Logistics• Stakeholders included donors for
kitchen-serving and dining area, bookstore and COF users of new fitness center.
• All critical functions including library, dining, bookstore remained in operation during construction.
• Stakeholders and end users campus-wide were integral to planning, specification process
• Milestone achievement and advisories were communicated proactively
Challenges• As-built information from the
1967 building was either not available, modified without being documented or documented incorrectly.
• Neither pre-construction borings nor site records information identified former structures on the site prior to excavation. Yet…
• Contingency planning included temporary library, classroom, dining and bookstore space
Center for Science and Biomedical Engineering
Project Description
• Construction of approximately 18,000 gross square feet of new building space and the renovation of approximately 15,000 gross square feet of existing space.
• New three story addition to the east side
of the Ira Allen building
• Renovation of the existing three story building, preserving the historic character of the exterior of the building
• Development of a new entrance to the building to provide a new lobby and enhanced access and egress to the facility.
Project Goal • The central goal of this project is to consolidate
the College of Arts and Sciences, and to increase the quality and quantity of space available for science activities.
Program• Creation of 2 chemistry labs, 2 biomedical
engineering labs, 4 physics labs, a material science lab, a biology/environmental lab and offices for the College of Arts and Sciences’ 25 faculty, Dean, department head, administrative staff and support services.
• I was assigned as Project Manager for this project from the RFP phase to the Topping off milestone and reassigned exclusively to Flanagan Campus Center project due to the sensitive nature of construction in a fully operational and occupied building.

610 Huntington Avenue residence hallThe residence hall houses 475 students in 83 apartment suites (mostly 3 bedroom/6 person units) totaling approximately 160,000 GSF. Amenities will include a mail room, a fitness center, a game room, several study rooms and multi-purpose program rooms, and a large event room off the main entry. The building is fully accommodated for voice, data, and cable TV. It also houses the new 24 hour dispatch office and headquarters for Wentworth’s Public Safety department. The building is adjacent to a freshmen residence hall which remained in full operation for the duration of construction.I managed outsourced architectural, engineering and CM teams as well as in-house team included selection, purchase and coordination of fixtures, furniture. Students were provided the opportunity to vote on favorite furnishings through tours in a full scale mock up with selected vendors.
