Lions Marie Curie Daffodil Appeals

March 12th was the date for 2016 Great Daffodil Appealin support of Marie Curie nurses who provide the

hands-on care for terminally ill people. I had participatedin the Marie Curie promotional filming recently and hadfond memory of it. So when I received an email referralregarding the collection, I immediately warmed to the taskof organising the Lions Clubs for a collection for MarieCurie. After many emails and discussions with fellow ZoneA Lions, and local Marie Curie fundraiser Jane Richardson,a collection zone force was born! This would be anopportunity to promote Lions Clubs as well so we ordereda new set of Lions fleece vests, kindly sponsoredpersonally by the LP Hans Hung of London Chinatown. The vests are embroidered withthe Lions logo and words ‘London Lions Clubs’ so they could be used again in futurezone activities.

DG Meena, PDG Vijay Arora and Lions from three clubs: London Central, LondonCovent Garden and London Host, 16 Lions in total pledged time to collect for this goodcause. There were three shifts from 10 am to 4.30 pm. The day started for me, settingup at the depot to equip the volunteers with the bright yellow Lions fleece vest, matched with the Marie Curie tall hats, trays, shaker and buckets. Then the Lions wereoff to stand outside shops and strategic spots populated by the public. There were firsttimers and veteran collectors, working singly or in pairs, spread out on Oxford Street. I was glad to do some collection on the street too. What an eye opener! So gratefulwhen someone came to put their coins in and thrilled to see £5 and £10 notes also.

At the end of the day, Jane Richard came to collect the money donated. Later sheinformed us that we have raised a very commendable £850 which equals 42 hours ofnursing care with Marie Curie nurses! Well done to all of us!
