Hertfordshire Developing Well• The schools were allocated an Athlete Mentor who delivered two or three
workshops to a group of young people.
• The schools selected the workshops from the following:
• Red Head / Blue Head: Coping strategies to find calm and deal with stressful
situations.
• Active Bodies: Movement based activities and sports that could be used at
home with family members.
• Happy Me: Understanding healthy and toxic friendship choices and achieving
life balance and ambitions.
• Team Family: Creating positive environments at home - work, eat, play and rest.
• New Shoes: Understanding others, improving communication skills, and dealing
with new situations and peer pressure.
• The Athlete Mentor also delivered an inspirational talk to whole school or year
groups. Athletes shared their life stories detailing how their sporting experiences
helped them to build resilience, handle failure and find confidence to succeed.
More importantly how these skills helped them in the classroom
and in life.
Teacher Feedback
Evidence: Lead teacher feedback survey, based on 13 responses. Data should be treated with caution due to small number of responses.
The majority of teachers that responded to the feedback survey believed that the Athlete
Mentors helped the young people to develop physically, mentally and socially.

Changing Minds: Active Bodies – Active Minds
DAILY MILE 2018 UPDATE• Getting pupils running for 15 minutes every single day
• Over 50 schools in Hertfordshire are now participating
• That means approximately 13,000 children!
• Schools are telling us it’s making a big difference to children’s fitness as well as their concentration in class
• As part of Hertfordshire’s Year of Physical Activity, there is a chance in April for schools to win £1,000 by inviting older adults to their Daily Mile - See your delegate packs for a sample leaflet and letter with more details

The Active Lives survey
For more information or to find out if your school has been selected this term, please contact Shelley Woods at [email protected]
Active Lives replaces the Active People survey and is the largest and most robust measure of the nation’s sport and physical activity levels
The survey looks at a number of areas including wellbeing, involvement in volunteering, swimming ability and active travel
The Herts Sports Partnership is tasked with administrating the survey to a select cohort of schools each term
Response rate:
20% of schools in the Autumn term
Who:
Up to three classes per school plus a teacher, and parents of Years 1 or 2
Benefits:
Understanding the activity levels of pupils, can be used to demonstrate use of the PE and Sport Premium - schools also receive a £100 ‘thankyou’ upon completion
How:
The survey is electronic and should be completed by all children in the allocated classes during the school day
