Pick and Mix 2013

PICK & MIXForeword by Ross Duke

Happy New Year to you all! We are delighted to start the year off with our highly successful offer of ‘PICK & MIX’ from 2012. Again we are offering marked down prices and further reductions to encourage you to try as many wines and styles that you may not have experienced in the past. Furthermore we have selected some ‘discovery’ packs of 6 bottle and 12 bottle cases to entice you further. However, as usual there are limits of stock to many wines so we suggest early ordering to avoid disappointment. Well, the gun has gone off and we look forward to hearing from you.

Our offers for 2013 will continue to present to you our ever popular selections of Growers Champagne’s. Vic and I will be visiting the Champagne region to taste with our growers the current releases as well as any new ‘cuvees’ that may be released. Both of us will tour Burgundy to perform the usual tasting format and experience the 2011 and 2012 vintages. I will sneak off to Alsace, the Loire and the Rhone valley to complete La Belle France!

During 2012 we were delighted with the response to the many tastings we arranged in the various states of the country and we will continue this in 2013. We therefore look forward to seeing as many as possible to present our wines and to, personally, explain the origins and people behind the large range of Vignerons we ship to Australia. Come and say hello and share a glass or two!!

Cheers from,

Bev, Sarah, Eve, Vic, Adam, David and me as well!!

ALSACE – Alsacien

CHARLES BAURPRICE

Charles Baur 2009 Riesling (Code: 8554) $25.00'The soil composition of this village wine is quite sandy and open. Yields are low so a more intense lime/grapefruit flavour emerges. Bone dry and very crisp. Just lovely from nose to palate. Most of you know this wine AND for those that don't for goodness sake try it and become hooked?'

Charles Baur 2009 Cuvee Charles Riesling (Code: 2306) $28.00‘Refreshingly crisp and dry with some honey, lemon and a mineral edge. Lovely, crisp, dry and lingering flavour. Traditional to it’s bootstraps when many Alsace producers are retaining residual sugar to their Riesling. We say ugh!'

CHAMPAGNE - Champenoise

PRICEEric Rodez NV Blanc de Noirs (Code: 3541) – Limited $63.00100% Pinot Noir. Citrus, toast, red fruits and spices are in abundance here. Long and unctuous – a very special and rare Blanc de Noir – a triumph of wine making, and a bench mark of Ambonnay terroir. One of the outstanding features of Eric's wines is the meticulous care he takes in looking after his reserve wines. Dosage 5g/litre.

Henriet Bazin Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut (Code: 4229) $53.00We have been pleading with Marie-Noelle for a number of years to develop a lower dosage, more mineral cuvee and finally it has arrived but by quite an arduous journey. Whereas some vignerons would simply take an existing cuvee and bottle it at a lower dosage, Marie-Noelle tasted her entire cuvee portfolio at different dosage levels. The result is a 100% Verzenay Pinot Noir entirely from the great 2008 vintage, dosage at 5g/litre. Now we see more minerals, tighter structure, vivacity and subtle acidity. The red fruits are less dominant and we see more chalk and hints of citrus. This is a 'one off' special cuvee. Authentic, rare and stunning.

Francis Boulard 'Mailly' Grand Cru (Code: 4232) $57.0090% Pinot and 10% Chardonnay from Grand Cru Mailly. This cuvee is a classic example of Mailly Pinot from the chalky soils in the village. The red fruits are very subtle – with floral and citrus overtones – we see minerality, smoke and elegance that you normally associate with a wine that is more Chardonnay dominant. This is the beauty of 'terroir'. Dosage at 5g/litre – Extra Brut. Classic Boulard penetrating fine mousse.

Francis Boulard Rose de Saignee (Code: 3724) $54.00One of the best roses ever made by the Boulard father and daughter team. Spice with a hint of oak.

Marie-Noelle Ledru N.V Extra Brut Reserve (Code : 2320) $54.00 - Limited $54.00

A blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay from the superb 2002 vintage and reserve wines from 2001, 2000 and 1999 with a dosage of 8g/litre. Oh so typical of the Ledru style, vinous, unctuous with an ultra fine mousse. Complex aromas of brioche and tobacco, hints of cherries, hazelnuts finishing with pinpoint acid and amazing length.

Guy Charlemagne 2005 Cuvee Charlemagne (Code: 5972) $59.00Pure and intense. From 'that' village again! Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Straw yellow with a fine and constant bead. Hints of dried fruits on the nose – with some orange and pineapple overtones. The palate is soft and round with smoky overtones. The long and silky finish is dominated by the freshness of grapefruit. In Norway, Guy Charlemagne is the third biggest selling Champagne after Moet and Veuve Clicquot.

Marc Hebrart Cuvee Blanc de Blancs (Code: 2332) $47.50A blend of 2008 and older reserve wines - all from vineyards with an average age of 24 years. This rests on lees (sur lattes) for 24-30 months. Dosage 8g/litre. This has the citrus with piercing minerality – all white fruits but with zesty intensity.

Seleque Or Blanc (Code: 3779) $48.00100% Chardonnay from Pierry, Dizy and Vertus. One reason for its superb quality is that this cuvee is 100% from 2008 – but not labelled us such – a truly great vintage. 60% vinified in tank with 40% vinified in 228 and 300 litres oak barrels. With three years on lees we see some floral and tropical overtones, citrus and minerals along with some subtle oak influence. The balance is perfect, the mousse is persistent, and the palate is pure, long and crisp. Dosage is a low 6g/litre. Maybe more an aperitif and sushi style. Magic and a bargain.

Jean Vesselle NV Rose de Saignee (Code: 3622) - Limited $54.00A rare true rosé produced by the maceration (saignée) method. After a 36-48 hour maceration on the grape skins – the must is pressed and fermented in tank. 100% Pinot Noir with a dosage of 9g/litre. A classic style with typical Bouzy aromas of smoke and apple, along with small red berries, with a very fine persistent mousse. The palate has sour cherries and strawberries in abundance, all sitting in perfect balance.

Jean Vesselle NV Rosé Oeil de Perdrix Bouzy Grand Cru

(Code: 3434) – Limited $55.00

This cuvee is a re-discovery of the traditional rosé style. 100% Pinot Noir with a dosage of 5g/litre. Colour is a gentle pale salmon, hints of smoke and red fruits, apple and cherries. An elegant aperitif style.

J.L. Vergnon 2006 Resonance Blanc de Blancs (Code: 4230) $59.00 This is from 40 year old vines and reveals an increased level of complexity and purity. Clean racy acidity and lovely ripeness make this a superbly balanced classic blanc de blancs. The 2005 was powerful and intense with perfect balance. With the 2006 we see more citrus and chalk with racy minerals and hints of white flowers. Long and palate staining. Dosage 6g/litre.

J.L. Vergnon Eloquence NV Grand Cru (Code: 2317) $51.00100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Avize. Blend of 2007 and older reserve wines. Classic vinification in tank. The vines are older here, and we see more citrus and chalk, with a little more complexity. Hints of pear and brioche. The lower dosage of 3g/litre keeps all the flavours in perfect balance. Amazing length and complexity. Perfect aperitif style to match with oysters, calamari, seafood tempura and sashimi.

Laherte Frères Grand Brut Ultradition (Code: 3532) $49.0060% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. Smoke and spice on the nose, chalky mineral palate with a hint of lavender. Very pure and fresh. The oak treatment with this cuvee is becoming more and more refined each year. We see more elegance and delicate balance. Amazing purity and finesse in a pinot dominant Champagne! Dosage 6g/litre. Superb.

Laherte Frères Les Emprientes (Code: 8509) - Limited $70.0040% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir (planted 1983) and 20% Pinot Meunier (planted 1965). This is a 'nature' Cuvée, and the malolactic fermentation has been 100% blocked. The 'fingerprint' Cuvée is the essence of the terroir of Chavot. It is purely designed as an expression of the very best terroir of the village of Chavot from a specific vintage. White fruits and weight, amazing power and finesse. Super wine to match seared scallops or prawns. Zero dosage.

Voirin Jumel Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (Code: 3632) – Limited $49.00Blend of 60% Cramant, with the remainder from Avize, Chouilly and Oger. All Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards from a blend of 2008 and reserve wines. This particular wine has been specially chosen and disgorged for us at a dosage of 6g/litre – as opposed to the 8g/litre for the standard version of this wine. There are citrus and floral notes in abundance and the classic Cramant minerality is subtle and not intrusive. Superb with sashimi and sushi. Grand Cru Cramant at this price is an absolute steal!

Launois Pere et Fils Dorine Blanc de Blancs (Code: 3739) $55.00 The 100% spicy Sezanne Chardonnay takes the old oak barrel maturation perfectly. Again a blend of 2008 and 2007. Not much is produced and most is only sold at cellar door to good clients. The creamy opulence of the oak is immediately noticeable on the nose and palate. Aromas of tropical and dried fruits, minerals lead to an intoxicating palate - bursting with citrus and chalk.

Le Brun Servenay Brut Selection (Code: 5932) – Limited $49.00100% Chardonnay being a blend of 50% 2008, 20% 2007, 20% 2006 and older reserve wines. This particular cuvée is always a blend of 4 vintages – and good ones at that. Rich and tight, very complex with oodles of Avize spice – coupled with subtle overtones of white fruits. There is purity and weight and the lack of malo-lactic fermentation adds a level of finesse and freshness which makes this a great aperitif or food style.

CHABLIS – Vignoble Chablis

DOMAINE MAUPERTHUIS PRICE

Mauperthuis 2011 'Les Truffieres' Bourgogne Chardonnay (Code: 2366) $22.00‘Correct green/gold colour and attractive flowery nose. The palate is stylish, delicate and a long soft finish. Ever so easy to drink for the shorter term. Lovely balance and no hard edges. A snip at this price as well?’

Mauperthuis 2010 Chablis 'Vau de Vey' 1er Cru (Code: 2367) $44.00‘Firm green/ gold colour – yes! Aromatic bouquet. The taste combines grapefruit/pineapple and honey on the palate and the minerals and ‘flintiness’ is obvious. Yes! This is Chablis in all it’s glory!’

CREMANT – Cr mant de Bourgogneé

PAUL CHOLLET

'The lovely sparkling Methode Champenoise wines of Cremant de Bourgogne, in the hands of the master – Gilles Remy is an under-rated wine indeed. Those that have tried these wines over the years could not agree more. So why haven’t YOU??

Gilles is the most highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy to produce elegant and beautifully structured sparkling wines. He prefers to use the more high quality base grapes such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with very little intrusion of the Aligoté variety, which most other producers use in varying degrees. Gilles believes it can be too aggressive and likes a more elegant and classical structure. He is in great demand and surprise yourself with these outstanding bubbles!!'

Paul Chollet Cremant 2007 Concerto (Code: 2377) $32.00

Paul Chollet Cremant Brut Zero Blanc (Code: 2376) $24.00

BURGUNDY - Bourgogne PRICE

DOMAINE PIERRE AMIOT

Amiot 2010 Morey St Denis - Village (Code: 1843) $52.00‘Very intense dark ruby colour. A highly concentrated palate with little tannin but round and appealing even now. Top quality wine for a humble village appellation.’

Amiot 2010 Aux Charmes (Code: 1844) $81.00‘Deep ruby colour. High level of fruit with a nice, even balance with a little tannin on the finish leaving a clean, fresh palate.’

Amiot 2010 Morey St Denis 'Les Millandes' 1er Cru (Code:1845) $81.00‘Slightly deeper colour again. This is a bigger more forceful wine with definite red berry fruit flavour and excellent length.'

Amiot Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Combottes' 1er Cru (Code: 1847) $99.00‘Inky red colour. Unfortunately the nose and palate was closed so I concentrated on the structure of the palate. Every aspect of fruit weight, tannin and acid were all on song. This wine will arise significantly over the next 6-12 months in bottle. Previous tasting last year showed a marvellous wine of power and deft balance.’

DOMAINE JEAN-CLAUDE BACHELET

Bachelet 2010 Bourgogne Rouge (Code: 1820) $27.00‘Bright ruby colour with a sweet floral nose. Gentle, red berry fruit palate with soft and round tannins that make it so easy to drink and enjoy right now. It will fill out more and develop a silky texture over the next 5 years. Excellent balance and super value!’

9 Ross Duke Wine Company

Page 12: Pick and Mix

Pick and Mix 2013

Bachelet 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet 'Vielles Vignes' Rouge (Code: 1822) $40.00‘Very deep ruby colour. The 50 year old vines give this wine a weight and concentration that is just so attractive and a great favourite of mine. There is high fruit tannin to give it weight, strength and potential for ageing. Just a fabulous wine as per usual. Who said Chassagne was famous for white wines?’

Bachelet 2010 Chassagne-Mont 'Les Boudriotte' 1er Cru Blanc (Code: 1815) $89.00‘This is the ripest of the Chassagne’s which is not a surprise given its exposed location in the village. A very, very long palate but balanced by reasonable acid.’

Bachelet 2010 St-Aubin 'Derriere La Tour' 1er Cru Rge (Code: 1821) Limited $40.00‘Very deep ruby colour and very closed at this tasting. The structure is there as well as the intensity of the palate. Excellent wine but needs time.’

DOMAINE BARTBart 2010 Marsannay 'Les Longerois' – Village (Code: 1861) $38.00‘Deep ruby red colour with a highly perfumed nose. New pruning with this 2010 using the Guyot method. Very small yield gives it intensity. A 25% touch of new oak adds more depth to this lovely wine. Ripe and very round finish. Top quality indeed!’

Bart 2010 Marsannay 'Grands Vignes' – Village (Code: 1863) $39.00‘Very impressive wine! Sweet strawberry fruit on the nose and palate. Great length and depth of flavour.’

Bart 2010 Marsannay 'Champs Salomon' – Village (Code: 1862) $47.00‘Highly perfumed as well. 25% whole clusters were used in making this wine which is just so stylish, concentrated in ripe strawberry/raspberry fruit with velvety texture. One of their best village wines. And always consistent.’

Bart 2010 Fixin 'Les Hervelets' 1er Cru (Code: 1864) $68.00‘Purple/red colour, quite deep. A bit closed but this is big and long and so finely balanced. Sure to fill out into a wonderful Burgundy of style and class as usual!’

DOMAINE DESAUNAY-BISSEY

Desaunay-Bissey 2004 'Echezeaux' Grand Cru (Code: 4088) $103.00 ‘Deep intense colour . The nose is filling out with more cherries and plum notes. The palate has great length now given extensive bottle ageing and the characteristic slightly herbal taste has gone revealing a more rounded and savoury Pinot Noir. The tannins are also softer and the finish long but clean. Now on form but will fill out more in the bottle as well as soften further.’

Desaunay-Bissey 2009 'Gevrey-Chambertin' (Code: 2220) $49.00‘Black/red in colour and very dense. This is a blockbuster and will last a very long time in the cellar – at least 20 years! The balance is spot on but the concentration of fruit, tannins and acidity combine beautifully. Vines date back to 1985.’

Desaunay-Bissey 2009 Vosne-Romanee 'Vielles Vignes' (Code: 2223) $51.00‘The vines date back to 1966 with younger plantings in 1982 - 86. Vibrant, deep ruby colour sets the scene. The flavour is lush, opulent and very velvety with cherry fruit abounding. Glorious balance – glorious wine!’

DOMAINE ALAIN CHAVY

Chavy 2006 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru (Code: 4186) - Limited $390.00‘What can I say? This is so concentrated and complete in its fruit definition, purity and exact balance. An amazing array of ripe fruits, leaning more towards the leaner stone fruits, with a dash of honey. A marvellous white Burgundy!’

Chavy 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Champs Gain' 1er Cru (Code: 2183) $68.00‘Very spicy introduction then the middle palate flattens out due to recent bottling (which is normal) This white has a lot of ‘terroir’ about and reflects ancient soil structure of limestone, gravel, calcium and argile (clay). Toss in 20% new oak and the spice broadens. Quite complex BUT thoroughly impressive!’

Chavy 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Clavoillons' 1er Cru (Code: 2184) $72.00‘Normally the more ‘masculine’ type with powerful flavours, minerals and spice. Yes, this is typical!

11 Ross Duke Wine Company

Page 14: Pick and Mix

Pick and Mix 2013

Chavy 2010 En Remilly (Code: 3761) $50.00‘Now don’t get me started again on Saint Aubin. I will just say that this epitomises the quality of Saint Aubin whites. Say no more!!!’

Chavy 2010 'Les Charmes' Village (Code: 3760) $61.00‘Guess what? A similar colour to the Bourgogne! However this s richer and riper again with an earthy ‘terroir’ nose. Less mineral depth but ever so attractive and drinkable for the shorter term.’

Chavy 2010 'Les Champs Gain' 1er Cru (Code: 3764) $78.00‘Authentic Puligny with high level of minerality, crisp acidity but ripeness lurks in the background, which will need time to express itself. Marvellous balance.’

Chavy 2010 'Les Clavoillons' 1er Cru (Code: 3762) $82.00‘Another ‘terroirist’ with charming and correct colour. This wine is normally fatter and fuller in flavour but the 2010 model is quite fine although there is a richness of fruit but ever so elegant. A quick kiss of 25% new oak adds an edge and the acid balance is spot on!’

DOMAINE DIGIOIA-ROYER

Digioia-Royer 2006 Chambolle-Musigny 'Les Fremieres' (Code: 7158) $82.00 'A glorious Chambolle that is feminine but intensely flavoured. Very pure fruit encased in a lovely velvet envelope. A shade of new-oak 18-20% adds more depth but does not intrude upon the delicious, natural fruit.'

Digioia-Royer 2010 Chambolle-Musigny 'Vielles Vignes' (Code: 1841) $74.00 ‘Very intense black/red colour. The intensity follows faithfully onto the palate but there is softness and roundness plus silk. Excellent quality from start to finish.’

Digioia-Royer 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Village (Code: 1842) $87.00‘Darker red colour than the village. This is a bigger wine but the velvety texture and more weight of fruit is ever so engaging. A formidable Pinot Noir of exciting proportions.’

DOMAINE ANNE ET HERVE SIGAUT

Sigaut 2006 Morey St Denis 'Les Charriéres' 1er Cru (Code: 7166) $53.00‘Les Charrières is normally on the rustic side of Pinot Noir. However, the 2006 wine has great purity of fruit and is smooth and ripe and superbly balanced. I cannot remember it being more charming and imposing.'

Sigaut 2006 Chambolle-Musigny (Code: 7165) $60.00

'An impressive start, with a lovely sweet, fruity bouquet. Great intensity of flavour and precise balance. Need I say more for a top class village wine?'

Sigaut 2006 'Les Chatelots' 1er Cru (Code: 7169) $66.00‘Thirty year old vines here. A Pinot of some substance, but is more feminine this vintage. It exudes the elegance of Chambolle wines, and is stunning in every way. The best ‘Chatelots’ Herve has made.’

DOMAINE HENRI-PRUDHON

Prudhon 2010 Saint-Aubin 'Sur le Sentier du Clou' 1er Cru Blc (Code: 3753) $39.00‘Impressive nose, colour and palate. Very expressive wine and shows the flintiness of Saint-Aubin whites with a rich background to add complexity. Just delicious and will keep.’

Prudhon 2010 Saint-Aubin 'Sur Gamay' 1er Cru Blanc (Code: 3754) $41.00‘Just near the immortal ‘Dents de Chien’ and it shows! This is more Chablis like than most Chablis these days. I love this style and you certainly will. Stunning.’

DOMAINE DES LAMBRAY 'Limited stock available'

Founded in 1365 Clos des Lambrays is a great expression of Grand Cru Burgundy. But this has not always been the case until the domaine sought the wine making talents of Thierry Brouin back in 1991 to turn their fortunes around. And what a grand job he has achieved as the property is revered among the finest names in Burgundy today!

Most of their vineyards are littered with old vines with less and less manual intervention in the vines and their cellars. The natural expression of Pinot Noir with elegance, depth of fruit with lingering finesse right to the finish is what is expected of this famous address. All wines on offer are first class examples.

Domaine des Lambrays 2004 Morey St Denis (Code: 4061) $70.00Domaine des Lambrays 2006 'Les Loups' (Code: 7175) $132.00Domaine des Lambrays 2010 Morey St Denis (Code: 3773) $87.00

DOMAINE RAPET PERE ET FILS

Rapet 2006 Beaune 'Les Bressandes' 1er Cru (Code: 7107) $66.00

'This wine is much more uniform and delectable than say Morot’s ‘Les Bressandes’. Finely poised but more ideal for drinking in the shorter term up to 8 – 10 years. Isn’t it nice to have this type of Burgundy in your cellar?’

Rapet 2009 Beaune 'Clos du Roi' 1er Cru (Code: 2237) $64.00‘Medium ruby red colour with an earthy nose. This is ripe and rich with red berry fruits. Round, soft tannin and just so expressive! Top quality Beaune premier Cru.’

Rapet 2010 Aloxe-Corton Village (Code: 3768) $38.00‘A delightful flowery aroma is a nice greeting? Stunning expression of red berry fruits with a lick of tannin and ever so round and soft palate. Just a lovely village wine of great quality indeed!’

Rapet 2010 Ile des Vergelesses (Code: 3770) $83.00‘What a star. Medium ruby red colour (less iron in the soil). So, so fine with the usual mineral edge and long, long flavour. A keeper for sure and a classic definitely!’

Rapet 2010 Corton 'Pougets' Grand Cru Rouge (Code: 3771)$122.00

‘Bright ruby colour. An elegant, feminine style with fine balance with a little dry tannic finish owing to 40% new oak being used. Superb wine but somewhat young for now.’

Rapet 2010 Corton Grand Cru (Code: 3772) $122.00‘Commanding deep red colour with excellent clarity. More fruit tannin than the ‘Pougets’ as well as a very long palate. Certainly needs time in bottle beyond 10 years.’

Rapet 2010 Corton-Charlemagne (Code: 3767) $143.00‘Another wine that is closed so structure was assessed and it is a substantial wine requiring many years in bottle up to 10 years at least. We have 30% of 50 year old vines utilising 4 separate parcels from various locations of Charlemagne. Vincent used 50% new oak which adds complexity and weight to the framework of the wine. Great, great potential here which takes me back to the immortal 1998 wine of the same vineyard!’

DOMAINE DU PRIEURE

Du Prieure 2009 Savigny-Les-Beaune 'Moutier Amet' (Code: 2216) $31.00‘Vibrant deep purple red hue. Very fruity with a touch of liquorice on the finish. Authentic Savigny with softer tones and great length BUT has its own character which is ever so engaging.’

DOMAINE DE SUREMAIN

Suremain 2010 Mercurey (Code: 1806) $30.00‘Bright, deep scarlet colour. The nose is quite fragrant and flowery with a slight sweetness. The palate recognises itself immediately with lots of velvety red berry fruits combined with mild, soft tannins. The length of flavour is excellent finishing fine and creamy. An irresistible style that is well above village quality.’

Suremain 2010 Mercurey En Sazenay 1er Cru (Code: 1808) $44.00‘Deeper and darker in colour. The flavour impact is immediate with crisper acidity and firm tannin on the finish. Highly structured wine of excellent quality BUT needs time and patience. Will be an excellent Pinot Noir in 6 - 8 years.’

DOMAINE ERELL NINOT

Ninot Mercurey 2010 'Vielles Vignes' Rge (Code: 3747) $32.00

‘A juicy wine from the beginning and full of strawberry/cherry fruit but so round and silky. The old vines make it even more delicious. Irresistible.’

Ninot 2010 'Les Crets' 1er Cru (Code: 3748) $39.00

‘Juicy again with a little bit more depth of tannin but the silky texture remains. Just two lovely Pinots from this so under-rated region.’

DOMAINE ANTOINE OLIVIER PERE ET FILS

Olivier 2010 'Beaurepaire' Rge (Code: 3752) $47.00

‘Medium ruby red colour and shines in the glass. Lots of raspberries and cherries on the palate. The vines are 40 years of age with 30% new oak, 30% one year old barrels and the balance in 2-4 year old casks. A little bit closed on the middle palate but the structure informs me it will fill out beautifully in the bottle. High toned Pinot Noir.’

Olivier 2010 Santenay 'Beaurepaire' 1er Cru – Blanc (Code: 3751) $54.00

‘Light/gold with a tinge of green. More aligned with apple/grapefruit with excellent acid balance and a concentrated palate of great depth. Keep this for up to 5 years and enjoy the result.’

Olivier 2010 Sous le Roche Village Blanc (Code: 3750) $41.00

‘Under the rock lies a stunning white Burgundy. What a flavour – full of passion-fruit, grapefruit and even lychee – quite exotic and highly attractive. Good acid balance and one could say a cross between Meursault and Chablis. An individual style but just so exciting.’

DOMAINE DUBLERE

Dublere 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Les Champeax’ 1er Cru – (Code: 7103) Limited $92.00

‘A charming ‘Champeaux,’ and always an ample wine of strength of fruit, round and subtle fruit tannin, and more weighty in the mouth. This wine was given the full bio-dynamic treatment by Blair, and he appeared tickle pink with ts outcome. I certainly agree and just love the elegance of this impressive Burgundy.'

MACON – Maconnais

DOMAINE DE LA BONGRAN PRICE

Domain Emillian Gillet 2009 Vire-Clesse (Code: 2369) $32.00

‘This vineyard was owned by Jeans Grandfather and always picked and labelled separately. There is a little more acidity to this wine but the ‘botrytis’ is certainly there. Lovely length to the luxurious palate and that unmistakable signature style of wine that he makes. Glorious.’

Cuvee E.J. Thevenet 2005 Vire-Clesse (Code: 2370) – Limited $45.00

‘Slight green tinge with a gold sheen. The ‘botrytis’ lights up the palate with crisp, balancing acidity and as such I would suggest cellaring for up to 10 more years. This inviting wine has a passionfruit/apple fruit flavour, stunning length and smooth, clean finish.

Thevenet Cuvee Botrytis - Liquoreux (Code:2371) $140.00

‘What a revelation of a wine. This is jam-packed with ‘botrytis' fruit with such intensity and weight BUT it is beautifully balanced. This is a marvel!!!

BEAUJOLAIS – BeaujolaisTRENEL ET FILS

Trenel 2008 Beaujolais Village (Code: 6024) $25.00Top quality vintage for Gamay. Ripe, musk-lolly fruit and crisp, clean finish.

Trenel Peche des Vignes (Peach Fruit Liqueur) 700ml (Code: 3673) $29.00The fruit liqueurs of Trenel are the 'bench-mark' of the finest quality that boasts listings with so many of the Michelin rated restaurants throughout Europe. Their fruit intensity and delicacy leaves their competitors in their wake. Some of them actually have vintage dates to pinpoint their production and thus maintain freshness!

LOIRE VALLEY – Val de LoireDOMAINE DES FINES CAILLOTTES

Jean Pabiot 2011 Pouilly-Fume (Code: 2380) $27.00The ever reliable Pouilly-Fume from Domaine Pabiot continues to deliver that consistently crisp and tangy Sauvignon Blanc in most years. The 2011 model follows this tradition owing to a mild and somewhat cool vintage. This guarantees a more traditional wine with that unmistakable light asparagus flavour and great balance of acidity. Can be kept for up to 6- 8 years.

RHONE VALLEY - Le Rh neô

DOMAINE JEAN GARDIES PRICEGardies 2011 Cotes du Roussillon 'Clos des Vignes' Blanc (Code: 2343) $33.00'Vibrant clarity and green/gold colour is striking. What a palate with an amalgam of lime/lemon/apple fruit flavour with a mineral background. I have never tried a white Rhone in this class – ever! Outstanding.'

Gardies Vin Doux Naturel Muscat de Rivesaltes 'Flor' 50cl. Blc (Code: 2347) $27.00‘Jean Gardies is the complete winemaker – white, red and now a sweet fortified white dessert wine of great flavour and class. Beautiful balance between acid/sugar and spirit chock full of Muscaty fruit that lingers on and on. Captivating!’

Gardies 2009 La Torre (Code: 2345) - Limited $53.00‘Fragrant, soft and silky palate packed with soft fruit flavour with some mineral background, good acidity and soft tannins. Just so beautifully structured with no hot, nor pepper taste. This would keep well over the next 6-8 years. Excellent from start to finish.'

DOMAINE LA GARRIGUELa Garrigue 2009 Vacqueyras Canterelles Rouge (Code: 2356) $52.00‘Deep ruby in colour. Light pepper nose. Here we have 100 year old vines and quite a solid style with ripe, spicy fruit loaded with cassis and plenty of fruit tannin. Excellent quality, rich and very long flavour.’

DOMAINE MONTMARTEL

Montmartel 2011 Cote du Rhone Blanc (Code: 2353) $18.00(40% viognier – 40% grenach blanc – 20% clairette)

‘Good clear and clean green/gold colour. The aroma is similar to cut grass whilst the flavour is similar in style to a Sauvignon Blanc white with a nice lemon edge. The acidity is sufficient but a lovely and interesting white wine that is quite individual and easy to enjoy.’

DOMAINE PRADELLE

Pradelle 2010 Crozes-Hermitage - 100% syrah (Code: 2359) $24.00

‘Black/red colour that is quite intense. Fragrant, flowery nose. Soft attack that fills out the engaging raspberry/cherry fruit. The Pradelle elegance chimes in nicely on the finish as the tannins are rounder and smooth. Top quality Shiraz!’
