May be used in conjunction with cathodicProtect ion. Application by airless spray equipment(plural component acceptable but notrequired.)Meets most VOC ( Volatile Organic Content )regulations.

Color Gray, Buff , other colors on application in batchquantities.

    Finish Low Gloss

    Primers Self-priming

TopcoatsNormally not required. Polyurethanes for nonimmersion service when required. Brush blast-ing or special cleaning procedures may berequired.

    Dry FilmThickness

    1 coat system: 8-25 mils ( 203-635 microns)Depending on service requirement.

    Solids Content By Volume: 9 5% ± 2%

    TheoreticalCoverage Rate

    4.75 m 2 / l @ 2 00 microns , 190 ft 2/gal @ 8 mils Allow for loss in mixing and application

VOC Values As supplied: 0.1 lbs./gal (12 g/l)These are nominal values and may varyslightly with color.

    Dry Temp.Resistance

    Continuous:Non-Continuous: 250 ° F (121 ° C)Discoloration and loss of gloss is observedabove

    Wet Temp.Resistance

Immersion temperature resistance dependsupon exposure. Consult Carboline TechnicalService for specific information.

Limitations Epoxies lose gloss, discolor and eventuallychalk in sunlight exposure.

Substrates & Surface PreparationGeneral Surfaces must be clean and dry. Employ adequate

methods to remove dirt, dust, oil and all othercontaminants that could interfere with adhesion ofthe coating.

    Steel Immersion: SSPC-SP5 – 3- 4 milsNon-Immersion: SP10 – 2-3 mils

Concrete Immersion and Non-Immersion:Concrete must be cured 28 days at 75 ° F (24 ° C)and 50% relative humidity or equivalent. Preparesurfaces in accordance with ASTM D4258 SurfaceCleaning of Concrete and ASTM D4259 AbradingConcrete. Voids in concrete may require surfacing.

    Application EquipmentSpray Application(General)

Recommended for application by single or pluralcomponent airless spray. This is high solids coating andmay require adjustments in spray techniques. Wet filmthickness is easily and quickly achieved. The followingspray equipment has been found suitable and isavailable from manufactures such as Binks, DeVilbissand Graco.

This product simply requires the substrate temperature to be above the dew point.Condensation due to substrate temperatures below the dew point can cause flashrusting on prepared steel and interfere with proper adhesion to the substrate.Special application techniques may be required above or below normal applicationconditions. To reduce out gassing when applying to concrete substrates, do notapply in direct sunlight or when surface temperatures are increasing. Best resultsare obtained when ambient and surface temperatures are decreasing or constant.

Clean up & SafetyCleanup Use #2 Thinner or Acetone. In case of spillage, absorb

and dispose of in accordance with local applicableregulations.

Safety Read and follow all caution statements on this productdata sheet and on the MSDS for this product. Employnormal workmanlike safety precautions. Hypersensitivepersons should wear protective clothing, gloves and useprotective cream on face, hands and all exposed areas.

Ventilation Vapors and/or spray mist may cause explosion. Whenused as a tank lining or in enclosed areas, thorough air

circulation must be used during and after applicationuntil the coating is cured. The ventilation system shouldbe capable of preventing the solvent vaporconcentration from reaching the lower explosion limit forthe solvents used. In addition to ensuring properventilation, appropriate respirators must be used by allapplication personnel.

Not recommended. Thin only if necessary up to 10% ofThinner 21 and for hot and windy conditions, use Thinner33 up to 10%.

Use of thinners other than those supplied orrecommended by Carboline may adversely a ffectproduct performance and void product warranty, whether expressed or implied.

These times are based on a 10 mil s (250 micron) dry film thickness. Higher filmthickness, insufficient ventilation or cooler temperatures will require longer curetimes. Condensation on the surface or humidity above 25% during application andcuring will result in a surface haze or blush. Any haze or blush be removedby water washing before recoating. During high humidity conditions, it isrecommended that the application be done while temperatures are increasing. Ifthe maximum recoat times is exceeded, the surface must be washed withdetergent and water, then abraded by sweep blasting prior to the application ofadditional coats. For force curing, contact Carboline Technical Service forspecific requirements. *Note: Final cure temperatures below 60 ° F (16 ° C) arenot recommended for tank linings.
