Project: Fall Trends FAS 345 Research Portion Research accessories or clothing trends for Fall 2013.
In your own words, describe and evaluate the trends plus prepare a digital presentation that reflects the content of your paper that you will present (no more than a page, typed double spaced).
Creative Brief Client: Slice of Life Magazine
Pro ject out l ine: Create a fall accessory fashion shoot for a Slice of Life magazine. The quarterly magazine targets Columbia's college-age female population. Your immediate clients, Slice of Life’s creative director and editor, want to highlight accessory trends for fall on “real or everyday” looking students as models for this article. The magazine has hired, you, the stylist to research trends and art direct the shoot and style the article. Once you present the projected accessory trends for fall, your creative team will write the headline and deck for the article based on the trend the student wishes to focus on for the project. The content will assist the stylist/art director with capturing the correct feeling for the shoot while highlighting the accessory trend.
This project will focus on editorial styling.
The student will be responsible for:
Research and presenting Fall 2013 trends
Research location
Design and prepare shoot paperwork and idea documents
Working in a creative team setting
Conduct creative meetings with your team to communicate details of the shoot
Manage and work with a photographer
Play the role of the s ty l i s t and ar t d i rec tor
Process shoots and select top images for review
Present images
Write captions for selected photos
Process selected images for printing
Stylist/Art director will provide final photos for a 16x10 intro feature spread as well as a vertical shot of the same look. The spread photo will need to be photographed so it can contain a headline and caption within the image. Stylist/art director will be graded on how well they; accomplished the list above, provided final quality images, worked with the team, styled and showcased the trends and met the needs of the clients/magazine.

Photo Styling and Art Direction – FAS 345 Storytelling Project REVISED 2/11/13 Concept development worksheet Goal:
1. Concept, write, style, art direct, shoot and design an image-based fashion story about Stephens College women focusing on “style” in some way. This is not a “profile” piece but more of a concept/themed story. You can use both model and product images to tell the story.
2. To creativity explore and push all aspects of design, styling and art direction to create and communicate a strong story.
Out l ine : Complete the concept worksheet. From those ideas refine the concept for a story you would like to tell. Plan a pitch for your idea. Then you will share your idea with the team for constructive criticism. Your pitch should be well prepared and take no longer than 5-10 minutes. Please keep in mind your final story (photo and copy) will be designed. Your design will be delivered in a print format. You will design your layouts based on the Stephens Life specs. Your copy and captions (at least 300 words) and photos need to be designed into 3 spreads to “slip” into the Stephens Life feature well. You need at least six images to illustrate your story. Images and design work need to be saved in CMYK at 300 dpi for printing. You can pitch two ideas if you wish.
Adjusted Schedule:
Concept development worksheet: 1/16 Formal intake: 2/13 at 2:00 Working Lab Class: 2/15 Idea pitch (all branded paperwork completed) and copy due (DUE DATE): 2/18 Working Lab Class – shoot day: 2/20 (copy edits returned to student via email by 3:50) Working Lab Class – shoot day: 2/22 Image review (DUE DATE): 2/25 Over-the shoulder of design work with images and copy (DUE DATE): 2/27 Presentations (DUE DATE): 3/1 at 2:00 CC, redesign and printed (DUE DATE): 3/1 at 3:50
