It must be springtime, longer days, warmer weather and ideal conditions for a game of cricket. Are there any Kevin Petersons or Freddie Flintoffs in the making or even someone who would just like a bit of fun?

As last year's cricket team was very popular, this year the school has decided to have an under thirteens team as well. Therefore, the school is looking for any boy under the age of thirteen who may be interested in playing cricket to join the school team.

If you are interested in getting involved, speak to Mr Smith as soon as you can. Get your whites out and start practising as it’s not long to the start of the season and watch out for more information regarding where and when.

New Cricket Team launched

Last Monday, a successful city banker visited Chiswick School and shared some tricks of the trade with pupils in Miss Herington’s Year 10 Business Studies class.

Adam Proctor, Director, Private Banking UK at Citi, taught the Year 10 class about all the career options banking has to offer, and even gave them the chance to (fictionally) invest wealthy individuals’ money!

The Year 10 group were set the task of suggesting the financial advice millionaire celebrities may need, after being informed of the roles a banker like himself has to adopt.

The pupils were given case studies outlining the lifestyles of the likes of Adele, David Beckham and Simon Cowell and were asked to consider how they may wish to invest their wealth. The groups came up with a host of suggestions including private aircraft purchasing, property buying, investment in art and pensions. They managed to present themselves with confidence, and really worked well

together in their teams!

Adam then held a Q&A session and told the class a little more about what it’s like to work for a global firm like Citi. “They asked really professional questions, and managed to impress Adam with their mature role; I’m so proud that they really took on the challenge”- Miss Herington praised.

When Adam was asked why he wanted to visit Chiswick, he responded with “I think it’s great to help children towards a better future. I also wanted to make my industry more appealing to the next generation. There are a lot of misconceptions about it so I wanted to try and dispel some of them.”By MaryaM Khalifa

Exam Results day on March 8th greeted by tears, excitement and relief for many. After a gruelling exam period in January, all GCSE and AS/2 students crowded into the hall to recieve their results. Once the envelopes were opened, some of the best results were revealed.

Year 10 who due to a change in specification, sat their Science and Languages exams early this year. One of the top Year 10 achievers was Laura Reid who achieved an outstanding 5 A* in all five units.Grace Lee also achieved 5 A* and 100% in Unit 1 for Chemistry Tigran Sogomonian achieved 3 A* in all 3 Sciences. Twin sisters Laura and Giulia Piscitelli achieved 2 A* in their French Speaking and Listening, gaining 100% in both units. Ajmal Mirzad gained 1 A* in Unit 1 of his Physics along with Benedict Segal who gained 2 A* and an A in French.

Amazing Results from January Exam Season

ACHiEVER

There are many talented actors at our school and Adam Wadsworth, Year 12, is one of them. He has already begun his professional career as the genie in one of CITV’s latest programmes ‘My Phone Genie’.

He first heard of the part last year through his agent and, after only a couple of auditions, got the role. The filming took place from June through to Christmas and Adam was out of school for a few months after the summer holidays to finish it. Being out of school, he had to juggle his acting with work from his tutor to make sure he didn’t fall behind. Two series have been filmed in total, each lasting thirteen episodes.

But this isn’t the first acting Adam has done. He has been in every school play apart from this year’s since he started at Chiswick.

It comes as no surprise then that he wants to become a full-time actor when he leaves school and ‘My Phone Genie’ is his first step. Adam said his time filming was ‘the toughest and best thing I’ve ever done’.

Apologies for last week’s Year 10 Olympic Park business trip article, it appears that it was the Year 11 Business Studies group who visited the park

and not Year 10. Our sincerest apologies.

Congratulations to all Year 10 achievers.

There were encouraging results in Year 13 to. With many pupils achieving some excellent grades. Alex Elia moved up to an A from an E in Sociology and Ivana Ujkic brilliantly transformed an E into a B in History. Nick Raikes, Sophie Farmery and Abi Le Fevre all achieved A grade C in Psychology, too. May the success continue.

Mr. Ryan received a phone call on Monday morning informing him that OFSTED would be inspecting the school on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The school have been ex-pecting a visit as it was last inspected over three years ago.

As well as observing around 50 les-sons, the five inspectors have looked at standards of behaviour in the cor-ridors and playgrounds, interviewed students from across the school, and met with senior staff and governors.

Everyone at the school is hoping for a ‘good’ judgement. Parents News will be able to publish the results after Easter and the full report will then become available to parents, students and staff.

OFSTED Have landed

Last Thursday and Friday Year 10 and 11 GCSE Music students recording their solo and ensemble performances which amount to 30% of their final grade. With a tight schedule and over 50 students to perform 2 or more pieces so much could go wrong but miraculously the two days ran smoothly.

Ms. Raven said ‘Mr Hickson and I are so proud of the standard of performance and how hard all the students worked.’

Alfie Howell said ‘it was quite stressful organising everything but the teachers helped so much and I’m confident that it went well’.

The students will find our their official grades soon. Until then a nervous wait lies ahead but we’re sure they all performed brilliantly and will get the grades they deserve.
