Quick, Easy, Customised Software

The Pixel Control Toolbox is a simple development environment for creating custom data entry and control programs designed to provide real-time control of Pixel Powers’ Clarity, Logovision™ and BrandMaster™ graphics systems. The Pixel Control Toolbox makes it possible for someone with little or no programming experience to develop and deploy powerful, custom, point & click software control panels with a minimum of effort.

Applications

Applications for custom control panels are essentially endless. Simple examples include single click recall of a range of commonly used graphics in a broadcast master control. More involved projects can include custom control panels for live sports, interactive game shows and recall of election results. When used in conjunction with a touch panel LCD display, Pixel Control Toolbox custom controls also conserve limited desktop real estate in a crowded master control or production control room.

Flexibility

Pixel Power graphics systems support multiple simultaneous connections, enabling data entry and playout control from several locations at the same time. In addition, the use of the Pixel Control Toolbox custom controls need not interfere with interfaces to existing newsroom, master control or branding automation systems. The Pixel Control Toolbox includes a modular library of controls that are used to access system capabilities including basic network connectivity, automated data gathering, data entry and page recall to air.

Control Types

Status & Connectivity Setup & diagnostic tools include real-time XML connection status, channel status, event logging to disk and the ability to load a specific job in a single button press.

Data Entry With a simple drag & drop, a text entry box can be placed on a form and linked to a field on a page. Single and multi-line text entry is supported, as well as text entry from a preset list of items in a pull down list.

Data Gathering Data Stores can be populated automatically from RSS, XML and SQL data sources. This allows easy automation of stocks and news tickers.

Graphics Playout Graphics recall functions include cue and take in a single press, or as separate commands.

Buttons may also be assigned to trigger specific events such as DVE moves, cell animations and Cool & Smart Moves, including multi-point reveals. There is also a software control version of the RapidRecall keypad for numeric page recall. More sophisticated controls include the ability to manage news headline data flowing into a continuous ticker. This powerful control includes story sequencing and still or animated icons between individual stories or groups of stories.

Future Proof

Built upon the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework and modular in its design, the Pixel Control Toolbox can be extended over time. Its design envisions new controls addressing future extensions to the core feature set of Pixel Power graphics systems as well as new and innovative customer requirements. Further controls in the development stage include automated data collection from newswire feeds and online sources.

Designed to be Simple

Controls can be organized into easy to understand control panels using text labels, groups and tabbed panels. Each control may be color-coded or assigned a picture background. Text labels are fully adjustable including font face, size, color and alignment. Windows standard conventions are followed including tab ordering of controls, making it easy to navigate a custom control panel without using a mouse. In addition, tools for object layering and alignment make designing a custom control panel no harder than building a simple page. The Pixel Toolbox development environment compiles custom control applets that are standalone executables. These can be run on any PC with network connectivity to the target Pixel Power graphics system. A simple XML configuration file defines the connection to the target Pixel Power graphics system allowing for easy redirection to alternate systems or specifying a different job file without compiling a new version of the custom control.
