Introduction Phonetics For Fanatics is a series of pencil puzzles designed for students of English as a Second Language.

The text adapts familiar puzzle types (i.e. word searches, kriss-krosses, and cryptograms) to the International Phonetic Alphabet, so that the puzzles' emphasis is on the sounds of English, as spoken by modern British speakers.

The text has been designed with Pre-Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate students in mind, and the puzzle types have been arranged in difficulty from the most basic (word searches) to the most complex (kriss-krosses). In addition, the individual puzzle types have been arranged in order of difficulty so that, for example, the first phonetic anagram puzzle is the easiest, while the sixth and last is the hardest.

The puzzles can be used individually as supplements to lesson plans or collectively as an extended educational pastime for the solitary student of English as a Second Language. A student who completes the entire book will have become familiar with the phonetic spellings and pronunciations of approximately 1400 words.
