Güdel Group AG

The Güdel Group is a manufacturer of high-precision machine components and provider of sophi-sticated automation solutions. Its spectrum of products ranges from linear guideways, racks, pinions and drives right through to linear axes and gantry robots. Güdel assembles its products into systems with a high degree of control intelligence and complete plant installations, which can be used in the automotive, tire, metal, rail, intra-logistics, pharmaceutical, renewable energy, wood, and aerospace industries. The Güdel Group has a workforce of approximately 1,200 employees worldwide in over 30 locations. The Güdel Group has its headquarters in Switzerland.

Short description

With regard to the automation of production plants, Güdel has been dedi-cated to railway technology for decades. All over the world Güdel produces and implements various technologies relating to wheels and axles. The gripper concept is designed to remove individual wheels from the stack and precisely position them in the vertical lathe. As the wheels need to be processed on both sides, the gripper rotates the wheel by 180 degrees following the fist processing step and then reloads the machine. As soon as processing is complete, the grip-per places the wheel on the stack for finished wheels directly in front of the machine. While the machine processes one wheel, the second lathe is loaded and unloaded. Simultaneously loading two lathes makes the machining process

more efficient. With regard to axle production, the gripper picks up each raw axle indi-vidually and positions it in the buffer. The axle is measured precisely using a laser in order to position the axle in the buffer with the exact defined spacing. While one axle is being processed, the gripper positions the next axle in the second buffer. The processed axles are picked up by the gripper and transpor-ted to the testing station. From here it is forwarded to the marking an labeling station. No additional depositing posi-tions are required. This ensures optimal and maximum plant utilisation.
