PIPER CHIEFTAIN
In the skies of regional Australia, across the outback and between every major city; the Piper PA31 Chieftain is known as a true workhorse which has shaped the air charter industry throughout the world.
Dependable. Versatile. Comfortable. Piper called it the Chieftain for a reason.
Designed in the 1970’s, and with nearly 2000 aircraft built, the Chieftain remains an ideal aircraft for charter in Australia today, boasting a seating layout for up to nine passengers plus one pilot, two powerful engines and equipment which allows flight in all weather, day or night.
Air Link operates a fleet of the best kept Chieftains in the country. These aircraft
have a rich history, full of life & adventure across this great land, but we don’t let dust settle on their wings. There’s work to do... Recently refurbished inside and out, our entire fleet presents like new, with forward facing cloth seats and air conditioning for our passengers comfort all year round.
These aircraft can fly into remote areas, including gravel and grass airstrips, as well as the largest of international ports at any time of day or night. This makes them ideally suited for small groups who wish to travel exactly where they need, at the time they choose, in total comfort.
That’s why we love our Piper Chieftains!

Full loaded with nine passengers, our Piper Chieftains can fly for approximately 550km before requiring a fuel stop...
Taking fewer passengers allows more fuel to be carried, so the Chieftains range can be increased up to 1,000km. In most cases, six passengers with minimal luggage will allow maximum fuel to be carried while remaining below the aircraft’s maximum take-off weight.
If and when fuel stops are required, Air Link pilots allow for approximately 30 minutes on the ground. While they refuel, you’re free to stretch your legs and use the airport facilities.
All flights carry the CASA required 45 minute fuel reserves, plus 15% contingency fuel and weather holding fuel for your safety.
