WHAT IS POLLUTION
There are several types of pollution, andwhile they may come from different sourcesand have different consequences.
Pollution is the introduction ofcontaminants into the natural environmentthat cause adverse change.
Pollution can take the form of chemical, substances or energy, such as noise, water or
air and so on.

AIR POLLUTION
According to the California EnvironmentalProtection Agencys Air Resources Board
Undesirable amounts of particulate or gaseousmatter in the atmosphere
It occur naturally during
- humankind,
- dust storm,-volcanic eruption,
- a forest fire

NOISE POLLUTION
Noise pollution is a disturbance to thehuman environment that is escalating at
such a high rate.
It will become a major threat to thequality of human lives.
Especially in urban areas, have been
increasing rapidly.

Causes
Disease-causing agents such as bacteria,
viruses, protozoa and parasitic worms that
enter sewage systems and untreated waste.
Wastes that can be decomposed by
oxygen-requiring bacteria.
Water-soluble inorganic pollutants, suchas acids, salts and toxic metals.

CausesThe release of carbon dioxide
- used in various industries
- deforestation
- volcanic eruption ( 40% of CO2)
The combustion of fuels in automobiles, jetplanes, etc
The release of carbon monoxide
- major pollutant
- due to any fuel burning
appliance

Causes
The release of sulfur dioxide- excessive burning of fossil fuels
-Nitrogen dioxide + sulfur dioxide = acid rain
The emitted of nitrogen dioxide- power plants.

Causes
Transportation systems especially motorvehicle.
Other sources are office equipment, factory
machinery, appliances, power tools, lighting andaudio entertainment systems.
Construction equipment also produces noise
pollution.

Solutions
Change in design and operation of machines, vibration control, by using sound absorbing
materials.
Reduced by prescribing noise limits forvehicular traffic and planning industrial
establishments, amusement areas, residential
colonies and hospitals .

Solutions
Locate the building as far as possible fromnoise source.
Trees like ashok, neem, coconut can be
planted to provide some absorption of sound. Laws should be made for controlling noise
hazards at city level.
People can be educated through radio, TV,street play about noise pollution.
