When a customer buys a product, he may know he is a lso buying another: the packaging. Packages are only used as a conta iner for other products. They are products der ived f rom paper, cardboard, p last ic or meta l ; they may a lso be ceramic, or g lass. Package product ion represents extra income to the producers. The user has to buy th is packaging and take i t home. W ithout packaging, products can be reduced in pr ice f rom 20% to 70%. On average, 25% of the product. When you buy a package, i t becomes waste that you have to recycle proper ly. We spend our money to produce i tems that we nei ther want nor need. We have to take them home and we have to pay attent ion to the i r correct d isposal .
Europe produces 68 mi l l ions tons of package-waste every year. Package-wastes compr ises 50% of the dumps.

The col lect ive “Al teraz i-oni Vedeo” carr ied out research about I ta l ian unf in ished works f rom 1951 to the present day. They have taken a census of 357 works, ha l f of which is in Sic-i ly. For th is reason the phenomenon is ca l led “ incompiuto s ic i l iano” . Dur ing the research the town of Giarre comes out as the main con-centrat ion point . There are twelve unf in ished publ ic works, which represent an aban-doned inf rastructura l network. These works are surrea l for the i r in-tended uses and amaz-ing for the i r scale. Giarre is a town with 27.000 inhabi tants.

These two species character ize two di fferent areas of the garden; th is is
the reaon why they wi l l be preserved; moreover, the landscape plan puts
forward the introducion of typ ica l mediterranean species to mark the
other areas of the garden.

“ACCORCIARE LE DISTANZE”
Recovering and making a nei-ghbourhood better means con-cerning onseself with the l itt le everyday experiences that every person goes through. On the ba-sis of social analysis of the daily practices of the population of Ja-pigia, the project “Accorciare le distanze” proposes to facil itate these practices, that have been spontaneously consolidated over time.According to analysis of the tra-vell ing patterns of the popula-tion, the most common of these practices consists of the move-ment of residents from one part of the urban network to another, crossing the many empty plots within the district of Japigia.This activity has spontaneously arisen to l ink the most popular routes with the areas of social housing.The “Accorciare le distanze” project is an attempt to ease and secure the use of these improvi-sed pathways and, furthermore, it represents an invitation to cre-ate innovative routes, in order to reduce the distances that isolate each resident within the space of their respective propert ies.

Bottled water consumption has increased very much in recent years, even in countri-es where the water supply is guaranteed by the State. Europeans consume 29,5% of the bottled water in the world, 64 l itres per person yearly. Sales have doubled in Spain in the last 10 years and it is the fourth country in Europe after Italy, Germany and France (consumption per inhabitant)During 2003, each cubic me-ter of bottled water cost 340 euro in Spain, while tap water cost 1,5 euro. The purpose of the project is to make pe-ople in Madrid aware of this situation. We want to use this opportunity to submerge the participants in a swimming pool of plastic bottles used on an average day.
