The main focus of our group is to empower students with sound knowledge, wisdom, experience and training both in the academic level of Engineering and Technology in the highly competitive global industrial market. Adequate care is taken to give every student an enjoyable, well-rounded and secure educational environment. Help and care is always at hand for the students.
Publishing half yearly departmental news letter indicates a continuous growth of not only the department but also the faculty and students.
I wish the best for all our students, and the members of the college who reiterate their aims at providing the best in academic and extra-curricular fields on excellent lines.

I must compliment the faculty, staff and students of ECE Department, Narula Institute of Technology for carrying the dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers of the Institute by involving themselves in many research, training and policy advocacy activities that have been reported in the Newsletter. The Institute has been relentlessly strengthening its activities and focusing on the thrust areas. In coming years , more testing challenges await the Institute, and I am sure the ECE Department, Narula Institute of Technology fraternity will not be found wanting in meeting them.

The idea of publishing the news letter keeps the surroundings aware of
what developments are going on in a department. It not only encourages
the faculties as well as students to explore their ideas but also provides
recognition to their contribution to the departmental activities.
I congratulate ECE department for the initiative of publishing this news
letter and wish that the content of the news letter increases not only
quantitatively but every time it is published.

To begin with, I take the privilege of thanking Respected
Chairman and Director of JIS group, Principal, NIT for giving a
desk in our first in house news letter of ECE department, which is
very heartening for us.
It is not feasible to embrace all the events of a year but an
attempt is done to circulate as much as achievable. I show
appreciation towards the involvement of each teaching and non
teaching staffs of ECE for the issue of this news letter.
I personally thank Prof. P. K. Banerjee, Prof. A. K. Mallick and

GENERAL
IETE STUDENT CHAPTER has inaugurated on 14th Feb , 2013.
An invited lecture on Mobility - Basic to Broadband was delivered by Mr. Chanchal
Chakraborty on 22nd February ,2013.
Prof.(Dr.)M.R.Kanjilal, Mr.Saradindu Panda,Mr.Surajit Bari,Mr. Pranab Hazra have visited
SIMOCO on 12th February,2013.
An Industrial tour was attended by PG students with faculty members Mr.Kaushik
Sarkar,Mr. Soumen Pal,Mrs. Sandhya Pattanayak,Mrs.Dola B.Gupta on 5th March,2013.
Technical Quiz contest for students was organized in the department on 2nd & 3rd
April,2013.
A one day seminar on “ADVANCE MICROPROCESSOR AND VLSI DEVICES” under TEQIP,
Phase-II was held at the Department on 11th April,2013. Lectures were delivered by Prof.
(Dr.) D.Roy Chowdhury, Electronic Science Department, Calcutta University and Prof.(Dr.) S.
Chattopadhyay,Electronic Science Department, Calcutta University.
Debate on Technical Topic for students was organized in the department on 17th
April,2013.
Workshop on Qualnet Software was organized in the department from 25th – 29th
June,2013.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
SWARNENDU SARKAR stood 1st in "Contrive" (Analog and Digital Circuit) at AVENIR 2013 NSEC.
NILANJAN CHATTERJEE stood 1st in "Mnemonics", at AVENIR 2013 NSEC

GLIMPSES OF DEPARTMENTAL EVENT
ISF Inauguration:
With full enthusiasm IETE Student Forum (ISF) has been inaugurated at ECE Department, Narula
Institute of Technology under the patronage of JIS group on 14th February at 12:30 p.m. It is
our gratification to inaugurate the ISF at the diamond jubilee year of IETE. The IETE Students'
Forum of NIT has been set up with 52 student members from ECE dept through the
involvement of faculty members of the department. The IETE Centre, Kolkata region provided
support and coordination in the establishment of the forum. Mr. S. C. Rudra, Chairman IETE
Kolkata Centre,Mr. A. Basu, IETE Senior Fellow were the chief guest.
Seminar:
The department was taken an initiative to organize one day industry based educational
program on “Mobility-Basic to Broadband” on 19th of February, 2013. The program was

Industrial Visit:
An Industrial tour was attended by PG students with faculty members Mr.Kaushik Sarkar,Mr.
Soumen Pal,Mrs. Sandhya Pattanayak,Mrs.Dola B.Gupta on 5th March,2013 in SIMOCO
TELECOMMUNICATION at sector–v, saltlake city, kolkata.In production house,the process of
PCB soldering had been shown through machines.Manual soldering of PCB Board had also been
shown. Some parameters like frequency, sensitivity, distortion, stability, fidelity, deviation of
both transmitted signal and received signal to check it out whether they were matching with its
standard reference value or not were measured by the visitors with their instruments.
Conceptronics(ISF):
The inaugural event of the IETE Students Forum or I.S.F was a Technical Writing Competition
titled under the name- “CONCEPTRONICS”,was organized by the IETE Students Forum of Narula
Institute of Technology on the date of 18th March, 2013 in the ECE department of this college.
The Evaluation of the Answer Scripts was being done by the eminent personality Dr. Moumita
Mukherjee , Scientist B,CMSDS, DRDO, Kolkata Centre.

Technical Quiz Contest Qtronics-2013:
A technical quiz contest “Qtronics-2013 Spring Session has been organized by ECE department
,Narula Institute of Technology on 2nd and 3rd April , 2013 at Seminar Hall , NIT . Event was
conducted in two phases:
On 2nd April : Quiz contest was held among intra college ECE students .

On 3rd April : : Quiz contest was held among inter college ECE students .
Quiz session was divided into three round (a) Technical round (b) Mathematics rounds (c)
Logical reasoning round . Participating colleges are : JIS college of Engineering , Guru Nanak
Institute of Technology , Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College , Greater Kolkata
College of Engineering & Management , Abacus Institute of engineering and Management and
Narula Institute of Technology. Winner Team was Narula Institute of Technology and Runner
up Team was JIS College of Engineering.
National Seminar: A one day seminar on “ADVANCE MICROPROCESSOR AND VLSI DEVICES” under TEQIP, Phase-II
was held at the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering of Narula Institute of
Technology, under the patronage of JIS group on 11th April,2013. The Seminar was attended by
220 participants from B.Tech(3rd year and 4th year )and M.Tech students, and also the faculty
and technical staff members of ECE,CSE ,IT and CA department.In the first session Prof. (Dr.)
D.Roy Chowdhury, Electronic Science Department, Calcutta University has delivered a

interactive lecture on “Basic Architecture to high level data transfer of Microprocessor”.In the
second session an informative lecture on “Evolution of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-
Effect-Transistors (MOSFETs) for Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits -Part I: Basics of MOS
capacitors and MOSFETs Part II: Short Channel Effects and Advanced MOSFETs” was discussed
by Prof.(Dr.) S. Chattopadhyay, Electronic Science Department, Calcutta University.
TECH-TORNADO - PPT Competition(ISF):
The “TECH TORNADO” PPT competition, a technical power point presentation competition, was held on 16th April, 2013, at the seminar hall of Narula Institute of Technology, conducted by the ISF(IETE Student Forum), under the guidance of the faculty members of the ECE department. There were two rounds-the preliminary and the final round. In the preliminary round the participating groups were asked to provide an overview about their respective PPTs in 3 minutes. Based on that round, selection of 12 best groups out of 20 groups was made for the

final round. The preliminary round selection was done by the faculty mentors of ISF. Prof. (Dr.) A. Das (Dean, Research and Development, NIT), Prof. D. K.Sen (HOD of English,NIT), Prof. A .Chakraborty (HOD of Electrical Engg.,NIT) enlightened the chair of judges for the final round.

Qualnet Workshop: The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Narula Institute of Technology with joint collaboration of JIS Group of Educational Initiatives and TEQIP Phase II under sub-component 1.1 had organized a National Workshop on ‘Designing of wireless communication networks using Qualnet’ from 26th June 2013 to 29th of June 2013 at Narula Institute of Technology. 65 participants from different colleges attended the workshop.Two experts from Eigen technologies Mr. Rajeshwar Singh and Mr. Achint Vatts had performed the practical classes.
