Lucky’s story
Suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2.

Suggested focus: Use the story to reflect on the value of solidarity. Discuss how different children come together in the St John’s Sports Society. They work in
solidarity following their motto ‘Pamoja Tunaweza! Together We Can!’ What is your school motto and what does it mean?
Activity: Produce a class motto to show solidarity.
Maria’s story
Suitable for Key Stage 1.
PowerPoint available at cafod.org.uk/sport.
Suggested focus: Use the story to reflect on the value of living as family and
community. Discuss how Maria enjoys the friendship of her dance group. Playing
sport together gives Maria and the other children a sense of belonging to the
group, which helps them to live as a community. What groups do you belong to?
How does belonging to a group make you feel?
Activity: Plan ways you can live as more of a family and community in your class
or school.
Ian’s story
Suitable for Key Stage 2.

Note: Film includes images of conflict so please check
suitability for your class.
Suggested focus: Use the story to reflect on the value of the promotion of peace.
Discuss how sport is bringing people together in Ian’s community, helping
people to live together in friendship and peace. When have you and your friends
fallen out? How did you feel? How were things put right?
Activity: Set up a school club, similar to the peace club that Lucky goes to.
End the week with your own mini World Cup
