Peter Hoover (1844-1933), son of Jacob and Elisabeth (Brick) Hoover, married Maria Wideman (1852-1924), daughter of John and Elisabeth (Hoover) Wideman. Peter grew up on the original David Hoover farm along the Lake, in Rainham Township. Maria came from Almira in the Markham settlement. When Peter and Maria Hoover, at the time of their retirement, settled in Waterloo County, they bought a small place at Hawkesville (left). The bay window at the front has been covered completely by the current owners. Maria remained a member of the Rainham congregation until she went to sleep, but she was buried east of Wallenstein. Franklin Housser (1859-1933), born in Vineland, first married Catherine Moyer, then Sarah Rittenhouse, and finally Anna (Nancy), daughter Bishop Abraham Martin, widow of Noah Bearinger. Franklin served for many years as a deacon, at South Cayuga. Then, when the Hoovers moved to Waterloo County, he followed. Noah Bearinger was the father of Louisa Bearinger Bauman, daughter of a Toews immigrant girl, who, after the birth of her child, returned to Russia.

Uncle Menno and Aunt Amelia Sauder's place at Balsam Grove. Both awaiting the Lord at West Woolwich (Elmira).

Henry Wieler, our father's “first cousin”,was taken in as a nine-year-old orphaned child, by Menno and Amelia Hoover in 1924. He came from the Ebenfeld estate of theMolotschna Mennonite Colony, travelling with other refugees on the SS Malita from Antwerp to Quebec. Waiting atWest Montrose.

Orthodox Mennonite – Wellesley Township

Menno Hoover (1889-1983) son of Peter and Maria (Wideman) Hoover, married Leah Martin (1895-1974) daughter of Solomon and Veronica (Weber) Martin. After leaving his home farm in Rainham Township, Menno and Leah bought the

original Brooks-Edmonds farm near Hawkesville. The farm was divided and they later lived on this part of it, upper right, and yet later in their retirement house at the same place.
