PMI Chapters Pave the Way for ExcellenceThe debut of PMI Global Congress 2004–Latin America is a creditto the foundation laid by PMI Chapters in the region over the lastfour years. The success of their Congreso Ibero Americano deGerencia de Proyectos (held annually since 2000) made for asmooth and seamless transition of that event into a full-fledgedPMI Global Congress. During this first year under PMI’s auspices,the event is called PMI Global Congress 2004–Latin America (5°Congreso Ibero Americano de Gerencia de Proyectos) as a tributeto the event’s history and regional roots.
Congress Begins with Remarksfrom PMI’s CEO and BoardChair One of the special highlights atthis premier event is the keynoteaddress, to be delivered by PMI’schief executive officer, GregoryBalestrero, and by PMI BoardChair Kenneth O. Hartley, PMP,PMI Fellow.
Balestrero, a trainedengineer who holdsmore than 20 years ofexecutive-level associa-tion experience is well-equipped to speakabout the state of theproject management professionin the world today. He will exam-ine project management’s role asa bridge between strategy andexecution, and the acceptance ofthe profession at the organiza-tional level. Finally, he will explorethe future potential for growth ofthe profession, and the chal-lenges and changes it will face.
Hartley, with hislong and distin-guished history ofleadership serviceto the Institute,will discuss PMI’srole as the pre-
eminent global advocate for theprofession. He will touch on thekey strategic and internal busi-ness initiatives that are drivingPMI’s commitment to supportingproject management and its indi-vidual practitioners by offeringinnovative programs, productsand services to support PMI’sbrand promise: “Making projectmanagement indispensable forbusiness results.”
