PHILIPP LOOS GMBH
STEAM GENRATOR
Types of steam generator,which convert the electrical energy into heat energy by external electrical source. It has three pass steam generator which produce semi-saturated, saturated and super saturated steam. Loos steam generator produce high pressure and low pressure saturated steam and high pressure super saturated steam. It has load 27KW and produce steam 39 KG per Hour.
HISTORY
Philipp loos steam generator made one of the best company named as LOOS INTERNATIONAL, LOOS is one of the leading manufacture of steam generator and boiler plant since the company founded in 1865 and supplied them to 140 countries throughout the world. Loos made first electric steam generator in 1976.
In Mehran University, Almost 80s loos generator was comes in chemical department and unfortunately that time department lost the all operation manual and paper works of the steam generator. After this Sir Saeed Najme joined the department and this was the first assignment of sir to read and work and made into operation condition. After that no one worked on generator for long time that’s why almost 17 years is not in working condition.
PARTS OF LOOS STEAM GENRATOR
Following are the parts of Philipp Loos steam generator:
STORAGE TANK;
It is depth part of steam generator which is used to store the water from any source. Storage tank contain a water level indicator to locate the level of water inside the storage tank and also contain the thermometer which gives temperature of water which deliver to the feed tank. Volume of storage tank is 20 to 35 liter and volume is indicate by level indictor is 15 to 30 liter.
FEED TANK;
It is main part which locates inside the body of steam generator. Water which comes from the storage tank is to be store in feed tank. In feed tank, water is to be heated for making the steam it also contain the level which locate the level of water in feed tank here the capacity of water stored is 40 to 60 liter and volume indicated by the level is 20 to 40 liter.
HEATING RODS AND ELECTRICAL PANEL;
This part of steam generator which is responsible to make the steam in feed tank .It contain the Thirteen (13) rods in left side and on right side six (6) rods each rod contain seven small rods which convert the electrical energy into the heat energy. When power is on all rods left and right side of feed tank are warm and transfer heat through the conduction on water to make steam in generator.
VALVES
FLOAT VALAVE WITH BALL;
When the water in over flow inside the storage tank, to prevent this effect use float valve which is inside the storage tank. When the water is over flow, ball of float valve moves upward and over flow water is leave the storage tank with open valve which is behind the storage tank.
SAFETY VALVE;
A safety valve is mechanism for the automatic release of a substance from a steam generator. OR
It can be define as the valve which automatic open when the temperature and
Pressures are above the preset limit. Safety valve contain a spring when the pressure force act on the spring then it moves upward and release the pressure in form of steam.
OPEN AND CLOSED VALVE;
Open and Closed valve use to open and closed flow of water and steam, It also use to control the flow of steam and water inside and out side the feed and storage tank.
PUMP;
Pump is used to deliver the water from storage tank to feed tank. It has two mode each mode has different flow rate to deliver water to feed tank. Pump can handling by manually or by the automatic.
PRESSURE GAUGES;
Loos steam generator contain two pressure gauges one use to locate and other use to set or control the
pressure of steam which is made inside the generator, For locate, The bourdon tube gauge are used to measure the pressure inside the feed tank. Pressure measure by the gauge in form of Bar.
The second pressure gauge use to set required pressure or used to control the pressure inside the feed tank this is to done by manually. The pressure set or control in form of atmospheric pressure (atm).
WATER LEVEL REGULATOR;
Water level regulator is responsible to monitoring the level of water inside feed tank. It contain three light each shows the level of water at different level (The level which manufacture required) if the water above or below the required level buzzer start.
WATER LEVEL INDICATOR;
It is the important part of this steam generator because it shows the level of water inside the feed tank. it contain two valve which placed upper and lower of level scale of water level indicator which used to removed over flow water and also a steam which made inside the feed tank.
INSULATING MATERIAL;
Insulating material are used for minimize the loss of heat and prevent the electric shocks. Insulating material are WOOL (cotton) and ABARAK (aluminum foil).loos generator feed body are fully covered by cotton even no void space occur in feed tank and body of steam generator.
CHAPTER#2
WORKING OF LOOS GENRATOR
1. First to fill the storage tank from water by manually up to required level.
2. Active the power supply to main unit
3. Start the pump by the button which placed the left side of generator. Remember the pump has two mode that’s depends upon the user which they want if he want use mode I or II but different in flow rate to deliver
4. Look the water level which placed in front steam generator, either the water is your required level or not, if not to removed the water first open red valve and also opened black valve which place down the red valve and both are place on feed level indicator.
5. After removed over water now set pressure reading in pressure gauge.
6. Start the heater (heating rods) at mode 1. When you listen whistle then you rapidly press restart button. Now heater
is automatically started. If you go through at mode 2 and mode 3, just you repeat same procedure.
7. After few minutes, pressures are build in steam generator which shows in bourdon tube gauge.
8. After reached your require pressure limit then open upper red valve of level indicator and receive steam and send for further process.
SOME IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS
1. Water is use should be distilled.
2. When deliver water from storage to feed tank then turn off pump.
3. Always close all outlet valve when deliver water from storage tank to feed tank.
4. Before start heater first set required pressure in pressure gauge.
5. Always turn off loos steam generator after performing practical

MAINTENANCE OF LOOS STEAM GENRATOR
MAINTENANCE OF STORAGE TANK;
When the storage tank was opened that was full of corrosion and contaminate water almost storage was damaged, the corrosion was in the tank is metallic corrosion that was not easily removed. For removing the corrosion we have done hammering inside and outside the storage tank. When we done hammering corrosion were not removed, we were worried about it. At last we done paint coating inside and out side the storage tank for this way corrosion was stopped for few days.
MAINTENANCE OF FLOAT VALVE;
Float valve which is inside the storage tank was also damaged by the corrosion for removing we scratched the surface of the valve, Over all body of valve was also full of rust and that was also treated.
MAINTENANCE OF PUMP;
Pump was almost damaged when opened, Impellers body was jammed and impellers was full of corrosion, electric wiring was almost bust it means pump was not in working condition. For maintenance, pump was send to mechanic for making in working condition.
MAINTENANCE OF LEVEL INDICATOR;
Water level indicator is important part of feed tank for which to locate the water level in feed tank but the problem was in indicator that levels of water was not shown in the indicator due to dust particle, corrosion and contaminate water. For maintenance first we removed the water inside the indicator and done some how hammering and then washed with distilled water. For this way level indicator is show the level of water.
MAINTENANCE OF SAFETY VALVE;
Due to long time valve was not opened at right time even at high pressure valve was not opened because of dust and rust inside the valve, the spring was jammed. For maintenance
Simply we used WD-40 to over come the rust problem in safety valve.
MAINTENANCE OF PIPE LINES;
Loos stem generator was not in working for 17 years that’s why all the pipe lines which deliver the water storage to feed tank, inlet outlet lines in storage tank, out lines of steam was completely chocked. To over come this problem we have done hammering and also replaced few pipe lines.

SUGGESTION
If any one worked on this equipment in future he must do
Placed steam out let valve at top of steam generator.
Replaced the storage tank.
Replaced the pressure gauges.
Make feasible for main power supply because it is trip when we run on at mode 2 and mode 3.
Always keep in working condition.
