbolic of open books stacked together.

The front glass facade takes in the light and view to the sea, garden pavilion to the castle.

Course: Design studio III. 2010Mentor: Prof. mag. Peter GabrijeliProject: Raster_rhythm_sorted chaosLocation: Tri; SloveniaProgram:Location lays on the outskirts of a town called Tri.. It is adjusted to the landscape formed as an island between a river and a stream. We have densely build tissue on 45000 m2 plot. First facility dates in the year 1885, newer were built in the 1980. Most buildings are protected as cultural heritage, The industrial style of the 19th century needs to be preserved. Hollowing out the old decaying interior, preserving cast iron columns, there will be space for a new education, culture and sporting centre. Due to the small population one centre with multiple function is sufficient. In the new renovated facility there will be several divisions of high schools of technical nature such as technical gymnasium, mechanical engineering, carpentry, graphics.The location offers space for practical training, and sporting halls. Architectural design is based on the game full/empty. and disorganized order.. It originates from a raster, because the used rhythm is not correct we get a pattern, that may appear chaotic, but it is based on the distance among existing columns which form a module.

Course: Design studio IV. 2011Mentor: Dr. Alenka Fikfak doc.Project: TopographyLocation: Tri; SloveniaProgram:It does not hold much value at first site, looking closer, the potential is obvious. There is a keeping-people-in program missing in the town, which is both industrial and transit, the city centre is loosing residents.Castle site is decomposing and is poorly maintained. The image of the fort hangs over the city insignificantly with natural recreation paths and surfaces left to fend for them self. The project is designed to lift Tri back on its feet on convention tourism, since the once successful industry has been overtaken by countries with lower manufacturing costs.Converting existing past protocol buildings, promote renewing and include current building and cultural heritage into tourist programs rather than building new facilities to house guests. Due to preservation of the natural values, we need to prevent outdated mass-tourism invasion. Development strategy and set future trends (Slovenian Ministry of Economy) place Slovenia as a meeting point of Europe for business meetings, conventions and shorter vacations.Natural values, cultural heritage has not been adequately promoted in the tourist offer, though it represents a significant part of authenticity of our country. Tourism is also one of the mechanisms to promote it and rise awareness towards heritage. The building is integrated into the hillside, imitating the natural layering of the slope. The congress halls marked green on the lower diagram take of the top of the hill. The hotel part is composed of slender volumes placed horizontally that follow the natural surface.

The park holds many natural resources, good transport accessibility and residents that follow the issues and participate with the changes that influences their surroundings. With the increasing awareness of nature preservation we were thinking of procedures that dont strain it but add value.We have divided the park into several segments that act independently from one another but are thematically linked. We placed buildings on the intersection of the hill and the plane. They form a line along the slope and eat into it. It forms a urban stitch between the nature and urban part of the park. Theme paths that stretch across the park vary in difficulty so users can adjust the complexity.

Course: Global urban design course 2012Mentor: Sinan Miheli (Ljubljana), Derek Ouyang (Stanford), John Barton (Stanford), Naseem Alizadeh (Stanford), Andreja Cirman (Ljubljana)Project: Stanford Technology Campus in New YorkLocation: Manhattan, New York, United StatesCo-authors: Klemen Kuar, Ura vegl, Christian OllanoProgram: Stanford has grown and succeeded in Silicon Valley over the past 50 years. They are exploring ways of extending its technology and entrepreneurship model to other sites where there is potential for innovation. New York is a promising location with its history of economic growth, social reform and cultural diversity. A team of urban design planning and development professionals from all around the world was recruited. We conducted research to determine feasibility and provide plans for Stanford auxiliary campus in New York. In the frames of the project we did preliminary research meaning studying the city and determining possible sites. That resulted in choosing the most promising one. For which we conducted site analysis, which was important for understanding all important aspects of the site. Knowing the surroundings we did a couple of volumetric studies proposing one final development model. Since we also financially planed it we set up stages in which the project will be built in considering the financial partners. The project was done without physical presence and the members of the team have never been in the same room or time line. It was a test of flexibility and resourcefulness.

We placed five small holiday apartments on a confined space. They are build from the material that we dug up for building them and are blended with the surroundings. Placed as boulders on the hill they hold nothing in front to obstruct the view of the valley.

The emphasis is on easy access and manoeuvrability on a small plot. All the apartments have an elevator shafts and are equip for physically disabled. There is a drive through garage and one way traffic in the complex making the traffic easy to handle for elderly. Its the Mediterranean area and has mild climate due to that we planed plenty of terrace space.

Recommenda on Le er for Tina Vilfan I have known Tina Vilfan from the academic year 2009/10. During the study me at the Faculty of architecture she has been working under my mentorship from the study year 2010/11, on several projects. She is a mo vated, inven ve and self-ini ve individual with a good sense of team work. I have been following her work through dierent courses. The focus of her work under my mentorship was Architecture and Design studio. She has also done a lot of dierent workshops: urban planning, architecture, interior design, lightening and others. Of course, her presen ons were always supplemented by a fully graphic and visually designed appearance. She has successfully used these competences in the many art, design and project work. We share the opinion that architectural theory is only well indorsed when going hand in hand with practice. I hired her for a accomodation home for children. She completed the project and gained a construction permit. Over the couple years she showed a remarkable speed in learning and adapting to the buisnes world she fell into. Soon she was holdnig her own meetings with cooperants meaning she brings a project from first sketch to a final product that has all the documentation to start building.
