The Great Big Kickabout is going to be a truly epic national event. The whole of the UK is coming together over the weekend of 14 –16 June 2019 to help children all over the world.

Your kickabout doesn’t even have to be a proper match. So play in your garden, in the office, on a five-a-side pitch or enjoy a penalty shoot-out in the park.

It’s all about getting out there, having fun and helping children whose lives have been turned upside down by disease, hunger, poverty or disaster. The money you raise will help children everywhere grow up happy, healthy and able to play. Just like children should. And what’s more, every £1 you raise will be matched by the UK government, doubling the difference you make to children’s lives.

So what are you waiting for?

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

Get your team together. Have a five-a-side match, do a keepy-uppy challenge or an obstacle course. There are no rules!

CAN YOU KICK IT? YES YOU CAN!

Let’s be honest, your Great Big Kickabout would be a little flat without a ball.

So to kick things off in style, get your hands on your very own official Soccer Aid for Unicef football. It’s the perfect way to show you’re part of the team for this unmissable national event. Better still, the money goes towards defending play for every child.

The ball is a replica of the one the Soccer Aid teams will be playing with at Stamford Bridge in the world’s biggest celebrity football match on Sunday 16 June.

Valicious weighed little more than a bag of sugar when he was rushed to Bo Hospital in Sierra Leone. A community health worker trained by Unicef had realised that the three-month-old was dangerously underweight. Urgent action was needed to save the tiny baby’s life.

Valicious’ mum had passed away when he was just three weeks old. She had a heart attack, completely out of the blue. Moses, Valicious’ dad, fell apart, struggling to cope with the loss of his wife and to afford milk for his son. At the hospital, Valicious was diagnosed with pneumonia and acute malnutrition.

“Valicious was in hospital for four weeks,” Moses says. “He was really suffering. During that time a lot of people were saying that he was not going to survive, that I was wasting my time going to the hospital every day. Even I wasn’t sure that he would make it.”

Childhood should be one endless playtime. But around the world, hunger, disease and poverty are disrupting play for millions of kids. So we do whatever’s needed

– from treating malnutrition, to ensuring children are vaccinated and supporting our partners to build nurseries – to defend play for every child.

Our community health worker saw Valicious just in time. Pneumonia is the biggest killer of children worldwide, and children who are malnourished are much more likely to be affected. But after a month of therapeutic milk and antibiotics, Valicious pulled through. We now send Moses a regular supply of powdered milk, and Valicious is beginning to discover the joy of play

– just as every child is entitled to.

“Sometimes when I’m playing with Valicious, the way we smiles reminds me of my wife,” Moses says. “I feel happy and courageous, like there is hope.”

THE WAY HE SMILES REMINDS ME OF MY WIFE’

Play makes us who we are, and every child – just like Valicious – is entitled to a carefree childhood. So show you believe in the power of play and join Soccer Aid for Unicef. Together we are defending play for every child.

YOU ARE DEFENDING PLAY FOR EVERY CHILD

Soccer Aid for Unicef helps give children around the world the carefree childhoods they’re entitled to.

By tackling the issues that disrupt childhoods – from conflict and disaster to poverty and disease – we can give children back their schools and their homes, their health and their safety, so they can play. Just like children should.

But play isn’t just about having fun. It’s not a luxury or a nice-to-have. Play matters. It’s about every child being able to fulfil their potential. It makes us who we are. When children play, they learn how to think for themselves, to use their bodies, to make friends and find answers to problems.

The money you raise can buy boxes packed with toys, games and equipment – and help kids get the nutritious food and health care they need.

Together we are defending play for every child.

PLAY. FUNDRAISE. CHANGE CHILDREN’S LIVES.That’sthesimplebuteffectivepowerofSoccerAidfor Unicef.

£10 could ensure 25 children suffering from pneumonia get the antibiotics they need to recover.

£160 could provide a school-in-a-box to help 40 children continue to learn immediately after a disaster.

£375 could build a community playground in Zambia so that 100 children can play.
