President’s Message Dear Members'
As I go to write this message, I am watching my son set up his school supplies for a new school year. I used this as an excuse to get some new art supplies. There is something about new pencils and blank notebooks that raise mixed feelings within me such catching up with old friends who parted ways for the summer, as well as, new friends to meet. I still wonder who is more anxious; the teachers or the students about the coming year. Will this be hard? Will they like me? It is like the Long Beach Art League in many ways. Maybe you want to learn a new technique or meet great people to "hang with". Or maybe you want to show off a new masterpiece. Whatever reason you choose it is im-portant that you know that we are here to welcome and encourage you.
I would like to congratulate the winners of September's Juried show and all who entered the exhibi-tion . We have some very exciting activities and programs in October to "wet your appetite". Nancy Traeger of the Nassau County Museum of Art will speak about their popular new exhibit "Feast For Your Eyes". It is sure to tempt your "palette". In our library gallery we will celebrate and honor His-panic Heritage Month with local artists from the Long Beach Latino Civic Association. A reception will be held in the afternoon of Sunday Oct 2 with a concert to follow at the Long Beach Library. Make sure to put this special day on your calendar: SAT OCT 22 is LOVE DAY at Arts in the Plaza. There will be a lot of special events including a "Kiss Me In Paris" Photo opportunity sponsored by the Long Beach Art League. There will be a group vow renewal ceremony conducted by Love and Peace Ceremonies at 11:30 AM. Bring your special someone and "show your love". A commemora-tive certificate will be available for purchase at the Long Beach Art League tent.
