Degree Students, We are pleased that you are considering NOVA EMS in order to achieve your degree. Having a discipline specific degree is rapidly becoming the desired standard of EMS agencies, both locally and across the nation. In choosing NOVA (one of the largest community colleges in the country) you would not only be procuring a regionally accredited (the gold standard in academia) degree, but also become an alumni of NOVA EMS one of the first accredited paramedic programs in the country. The below information is only relevant for those beginning their journey this summer 2019, as our program (like all other Va. Community College EMS programs) will be starting an entirely new EMS core curriculum starting this fall. If you choose to enroll and begin this summer this curriculum revamp will not be relevant, as you will have been placed in the current catalog year and as such you will still have the current EMS courses available for four additional semesters, as we conduct our teach-out process. NOVA EMS will be offering both EMS 205 (Advanced Patient Assessment), as well as EMS 201- (Professional Development) this summer term. These classes will be delivered in a hybrid format. Although we will not be offering EMS 209 (Pharmacology), this summer, the alternative class HLT 250 (General Pharmacology) will be available. I have outlined each of the necessary steps below. I have also included an overview of the required coursework in addition to the current credit for prior learning guide for paramedics. Prospective Paramedic to EMS A.A.S. Degree Students,

We are pleased that you are considering NOVA EMS in order to achieve your degree. Having a discipline specific

degree is rapidly becoming the desired standard of EMS agencies, both locally and across the nation.

In choosing NOVA (one of the largest community colleges in the country) you would not only be procuring a

regionally accredited (the gold standard in academia) degree, but also become an alumni of NOVA EMS one of the

first accredited paramedic programs in the country.

The below information is only relevant for those beginning their journey this summer 2019, as our program (like all

other Va. Community College EMS programs) will be starting an entirely new EMS core curriculum starting this fall.

If you choose to enroll and begin this summer this curriculum revamp will not be relevant, as you will have been

placed in the current catalog year and as such you will still have the current EMS courses available for four

additional semesters, as we conduct our teach-out process.

NOVA EMS will be offering both EMS 205 (Advanced Patient Assessment), as well as EMS 201- (Professional

Development) this summer term. These classes will be delivered in a hybrid format.

Although we will not be offering EMS 209 (Pharmacology), this summer, the alternative class HLT 250

(General Pharmacology) will be available.

I have outlined each of the necessary steps below. I have also included an overview of the required coursework in

addition to the current credit for prior learning guide for paramedics.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at [email protected] or our Administrative Specialist Patrick

Hooe at [email protected] or call 703-822-6639.

Note that summer 2019 enrollment begins March 25th. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kindest regards,

Gary Sargent

EMS program's informational power point presentation. This presentation will contain a code that you will

need for step three.

Step Three

Go to the below link and apply to be program placed into the EMS program. As noted above you will need

the code from our program's informational power point presentation in-order to accomplish this.

https://www.nvcc.edu/medical/divisions/allied/apply.html

Step Four

Send our Administrative specialist scanned colored copies of your current EMT and Paramedic

certifications (Virginia and National Registry). He will then have you sign a form that is used for the credit

procurement process.

Please note that your credit for prior learning credit will NOT be issued and will not show on your

transcript until after you have started your first EMS course (here at NOVA) and that course's official

census date has passed. You may also need to schedule and take the college's English and MTH

placement test. Our Administrative specialist will provide further details regarding this process.
