The Electrolux CookPot helps inexperienced cooks by retrieving cooking instructions straight from a food packaging’s RFID tag. In the next 90 years, magazines and recipe books can be RFID-enabled and devices can send downloaded recipes to appliances like the CookPot. Not only is the cooking temperature accurately controlled, the CookPot also reads the recipe out step by step so the user can learn how to cook through experience. Because of this, novices can cook food perfectly every single time, whether they are boiling, steaming, poaching, roasting or evendeep frying.

The CookPot takes away the fear of cooking because it guides the user step-by-step, ensuring successful results consistently. This space-saving product eliminates the need for separate cooktops, pots, colanders and specialty appliances, making it perfect for dorms and small dwellings.

EGG MODULAR WORKSTATIONmarch 2008

The EGG is a modular workstation system for the fun, modern workplace. It gives the user enough privacy to concentrate on their individual tasks while giving them the option to work collaboratively, making it ideal for any office—from newsrooms to animation studios. Because it allows for the monitor to be mounted, the user can have more desktop space, minimizing clutter.

Employees can work individually and by teams. Small teams can have spontaneous group meetings just by swiveling their chairs to face each other. Team members can also check on each other’s progress easily. The EGG can be configured to fit as much as 8 persons to collaborate with each other in a circle.

The EGG’s body is made of a combination of composite boards and fiberglass, giving it a soft shape that is seldom seen in existing workstations and cubicles. It can also be configured to have different color schemes or wallpaper treatments, and can even be customized with a company’s branding. Creative parents may choose to buy just one section of the EGG and select a combination of custom colors and “kiddie” wallpaper to match their child’s room.

ORTEGA’S COCOA TABLEA branding and packagingoctober 2007

job.buenazedacruz.com/portfolio/ortegas-cocoa-tablea

Ortega’s is one of many cocoa tablea manufacturers in the Philippines. I wanted to give the product a decadent “chocolatey” and distinct look to elevate them from the rest. There is also a more festive package design specially for the holiday season (left).

LIL RED DEVIL KIAMOYpackaging, logo, character designjuly 2007

job.buenazedacruz.com/portfolio/lil-red-devil-kiamoy

The Kiamoy is an extremely salty, sour, tangy and sweet Chinese preserved fruit snack that is considered foul-tasting, but at the same time, is its unique selling point. I wanted the branding and packaging to reflect this as well. The devil looks mischievous and nasty but cute and harmless at the same time. The Kiamoy has been around for a long time, which is why I decided to give the packaging a vintage, kitschy feel.

GROCERY SHELF DIVIDER WITH HINGED FIN product development and designapril 2010

job.buenazedacruz.com

The first of its kind, this multi-purpose display system is a design beverage companies can use to isolate and highlight their products from the rest of the merchandise in the grocery aisle. Other than having a hinged fin, the divider also has its own shelf strip for infographics and promos.

Created with ArtiosCAD, this formula-based design can be easily re-sized to fit any number of bottles regardless of its size. It can also be modified for toiletries, household cleaners, snack foods, canned goods and other products.

This was a new product I conceptualized and developed for 11 Future Technology and Concepts, a Philippine-based custom display manufacturer.

This WiFi station is for large establishments like convention centers, shopping malls and airports, where the public can access the internet using their laptops and mobile devices. The design also doubles as Smart’s own booth setup for exhibitions.

I conceptualized this product to pitch to Smart Communications, one of the biggest communication service provider in the Philippines. Large establishments like shopping malls, convention centers and office buildings who already have Smart as their providers can be given this battery-powered Hotspot Marker so that its patrons know that they may use the free WiFi in the area, at the same time, serving as ambient advertising for the company.

This Hotspot Marker is actually the giant version of their SmartBro Share it Router. The WiFi signal lights up incrementally, visually representing the strong WiFi connection. The back side also has a lighted ad space for the latest promos.

Smart liked this proposal very much and ordered 300 units from 2x2 Design Inc., the Philippine-based manufacturer I designed this item for.

The humble neighborhood Sari-Sari1 store can easily become an eyesore with the mishmash of all the random tarpaulin and print ads hung all over the place. This design creates a focal point for Coca-Cola products at the point of purchase—the store window.

The frame is made up of several parts of printed versaboard with versaboard corners, in this case, the red Coca-Cola cloud branding. This allows for the window to be easily customized on-site, regardless of its dimensions. On either sides are replaceable Coke Bottle Wobblers for the latest marketing promo.

A tiled ledge offers moisture-resistant display of Coca-Cola beverages (dry erase price bubble optional). Replaceable Tarp Skirt reserves a permanent spot for all succeeding Coca-Cola tarpaulin ads. One size for all succeeding tarps for quicker lead time.

Once a leading baby garments brand in the Philippines, the owners wanted a new logo to refresh their identity as they needed to compete with international brands present in the country. Together with a new chick character, a custom typeface was created specially for the company’s new logo.

I am an industrial designer based in Manila. As of the moment, I am designing and prototyping my own line of toys and products. I also enjoy taking on interesting projects and helping manufacturers and businesses with their products and branding.

I love making my own things and solving problems through design. A dream project of mine is to redesign the Philippine currency to make it more user-friendly for the elderly and people with low vision and visual impairments.

...and when I’m not busy working, I enjoy gardening (I love herbs!), cooking spicy food, baking all sorts of goodies, riding bikes, and playing the drums on Rock Band. \m/
