Leadership Honour Roll 2016

Improving Lives Locally

Thank you“People love to give, but more than that, people love making a difference. With United Way, I appreciate the opportunity to know that the money I give is put strategically where it will help most.”

LEADERS IMPROVE LIVES LOCALLYLeadership donors are committed to improving lives locally in Central Alberta, and their example inspires others to do the same. Leaders – individually or as a family – contribute $1,200 or more per year to the United Way community fundraising campaign.

If you are a Leadership donor, thank you for leading the way!

If you are not currently a Leadership donor, we invite you to become part of this elite group of donors. Help us create more and lasting impact in Central Alberta. Let’s make sure kids can realize their full potential, no one is trapped by poverty, and we are building strong and healthy communities.

“We are proud to be acknowledged as Leaders in our community. Supporting United Way allows us to help many individuals and to support excellent projects throughout Central Alberta.”

Audrey & Colleen Graham

LEADERS CREATE MORE IMPACTIn 2016, 334 Leadership donors (12% of individual donors) contributed $740,660 to last year’s campaign.

The contribution of this elite group of supporters represents 63% of donations received from individuals, and 34% of total funds raised during campaign!

Leadership Matching ChallengeFor a fifth year United Way offered the Leadership Matching Challenge initiative in order to multiply the impact of Leader donations. All new or increased Leadership gifts are eligible to be matched through the Challenge.

$44,400 Leadership dollars (new or increased) were matched in 2016.

Benefits of Leadership GivingLeadership donors enjoy increased visibility and recognition among United Way supporters. When you become a Leader, United Way will:

• Recognize you in the Leadership Honour Roll and on our website (unless you choose to remain anonymous),

• Honour your workplace if there are 3 or more Leaders, and ensure colleagues are aware of Leaders,

• Send you personal invitations to special community or Leadership events,

• Thank you personally for your gift.

“I prefer to donate to charities that invest back locally into my community. United Way is the best way to do that because my money goes to support a network of programs that touches many lives.”

Tom Terrill

Leading Change in the WorkplaceIt takes everyone working together to build a strong community.

Gift of SecuritiesThe benefits of donating a gift of securities to United Way are twofold. First, you will receive a tax receipt for the value of the donation. Second, your donation is exempt from the capital gains tax that typically applies to the sale of a security.

Donating securities to United Way is fast and easy, and both you and your community benefit!

The Loaned Representative ProgramOrganizations can “lend” United Way a staff member, or sponsor the hiring of a seasonal staff person to help during our busy campaign season (September to January).

Other Ways to Lead

Thank you to MEGlobal for once again leading the 2016 Loaned Representative Program.

As a result of their commitment, we had the extra resources we needed during campaign with no additional cost to donors.

CREATING A LEGACY OF POSSIBILITIESThe money raised for the following two funds is outside of reported annual campaign donations. They are special funds to be invested towards a specific goal or to create a lasting legacy in the community.

Donor Directed Funds: Delta Rempel Capital FundThe Delta Rempel Capital Fund will be directed to support the development of a United Way Central Alberta owned building, including a community hub resource facility.

Community Impact Legacy FundPlanning a Legacy Gift is another way that you and your family can help support the future of your community through United Way.

These funds are invested to generate income, a portion of which is used each year to support collective impact projects that are innovative, unique and address the root causes of social conditions in one of United Way’s three priority areas – Education, Income and Wellness.

By contributing to the Community Impact Legacy Fund, you will be able to support positive change in Central Alberta for many years to come. As the fund grows, so will the impact of your legacy gift.
