Physicians must feel comfortable communicating about end-of-life realities and issues, as well as understanding how draining this can be on the healthcare providers physical and mental well-being. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a method of using meditation and yoga to promote awareness and reduce stress. It is based on the ancient practice of mindfulness, which is about waking up, being fully alive, and being present for the wealth of each moment of our lives. Through this, we gain access to our deepest inner resources for living, healing, and coping with stress. This method can help physicians who are coping with job or family- related stress, and anxiety and depression.
