Preventive maintenance (PM)

What is Preventive maintenance (PM)?
Preventative maintenance (or preventive maintenance) is maintenance that
is regularly performed on a piece of equipment to lessen the likelihood of its
failing. Preventative maintenance is performed while the equipment is still
working, so that it does not break down unexpectedly.
There are different types of maintenance. Among all, two of them are greatly
important:
Corrective Maintenance: Required to repair damage or replace failed
components. The example of corrective maintenances is inverter resets.

When PM should de done?
Scheduling and frequency of preventative PM is influenced by a number of
factors, such as equipment type, environmental conditions (snow, pollen,
humidity, dust, wildlife, etc.) of the site, and warranty terms.
The maintenance is scheduled based on a time or usage trigger.
A typical example of an asset with a time based preventative maintenance
schedule is an air-conditioner which is serviced every year, before summer.
A typical example of an asset with a usage based preventative maintenance
schedule is a motor-vehicle which might be scheduled for service every
10,000 km.

Preventive maintenance (PM) for solar systems

The photovoltaic systems are expensive technology and consequently, its
optimum performance without failure is so important.
In this lecture, we try to introduce some PM protocols of grid connected PV
systems.

The back cover of PV should be opened and checked at least each year.
The appearances of spots also should be checked.
