INACTIVITY PANDEMIC REPORT 8 IMPACT ON AMERICA EDITION
9 OBSERVATIONS – 11 RECOMMENDATIONS TO BEAT THIS PANDEMIC
Here are the ajor o ser atio s fro the I a ti it Pa de i Report 8 o A eri a: 1. Let s e real. We ha e ore of a Si k are S ste tha a true health are s ste . We ha e ple t of
e pills, edi al pro edures, health are pla s, et . to treat si k people . Pre e tio …or true health are…is u der supported.
2. The i a ti it Pa de i has a huge egati e i pa t o ph si al a d e tal health - obesity, high
blood pressure, life expectancy, education, and even military readiness. You will see maps of the
USA showing the sections of our country which are less physically active have more issues in the
illnesses mentioned above.
3. The inactivity trends, especially for kids, are getting worse. There are 9 million kids who are totally
inactive. 48 million kids are not active to CDC standards. The activity levels of kids active 3 times a
eek a d ti e a eek are de li i g …at i reasi g rates. 4. The trends for kids are very dangerous as many kids are not developing any physical activity skills or
confidence to be physically active today or later in life. These kids are time bombs for our healthcare
system. They will be a bigger drain on our healthcare system when they grow older.

Here are the ajor o ser atio s fro the I a ti it Pa de i Report for A eri a o ti ued: 5. The biggest inactivity issues are with 6-12 year old's, especially in families with low incomes.
The income divide is very evident for physical inactivity. Low income families is another
healthcare timebomb. Activity levels for high income Americans are more positive.
6. American kids are ranked 47th out of 50 developed countries in fitness & only 7% of US kids are
active to CDC standards.
7. Companies & organizations in the southeast must step up. Inactivity & many other health
issues are the highest in the country. Increased greater physical activity is an answer..
8. O e of the iggest reaso s for I a ti it Pa de i is the fa t that ph si al edu atio has ee take out of our s hools. The i porta e of PE a t e o erstated. Kids ho ha e PE
today are 2-3 times more likely to be active outside of school.
9. PE has a tremendous impact on adult physical activity as well. Adults who had PE in school are
u h ore a ti e toda … ith o l appro i atel % ei g i a ti e. If a adult had NO PE, it doubles to almost 40% being inactive today.
Rebuilding PE programs = More active kids and adults = Reduced healthcare costs.
NINE OBSERVATIONS – INACTIVITY PANDEMIC REPORT 8
IMPACT ON AMERICA EDITION
Here are ajor re o e datio s after stud i g the I a ti it Pa de i Report 8 for A eri a: 1. A eri a s health are risis a d i reasi g health are osts ill ONLY e sol ed ith a ig fo us o
PREVENTION. And, increased physical activity is the perfect prescription for prevention.
2. Every company must invest in pro-physical activity programs which will prevent and reduce healthcare
costs for their employees and America. $1 invested in physical activity will result in $3.20 in
health are osts. This is espe iall true for o pa ies ho produ e si k are produ ts. 3. This i est e t ust i lude edu ati g their e plo ees a d A eri a s that ph si al a ti it is the
ira le drug …pre e ti g ill ess a d that ph si al a ti it is like Mira le-Gro for the rai …helpi g kids to do better in school.
4. E er o e ust i est to re uild the roots of ph si al a ti it i A eri a, ph si al edu atio programs. This is the only sure way to beat this pandemic. 40,000 schools are in need & must be
rebuilt. Programs like PHIT America GO! Grants are cost efficient and effective. We get kids moving for
less than $10 per child. This is a great CSR initiative! Kids – Health – Education - Community!
5. Corporate short term, quarter to quarter, financial approaches must be balanced for what is right for
the long term of getting America more active, fit and healthy. Big, public owned or venture
capital owned companies must lead this change. I talk to too many executives who say,
I ha e to ake a u er. I ha e to ut e pe ses.
ELEVEN RECOMMENDATIONS TO BEAT THE INACTIVITY PANDEMIC

Here are ajor re o e datio s after stud i g the I a ti it Pa de i Report o ti ued: 6. Sport go er i g odies, leagues a d tea sports thi k ta ks must have real programs with real
investments to make sure we have better pathways for beginners and less frequent participants!
This will curb the growth of casual participants at the expense of core participants. Fun and
inclusion are more important than traveling teams and extreme time commitments and costs to
make super athletes. We have enough big meetings. It is time to invest.
7. Companies in the southeast USA have to aggressively fight inactivity which will help many other
health issues including high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular issues and obesity as well.
8. Federal and state governments must pass pro-activity legislation. The PHIT Act is a great first step.
The US Government has to stress the need for daily physical education in our schools and provide
funding to help schools rebuild these PE programs.
9. We must make sure every kid learns physical activity skills and the value of being physically active.
10. Pare ts ust regulate s ree ti e a d ake sure e er kid is getti g ph si al a ti it ti e for their kids…dail .
11. Sitting is the new smoking. Our country is beating the smoking crisis. We can do the same
to physical inactivity.
