Pediatric Transport and Prehospital Skills Course Monday, September 23, 2013 Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Wilmington, DE This is an intensive one day course designed for Critical Care Transport nurses, respiratory therapists and paramedics as well as Prehospital paramedics who would like more experience in managing pediatric scenarios. We will provide hands on training in critical pediatric assessment and procedure skills. This will include pediatric specific airway management techniques, vascular access, immobilization and resuscitation procedures. Using high fidelity simulation, this course will also focus on the crisis resource management skills needed to successfully manage a critically ill pediatric patient. Learning Objectives Discuss the initial and ongoing assessment of a pediatric patient including system specific interventions Identify indicators of illness and injury in the pediatric patient Discuss priorities of care for the pediatric patient List unique features of the pediatric airway Describe adjuncts that may be used when securing a pediatric airway Describe techniques to obtain vascular access in a pediatric patient Describe techniques to properly immobilize a pediatric patient List the appropriate medications used in pediatric resuscitation Discuss the newest recommendations for advanced life support in pediatric patients Develop an approach to common and unusual pediatric illnesses encountered during transport Work effectively as a member and leader of a healthcare team Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals, patients, and families General Information Site: The program will be held in the third floor Lecture Hall of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, located at 1600 Rockland Road in Wilmington, DE. Accreditation: This activity has been submitted to the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Department of Nursing, the Delaware Office of Emergency Medical Services, and the Pennsylvania Office of Emergency Medical Services for approval to award 9.0 contact hours. Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Delaware Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Disclosure: As a provider approved by the Delaware Nurses Association, Nemours must ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in its educational activities. All faculty participating in the development of continuing education content are required to disclose to Nemours their relevant financial relationships. An individual has a relevant financial relationship if he/she has a financial relationship in any amount occurring in the last 12 months with a commercial interest whose products or services are discussed in the continuing education activity content over which the individual has control. Nemours has policies in place to resolve potential financial conflicts of interest. Relevant financial relationships will be disclosed to the activity audience. Course Registration

Registration: This course is for Critical Care Transport nurses, respiratory therapists and paramedics as well as Prehospital paramedics. Because of the in-depth, hands-on nature of the program, registration will be limited. Early registration is advised. Advance registration is required and should be received by September 1, 2013. Registrations received by this date will be confirmed in writing.

Fees: The conference registration fee is $130. This fee includes all course materials, refreshments, and meals as noted on the schedule.

To register with a credit card: If you are paying by MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover Card, please complete the registration form found online at www.PedsUniversity.org.

Cancellation Policy: A full refund will be given for written cancellations received before September 1, 2013. No refunds will be given after that date. The hospital is not responsible for any cancellations or change fees assessed by airlines, travel agencies or hotels.
